Where To Stay In Dubai | Guide To The Best Areas To Stay

Pearl Marina Apartments - Dubai Marina Hotels - Where to stay in Dubai UAE

Looking for where to stay in Dubai for sightseeing, where to stay with family, where to stay in Dubai on a budget or have a short visit and want to know where to stay in Dubai for 3 nights or even 2 nights? This post is for you! Finding where to stay in Dubai can be tricky if you don’t know the best places to stay in Dubai and what is close by.

Staying in areas like Deira, Dubai Marina or Sheik Zayed Road. I will cover this in more detail below.  In my last post, I shared travel tips on Dubai in addition to shots of Madinat Jumeirah, in this one I wanted to provide tips on the best places to stay in Dubai as well as share shots from our stay on Dubai Marina. Dubai Marina is the world’s largest man-made marina. That’s not the reason we stayed there.

The Marina has more of a cosmopolitan feel to it and very vibrant and outgoing vibe and I really enjoyed in on my last visit. So for this trip, I searched for hotels in Dubai for while before we decided on a stay at Pearl Marina apartments.

As I mentioned in my last post, we were traveling with my 2-year-old so having an apartment was perfect as my sister could have access to the kitchen and sort out food at any time of day. Besides, lately, my preference for accommodation when I travel have leaned towards apartments over hotels.

It feels more homely away from home. From apartment stays in Paris on the Seine to Airbnb rentals in Finland, which I will be sharing soon.

For more on Dubai including what to wear in Dubai, safety in Dubai, things to do in Dubai, afternoon tea at Burj Al Arab, exploring the gold souk, checking out the malls in Dubai in addition to details how to get around Dubai, check out my posts on the blog.

The Best Places To Stay In Dubai & The Best Areas To Stay In Dubai

Whether you are looking for where to stay in Dubai for sightseeing, where to stay in Dubai for shopping or even where to stay in Dubai with family, below is an area guide to the best areas to stay in Dubai, covering many of the beautiful neighbourhoods in Dubai. Further below you will also find hotel recommendations covering budget, mid-range and luxury hotels in Dubai.

Staying on Dubai Marina

This is a favourite for those looking for where to stay in Dubai with family as well as where to stay in Dubai for nightlife.  There are plenty of play areas as well as many cool rental appartments perfect for families.

My last visit to Dubai I stayed on Sheikh Zayed Road, this time when we were looking for somewhere to stay in Dubai, I was keen to stay on the Marina as everything is so accessible. A luxury waterfront with high-end commercial and residential buildings with a lively vibe. Perfect for walks at all hours of the day.

Dubai Marina is one of the best location to stay in Dubai as you have malls and restaurants and cool bars at your doorstep without much effort and the beaches are a short walk from Dubai Marina.

Dubai Marina is also one of thebest places to visit in Dubai with family as you have plenty of kids play areas by the marina walk, there are also tours by the marina perfect to go on with kids, in addition to the Marina Mall nearby with plenty of kid-friendly activities. This area also have many appartments that also help you arrange nanny services if you need them.

The majority of hotels here look out onto the Marina where you also have many tours leaving from the piers below. There are plenty of hotels in Dubai Marina but usually best to book well in advance as most places sell out very quickly.

Staying in Deira

If you are looking for where to stay in Dubai on a buget, definitely check out Deira. This is the ‘old Dubai’ and is noticeably different from the ultra-modern and shiny Downtown Dubai. Nearby Deira you have the Gold Souk, Dubai Creek is also close by. You have a lot of textiles shops and the whole place just has a very different vibe to Downtown.

Deira is one of the best affordable places to stay in Dubai. When staying in Deira, be sure to check out the port nearby and watch the fishermen transporting their wares and water the abra and dhow boats pass by. You also have Deira City Centre Mall offering dining and entertainment if you are staying at local Dubai hotels in Deira.

Staying In Jumeirah Beach Area | Where to stay in Dubai with family

With all the sunshine and heat Dubai has to offer, a stay at a beach hotel in Dubai with sea views is just a treat! This is another location that is popular for those looking for where to stay in Dubai with family or if you want to stay right by the beach. Hotels on the famous Jumeirah beach come with 5-star room service and some even with their own butler. Lined with palm trees for perfect shade to Dubai none stop sunshine.

