A Local's Guide To Scottsdale With Live Life Well Blogger

For this part of the Word On The Street travel series we are heading to the USA with Allison who will guide us through Arizona’s Scottsdale. The city has more spas per capita than any other city in the entire United States. Definitely sounds like a city that should be on a the list for anyone that loves a good pampering session!

It’s also within the sunshine state with reliable sunny weather for most of the year as well as being home to one of the world’s most famous sights; the Grand Canyon of course. In addition to the Grand Canyon, you will also find the Sonaro Dessert, which borders both US and Mexico with its distinguishable Saguaro cactus-filled surroundings and rugged formations of Red Rock State Park.

Below Allison takes us on a mini-tour of Scottsdale and for more on Scottsdale, check out this Scottsdale day guide by 52 Perfect Days.

Scottsdale is like no other place because of its world-class golf courses, fabulous spas, and topnotch shopping and also still very possible to do Scottsdale on a budget. Located about a 40-minute drive from Phoenix, this well-kept desert town has some breathtaking mountain views.

The best views in Scottsdale can be found atop Table Mesa. Located deep in the desert and reachable by ATV or hummer, Table Mesa offers breathtaking views of Arizona’s beautiful natural landscape.

I would highly recommend a desert tour with Arizona Tours if you’re looking to explore the desert and learn about Arizona’s rich history. The open-air hummer tour is an absolute blast. Be sure to pack your sunscreen! Scottsdale temperatures can surpass 100 degrees in the summer and there is little to no shade in the desert.

For a local escape in Scottsdale, look no further than the spa at the Phoenician Hotel. Offering an array of services and packages, the spa and its amenities make for a relaxing day. During my visit, I wasted away the afternoon having a scrub, a shea butter treatment, and an 80-minute holistic massage. Be sure to bring your swimsuit because spa guests get a day pass to the resort’s fabulous pools as well.

If you’re looking for a night out on the town in Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Quarter is the place to be. With an array of shops, bars, and restaurants, this bustling outdoor promenade is a great place to grab a drink after a day in the dessert or an afternoon at the spa. My favorite restaurant, Eddie V’s, has delicious cocktails and delectable seafood. Try the yellowtail sashimi and the shrimp and lobster bisque if you’re a seafood lover like I am.

I never want my love for traveling abroad to cause me to overlook the beauty right here in America. Arizona is a beautiful state. If leisure is what you’re after, Scottsdale is a great city to visit.

Word On The Street | A Local’s Guide To Sydney With The Trusted Traveller

October 28, 2015 by admin 2 Comments

This is the last in the Word On The Street travel series I have been doing with bloggers this month. I hope you have enjoyed coverage of Cusco in Peru, Scottsdale in Arizona, USA and Perth in Australia. The last installment is also by way of Australia. One other reason why I am super excited to share this city guide with you is because I have FINALLY booked my ticket to Australia. I am heading down under come March next year. I will be sharing more details about that soon. Without further ado, I will let Jen Seligmann aka The Trusted Traveller guide us on things to do and see in Sydney and around this beautiful and popular Australia city.

Sydney is like no other place because…

It’s one of the most multicultural cities in the world. You can get food from just about every cuisine in the world.

Where are the best beaches in town?
Australia is well known for its beautiful beaches and Sydney has some of the country’s best. Tourist favourite is Bondi or Manly but for something a little less crowded head to the southern suburbs to visit the beaches of Cronulla or the Royal National Park. What area of town is best for a cocktail or a nice night out?
Sydney is full of great bars and pubs in all shapes and sizes. To enjoy a drink with one of the best views in the world head to the Rocks or Circular Quay and have a drink under the Sydney Opera House with a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Where can the best view be found at?
Sydney has a few really great vantage points. The Sydney Tower Eye is the tallest tower in the CBD and offers 360 degree views; climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge for city and harbour views unlike anywhere else in the world; or head out to Watsons Bay for a view looking back across the harbour.