Jumeirah Beach is the best location to stay when visiting Dubai as you have a mix of hotels, apartments on Jumeriah Beach with an Arabian and Mediterranean style architecture. This is also the best place to stay in Dubai near the beach as the beach on your doorstep. Dubai Marina is close by with plenty of entertainment. You also have the promenade with plenty of shopping, cafes, restaurants, and bars nearby.

Staying In Sheikh Zayed Road And Near Burj Khalifa

Sheikh Zayed Road is a Highway connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Right along the main highway cutting through the city are high-end hotels and luxury residential apartments. Exploring Dubai, you will no doubt pass through this Highway.

While driving, you’ll pass by the Dubai International Finance Centre, Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall along this highway. On my last visit, this was where I stayed, with Burj Khalifa right across the road from my hotel. To book your stay here, check out hotels on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Staying In Downtown Dubai – Where to stay in Dubai for shopping

Staying at hotels in downtown Dubai, you will have the 830-meter high Burj Khalifa and the world’s tallest building right in your backyard in addition to having the world’s largest mall.

Dubai Mall has some 1,200 mid-to-high-end European and American brand name shops, from luxury brands, the likes of Gucci, Burberry and Alexander McQueen to high street brands like Gap and the Banana Republic. You also have an endless number of dining options both in the malls and luxe hotels nearby.

Staying On Palm Jumeirah

This spectacular man-made island is a feat of engineering genius. Resembling the leaves of a palm tree, each ‘leaf’ is lined with luxurious private villas and apartments, resorts, exclusive hotels and restaurants in an area larger than 800 football fields.

The Atlantis Hotel is the jewel in the crown, awe-inspiring in size and scope. To stay on this island in Dubai check out this list of hotels on Palm Jumeirah to read reviews and compare hotel prices.

Staying in Al Barsha Dubai

Al Barsha provides more of an “experience the city like a local” feel to it. It’s fairly new but a well-established area with an affluent suburb. You will find an impressive display of villas here. Al Barsha is in close proximity to Mall of Emirates and Dubai Mall with plenty of shopping, entertainment, and food options. You also have metros nearby to explore the city using public transport. To book your stay in the area check out hotels and apartments in Al Barsha.

Staying Near Dubai Creek

This is another cool place to stay for those looking for where to stay in Dubai on a budget. Dubai Creek was once used for pearl cultivation and remains the city’s main thoroughfare for trader boats and docking.

In only a few decades, it has evolved from a saltwater creek into a mini-city that services the world’s elite. You’ll find a fusion of old and new Dubai on either side of the creek, crossable by water taxi or bridge. Close to Dubai Creek, you will also find the Al Fahidi Historical District and the Dubai Museum nearby – a rich collection that chronicles the city’s development.

From the creek it’s possible to spot palaces, mosques and other Dubai landmarks, including the Gold Souk and the Dubai Heritage Village. Visit The Grand Mosque – with its enormous minarets – or the traditional textile souks, restaurants and shisha cafés lined around the Dubai Creek. Madinat Jumeirah | Why A Winter Sun Break To Dubai Is A Must!

January 5, 2018 by admin 1 Comment

Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai view from Souk Madinat Jumeirah

A winter escape to Dubai was just what the doctor ordered! With a cold winter in full swing in the UK and the bomb cyclone rattling up the USA. No better time for winter holiday than the present enjoying the views and sunshine on Souk Madinat Jumeirah. I was in need of a winter escape in search of sun, sea, and sand after I finished in Oxford. So when my sister suggested Dubai, I knew we would be guaranteed sunshine.

I finished my year plus stint at Williams F1 in Oxford on Thursday 4th November and by Saturday that weekend, I was in Dubai. One never sleeps on an offer of a winter escape to Dubai. You might have read about my previous trips to Dubai in a visual diary I did and the top 10 places to see in Dubai. This trip was shorter than the last one. I was only going to be visiting Dubai for 5 days. Visiting with my sister and my nephew who at 2 years old has racked up quite a few stamps.

WINTER SUN BREAK IN DUBAI

My last trip to Dubai was at least 5 years ago so it was great to revisit and see how the city has changed. I feel like I miss-judged the city on my last trip. I guess my view of Dubai has changed somewhat. On my last visit, I thought it lacked character and it was just filled with big and fancy things for the sake of it. My opinion on that has changed. Yes, you get that impression as that start but when you look at it from the perspective of a country that discovers oil and is rich beyond measure and then you have the ruler of Dubai whose aim is to make UAE one of the best countries in the world.