Best local escapes

Sydney is perfectly positioned to allow you to easily escape the busy city and head to the mountains or the beaches. Head north or south and you’ll find a spectacular coastline that’s lined with relaxed beach towns; or out to the Blue Mountains for hiking and quaint mountain villages.

What activities would you highly recommend in the city
The first thing any visitor to Sydney should do is get out on the harbour whether it be on a ferry, a cruise or on the hop on hop off boat that makes stops at some of the harbours best spots. If being on the water is not your thing then a big walk along the harbours edge and through the Historic Rocks area is a must.

Give me one secret only a local would know
I personally think Sydney’s best kept secret is the Royal National Park. Located in the southern suburbs of the city, the park is the second oldest national park in the world after Yellowstone in the US and is full of spectacular beaches, miles and miles of bushwalking trails and a multitude of native Australian animals and plant life.

Easiest way to get around town
Sydney has an extensive train, bus and ferry network that reaches just about every corner of the city. Get yourself an Opal card on arrival and it is as simple as loading it with funds and tapping your card to ride.

Make sure you pack…
Your swimmers so you don’t miss out on our beautiful beaches.

This was the last post in the travel Word on the Street Series, I am excited to share the next blogger collaborations with bloggers like Simply Cyn and Samatha over at Cocobutter. It will all be around what the four bloggers taking part do to get ready for a vacation. So get ready for tips on how to pack and as well as the ladies sharing the beauty secrets.

Word On The Street – Quick Guide To Things To Do In Cusco Peru

October 14, 2015 by admin

The next installment in the Word On The Street travel series continues with tips on things to do in cusco Peru. A city in the Peruvian Andes.  Peru is the home to a portion of the Amazon rain forest and the famous landmark of Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley of Peru in the Incan city, set high in the Andes mountains.

Cusco was once the capital of the Inca empire. It’s also well known for its archaeological remains and the Spanish colonial architecture. Heather Cole, blogger of The Conversant Traveller takes us on a guided of Cusco for the second installment of the four-part travel series. You can search for the rest of the posts on social media via #WordOnTheStreetWithBee as well as the first post a guided tour of Perth In Australia.

Quick Guide To Peru – Things To Do In Cusco Peru

Below is a quick guide to places perfect and fit on any Cusco itinerary and for additional inspiration, if you are visiting Lima check out this Lima itinerary.

What area of town is best for a cocktail( things to do in Cusco at night)…

There are plenty of amazing things to do in Peru. We love Chez Maggy just off the Plaza de Armas (main square) for it’s cosy and rustic atmosphere, superb pizza (when you’re fed up of eating llama or guinea pig!) and an incredibly friendly owner who plied us with free pisco sours on our honeymoon. There are often local musicians who pop in to serenade the diners, and yes, the panpipe music is cheesy, but you are in Peru so it’s allowed!

Where can the best view be found in Cusco…

Just out of town is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sacsayhuaman (try and say ‘sexy woman’ when drunk and you’ll be halfway to pronouncing it!). This walled citadel dates back to the Inca civilisation (and even a bit before!) and has superb views of Cusco and the surrounding Andes. Also a great spot for that all important tourist photo with the obligatory llama.

What activities would you highly recommend in the in Cusco…

Spend the first day acclimatising to the altitude and take it easy by just strolling the streets, visiting the cathedral (one of the most beautiful in all of the Americas!), the Koricancha (Sun Temple) and numerous museums and churches if you have the energy! For more on activities surrounding this beautiful city check out this list of the best tours in Cusco.

Best local escapes in Cusco…

Then get out of town and explore the outlying archaeological sites of Qenko, Pucapucara and Tambomachay, before visiting the traditional Indian market near Pisac Ruins to buy one of those iconic woollen hats or a soft alpaca scarf.

For the more adventurous a day trip from Cusco can take you into the Sacred Valley to visit the Salineras de Maras Salt Mines, and the amazing concentric terraces at Moray, once ingeniously used by the Incas for a complex cultivation system.

Give me one secret only a local would know…

The nearby small district of Ccorca is the only remaining Quechua community in the Cusco region, and the way of life here is still traditional, with many hamlets consisting of simple adobe mud brick buildings and no electricity.

Ask your guide to stop here on the way to Moray and visit a local house…we spent an afternoon with this delightful 90 year old blind lady who showed us around her single room home. There were several squeaking guinea pigs scurrying around the mud floors, one of which was destined for dinner that evening.

Easiest ways to get around Cusco…

Cusco is a fairly small city, at least the parts you’d want to visit as a tourist, so it is best to stay on foot. Much of it is steep and cobbled, so leave the heels at home and instead opt for something comfy. To get out of town take a tourist bus or collectivo (like a grand taxi), or if you’re heading towards Machu Picchu (which of course you are!) there is no better way than by the Vistadome train.

What To Pack For Cusco Make sure you pack…

Warm clothing! Andean nights can be very cold, those alpaca blankets on the beds are there for a reason! Pack some Thermals to keep you warm.

Word On The Street | In Perth With A Hole In My Shoe

October 7, 2015 by admin 14 Comments

As part of the Word On The Street travel series, I have asked four bloggers to guide us through four cities. This is the first installment with Lyn volunteering as local guide to Perth in Australia

Perth is like no other place because of its location. We are one of the most isolated capital cities in the world. But don’t think because we are isolated there is nothing to do here. Quite the opposite. Known for our sunny, Mediterranean climate, Perth has the best beaches and one of the largest inner city parks in the world. There are plenty of things to do in Perth, see this linked post for me tips.

Where are the best beaches in town. We have 19 beaches in Perth and they all have their own reasons for making them great. Cottesloe, City Beach, Scarborough, Sorrento, Trigg, Rockingham are just a few. For more stunning beaches check out Rottnest Island, which is an easy day trip from Perth.

What area of town is best for a cocktail or a nice night out…Again there are many from Crown Casino, Northbridge or Leederville, there is no shortage of great bars to have the best cocktails.

Where can the best view can be found… King’s Park, overlooking the city across the Swan River, South Perth foreshore at night watching the city lights or watching the sunset at the Cott (Cottesloe beach).

Best local escapes… Swan Valley, just an hour from the Perth CBD and you have the beautiful Swan Valley, home to some of the best wineries in the world and WA’s oldest wine  growing region. You can explore a 32km food and wine trail, a boat cruise from the city to the Swan Valley or go on a heritage walk trail in Guildford, the gateway to the Swan Valley. What activities would you highly recommend in the city… surprisingly we are the world’s third windiest city so utilise these winds and the abundance of sunshine by surfcatting or yachting on the beautiful Swan River. Also check some cool day trips from Perth.

Give me one secret only a local would know… Most people would not know that the Perth Mint houses the world’s largest collection of gold bullion. Easiest ways to get around town… in the city itself, walking because it’s so small and accessible.

Make sure you pack… water bottle and good walking shoes as we are one of the sunniest capitals in the world so you need to keep hydrated. On foot you can easily get around the city to see heritage buildings or go bushwalking in one of the largest parks in a capital city in the world.

Within the metro area you can visit Hillarys Boat Harbour, Mundaring Weir, Serpentine Dam or Crystal Caves in Yanchep. Or maybe an outing to see the Dolphins at Mandurah’s Dolphin Quay, visit Penguin Island, springtime at Araluen Botanic Park where you can see 120,000 tulips in flower or head over to Rottnest Island and visit the Quokkas. Another thrilling experience is to witness the largest whale migration in the southern hemisphere.

In April 35,000 whales travel from Antarctica to WA’s north west to the warmer waters of the Kimberleys and then return again September to December. The return trip brings them very close to the coast an opportunity for a whale watching cruise. Another unique experience is a daytrip to Nambung National Park and the Pinnacles Desert, an area with spectacular limestone pinnacles. So is you can see, there is an extensive arrange of things to see and do in Perth, perched on the edge of the Indian Ocean, Perth really is like no other place on earth.