They have plenty of oil and rather than have only few benefit off the country’s riches they have proceeded to modernise the Dubai and many other Emirates are following suit. The rapid modernisation has meant that the city of Dubai had many projects, all going nonstop  24/7, day and night! The country has seen many ‘world’s first’ projects;  Palm Jumeirah, Deira Island and Palm Jebel Ali. I am always amazed at every turn in the city. Contrary to rumours, Dubai does have a rich culture. You can get a glimpse of the culture in their architecture, thriving art scene and there are still many elements of Bedouin culture.

Yes, you may read about Westerners being arrested and this usually makes the news but for those that don’t know about the city. Dubai is a relaxed and a safe place to visit. So don’t let a few stories of foreigners behaving badly put you off visiting. It’s a Muslim country and as relaxed as it is you still have to abide by the countries laws in much the same way I have to abide by the laws in the UK where I live. As my sister was on the fence about visiting in much the same way a lot of women might be, I thought I would also address some of the questions she and many other people tend to have when it comes to Dubai. Questions like is Dubai safe, is it safe for women, is Dubai expensive, what activities or things can I do…

Things To Do In Dubai  | Itinerary Ideas And Available Activities

I have quite a few recommendations in my linked post above, of course visiting Madinat Jumeirah is a must. This the Emirates’s largest resort and built like an ancient Arabian town. Madinat Jumeirah is comprised of 3 grand hotels but you don’t have to be staying at the hotel to visit Madinat Jumeirah. You have Souk Madinat(contemporary souk is home to upscale shops, more than 40 cafés, bars, and restaurants), and of course, don’t miss out on the Abra boat ride.

I took my sister out on a little guide of some of the places I had visited. During my last visit a friend of mine living in Dubai. She has now moved to Oman but another currently lives in Fujeirah. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see them this time round so I was going to be the guide around the city. The city is also perfect if you are visiting with children. (We flew with Emirates Airline which also comes perfect with check-in desks for those with families which is a plus.) You have malls with aquariums and many activities kids love! Check out Wild Wadi Water Park.

There are plenty of other activities around the city. From views 160 floors up at  Burj Khalifa, afternoon tea at Burj Al Arab for more on that you can check out my other posts on Dubai. For others not mentioned in that post, you have day tours to other Emirates like the day trip to Abu Dhabi(I will post about that soon), you can do a skydive over the Palm Island, desert safari, dinner and marina cruises. The list is endless. For more tours and activities available in Dubai to help you put an itinerary together checkout Viator and Expedia.

Dubai Fashion /Dubai Shopping Malls

No one does shopping like Dubai. Almost every area has its own mini-mall. Among your activities when you visit Dubai definitely include the malls. From Mall of Emirates, Dubai Mall, Ibn Battuta Mall, Marina Mall. You could quite literally come to Dubai for a shopping holiday. You have malls filled with pretty much any luxury brand you can think of but they also cater to high street end budget. So you will still have your H&M, Zara, COS, Next, Marks and Spencers in addition to the likes of Gucci, LV, and Fendi.

If you have the money Dubai anything your little heart desires. Not to mention the popular gold souk in Dubai Creek. There is some serious potential to burn plastic here. Not to mention that malls have ski slopes, ice skating, balling, and all manner of activities that you wouldn’t expect to find in a mall but here in Dubai the rules are thrown out of the window.

Dubai dress code

With all that you read about dress codes in Dubai and some of the news articles will put the fear of God into people, to the point of not wanting to visit. Don’t believe everything you read. Yes, there are dress codes for public places like malls and certain other places you are expected to dress modestly. Most people don’t follow them as countless times you will see people with barely their shorts or sleeveless boob tube tops. Yes, you can be pulled aside for this and told to put some decent closes on.

Majority of times no one cares.  You may get a good stare down though. The rule of thumb is to just be respectable. You can still wear fashionable clothes while abiding by the rules. The rules are also not that strict to start with. They are not asking you to wear a hijab or cover from head to toe. Dubai also gets ridiculously hot so unless you want to burn, no doubt you will at least want to cover your shoulders in the heat. They also blast the air con in the malls so if you are going to wear strappy tops always pack a scarf just in case.

Both for the cold and if you get asked to cover up. The other thing most people don’t expect is nightlife in Dubai. Yes, there are clubs and bars here and women dress to kill just like anywhere else in the world. Just remember you are still in a foreign country so get drank and disorderly at your own risk. For more check out my post on what to wear in Dubai.

Is Dubai Safe / Is Dubai safe for women

At no point in any of my visits to Dubai have I ever felt unsafe. The strict rules in Dubai also mean there is a low crime rate but like any city in the world, it doesn’t mean that things do not happen. I have walked around late in the evening and felt pretty safe. I know many people have lived and worked in the UAE who say the same things. Where ever you go whether it said to be a safe country or city just apply some common sense.

Don’t walk in dark, low lit routes no matter whether the route is shorter. Also, alert friends and family if you feel unsafe. I know friends who lived in UAE some still do, I know family friends that live, work and study in the UAE. And as a woman, for those specifically wanting to know if  Dubai is safe.

I personally think it is, but like I said to use common sense whether visiting Dubai or London. I used Uber mostly when I getting around. You also have pink taxis driven by women and mainly to serve women. You also have train carriages that are just for women and children. I would highly recommend anyone to visit.

Is Dubai expensive

Yes and no. For someone that lives in an expensive city like London, I don’t think it’s overly expensive at all. It can be if you want to live the champagne life when you have a less than ready account to match your lifestyle. You can save money on where you stay. Tickets to Dubai are not that expensive.

You can always find deals. I believe my ticket with Emirates Airlines was just over £300 of a return from London but you can sometimes find deals for even as low as £150 – 200. Hotels can be as expensive depending on the area you choose to stay. If you are staying at places like Atlantis, Burj Al Arab, or Madinate Jumeriah hotels you will be paying a lot of money but the service is near perfect.

You also have plenty of budget hotels in the city with varying prices. There are hostels too I believe in addition to plenty of Airbnb options too. We were originally going to stay in one, but in the end, we didn’t have time to way for comms with hosts so I ended up booking an apartment on Dubai Marina. So shop around there is something for every budget. I tend to use Agoda, Booking.com or Trivago. I also do use Airbnb. I have posted a couple of times about places I have stayed at.

If you want to save money you can search sites like Groupon or timeout as they sometimes have plenty of discounted activities and tours. I have a post on 10 money saving tips when visiting London and some of those tips apply when you visit Dubai.

Madinat Jumeirah Abra Tours

There are many activities to do in Dubai but one to miss out on when you visit Madinat Jumeirah is the Abra boat ride. These are traditional boats made of wood, at 85AED you are cruised around on for 20-minute leisurely boat ride around Jumeirah lake. Pretty much the best way to admire the stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and float by as you pass the restaurants and cafes.

It’s also the best way to see some of the areas not accessible to the public by foot(unless you are staying at the local hotels or apartments on Madinat Jumeirah). I have a little Instagram video below from our ride. Also if you are staying at Jumeirah Beach Hotel you don’t have to pay for the boat rides. You simply show them your room key. They run the service so its free to their guests.

Usually a private ride on an abra on #Jumeirah would cost you 800AED but not when you have Niles with you. People’s fascination with his ‘fro had us upgraded to a private ride while only paying for two adult tickets at 85AED each. #score…. Clearly I need to travel with my nephew much more ???? #openingdoors #meltinghearts #dubai #uae

Dubai Visa / Do I need a visa

Another question I usually get asked do I need a visa for Dubai. This really depends on the passport you hold. If you hold an American or British passport and the majority of European passports, you get to glide through without a visa. For the others that do need to get a visa, you can use the online sites that have been licensed to provide visa services for the embassies.

The easiest way to find out which to use it to go to the UAE consulate website and go to the visas section. This way you know the link they forward you to is legit. As someone that has to get a visa for almost everywhere I visit, it gets tiresome having to almost give up way too much personal info. It sometimes feels like you even have to give up deets on your menstrual cycle while providing 50-million pages of bank statements, work letters… to the nth degree of promising you will be not over staying in the foreign country.

Yes, after a while it gets tired and old, but I love that when I visit Dubai I don’t have to deal with that when I fly through Emirates Airline. They process the visa once you purchase your ticket so that I get to Dubai with my pre-applied visa I get to glide through the airport. This is only available if you are flying with Emirates Airline. Once you purchase your ticket you log in to manage your booking and you have a link to apply for a visa, which involves uploading your passport and any previous UAE stamps you might have had. Within 24rs to 3 days you receive the confirmation visa in the email to print out for when you travel and arrive at in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or whichever your entry point into the country is.