October 2, 2015 by admin 2 Comments

On The Blog This Month: Word On The Street Travel Series

We have some serious global wandering this month by way of a travel series called Word On The Street. We are going to travel around the world this month, I tell ya. Another new month getting us closer to the end of 2015! With this new month I thought I would introduce a few cities that I am sure some of you(including myself) have been wanderlusting about. What better way to do that than to interview other bloggers who live there, been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. The image above gives you an idea of where we will be travelling to this month. Four of those places will be introduced by other bloggers and the other four places I will be showing you around. The four cities introduced by blogger will be part of the 4 week series this month called Word On The Street. This will be published very Wednesday at 4pm to get your Wednesday Wanderlust juices flowing. So make sure you sign up on Bloglovin, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as well as the newletter(enter email to the right) to make sure you read them first when they publish.  Check out the list below for more details of whats to come:
1. Perth, Australia – We are visiting two beautiful cities in Australia this month one of which will be Perth. This will be introduced by Lyn and Steve Baker from A Hole In My Shoe. They will show you around Kings Park, Cottesloe Beach and the City Lights. (Publishes – 7/10/15)
2. Cusco, Peru – Heather Cole, a traveller and writer with a serious case of wanderlust will take us to Cusco in Peru. Visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, tips on the best places to see, where to eat, drink and how to get around this part in South America. I am dying to publish this Conversanttraveller’s tales, as I have been dreaming about Peru for too long now, but haven’t bought a ticket yet. (Publishes – 14/10/15)
3. Scottsdale, USA – With most wanderlusters dreaming about faraway places like Vietnam, Chile, Indonesia, we often forget about the USA. Yes, the big United States are filled with some crazy-beautiful sights so you would be nuts to not want to visit the  cool places on offer, one of which is Scottsdale in Arizona. This is also the state that has the amazing canyons! Antelope Canyon and Grand Canyon, of course. Allison Mathis from LiveLifeWell with introduce these desert landcapes this month. (Publishes – 21/10/15)
4.Russia and The World For Black History Month – October is Black History month in the UK so what better way to celebrate than to take you around the world for black history month. We will be looking at some historically significant black people from from around the world. Russia’s Alexander Pushkin who was and still is a well known poet. Then we will head to Mexico and check out Vicente Ramó Guerrero; Mexico’s first black president who also happen to have led Mexico to Independence in 1829. We will also be celebrating modern heroes too, like Mae Carol Jemison; the first black woman in Space. So look out for that! I will be covering North America, South America,  Europe, Asia and Africa! Around the world in black history.
5. South Downs – England – I am sure some of you may have seen pictures of the white chalk cliffs in England. Well I will be taking you around East Sussex and the beautiful coastal towns of this part of the UK. Even better was the fact that I was challenged to do this trip for under £100 by YHA hostels. I love a good challenge too, so look out for this post to find out whether I succeeded or failed miserably.
6. Sydney, Australia – Another trip back to Australia in the Word On The Street series will be provided by Jen Seligmann, The Trusted Traveller. Who hasn’t dreamed about seeing the Opera House from across the habour? Exactly what I though, no one. We will get the details from a local on where to hang out, eat, get the best views so look out for that. (Publishes – 28/10/15)
7. Snowdonia, Wales – I love adventure as much as the next person but I love it even more when experienced with friends. Over the August bank holiday a bunch of friends and I drove to Wales to explore Snowdonia National Park. Most were driving from London with one coming from as far away as Cornwall. I cant wait to share more pictures from our hikes, picnicking next to an elevated lake and just experiencing the most amazing views after scaling the peaks in Snowdonia.
8. New Delhi, India – Another trip I am dying to share with you is India. I will be giving you the low down on the sights to see in India’s New Delhi. What to see and do, where to stay, shop and eat. So be show to follow on social media to make sure you read that when it drops.
If you want to find the travel series for this month. You will be able to find it via the hashtag #WordOnTheStreetWithBee. The These will drop every Wednesday at 4pm.