Where to stay in Dubai

I covered where to stay in Dubai in my post featuring all the best areas in to Dubai you can choose to stay in.  My last visit I stayed Sheik Zayed Road but you can find hotels here and downtown Dubai near Burj Khalifa. This time around I stayed in Dubai Marina. I wanted to be close to the beaches.

I also love the lively atmosphere here hence why on this visit I was keen to stay here. Places are open almost 24/7. You have plenty of activities around bars and restaurants, malls to boats cruising around with tours, whether is diner and cruise or speedboat tours to the Palm Island. You can also should to state on the Palm Island itself. You have Atlantis The Palm on the island too. I will share with you where we stayed in my next post on Dubai.

Dubai | A Visual Diary

June 27, 2014 by admin 28 Comments

Dubai | A Visual Diary

Dubai, the land of opulent hotels, glorious sunshine, amazing food and of course the glamours shopping. Its the most popular or the 7 Emirates. You may have read my top 10 things to do in Dubai. This is a visual diary of some of the un-posted pictures from the trip to Dubai. Everything is done on a grander scale in Dubai, from dancing fountains, Sky slops in malls, to 7 start hotels, man-made islands in the shape of world countries, worlds tallest building, which by the way Saudi Arabia is planning on snatching soon with plans of the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah.

You cannot help but be impressed with the development in Dubai; a land the arose from the desert to this great big metropolis that houses the biggest and best of everything.

Although exploring the city is easy if you have a car, I wouldn’t recommend hiring a car(even as cheap as they are), as driving in Dubai is fairly erratic and frankly dangerous in my opinion from the things I witnessed.

So you can either stick to taxis or use the Metro system. This had about 50 stations the last time I was there but was fastly expanding to cover more of the city and outer limits of Dubai. It covers the airport too so if you have a long layover in Dubai you can explore the main sights and get back to the airport for you flight fairly easily.

So have you been to UAE or any of its other Emirates yet?

Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai | Sights Markets Beaches & More

June 23, 2013 by admin 30 Comments

Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai | Sights Markets Beaches & More - Everythiing you need to know to enjoy a sunny holiday in Dubai. From things to see and do in Dubai to where to stay in Dubai and what to #pack. #uae #traveltips #itsallbee

Heading to Dubai and looking for the top things to do in Dubai. Well you are in luck as I take you through some of the best places to have fun in Dubai. I was in awe of the scale of modern development to the country and what money has certainly bought the country.  There are plenty of great activities in Dubai to please people of all ages.

I was lucky that during this visit I had my friend to show me around the city to get the most of my visit exploring the list of Dubai tourist places below. With an all year round sun (something we only dream about in London), what more could a girl ask for? Well, this girl wanted to know where the Malls were, after all the malls are all among lists of Dubai must-see places.

Having enjoyed the sun and exploring the old and new Dubai, the beautiful malls and great activities I must say, Dubai certainly has wow factor and then some! Here are my top 10 things to do  in Dubai if you happen to be seeking sun, sea and sand in the Middle East.

View of Burj Al Arab from The Madinat Souk in Jumeirah

Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai

10. Stay at…Jumeirah Emirates Towers.

It doesn’t get any more convenient than Sheik Zayed Road. Beautifully located and overlooks Burj Khalifa in the distance. Great service with a contemporary feel to the décor.  There are other options around the area but I like the location and the fact that it was fairly central and close to Dubai Mall, World Trade Centre and Emirates Mall.

For full list of options on where to stay in Dubai, check on my guide on the best places to stay on Dubai Marina as well as a guide to the best areas to stay in Dubai. What better way to experience all the things to do in Dubai for tourists than in the comfort of a well-located hotel or apartment.

9. Spend the day…Getting lost in Dubai Mall.

If can’t find it here then it probably doesn’t exist. I am only kidding, but that should give you an idea of how big this place is. This is something to experience!  They call it the “social and lifestyle experience” and a great addition to your Dubai activities itinerary.

Whether you are a novice shopper or an old hand, you have to experience the spectacular array of outlets; all 1,200 of them! Entertainment options from ski slopes, Sega, an aquarium and cinema reels. When you need a break from all that, you can feast your way around the world with restaurants and cafes serving food from world cuisines. If you are still belly-aching for more because you are some voracious tourist, then you can have more! Just step on outside for a spectacular show.

Ever seen water dance?! Well Step outside and you should be able to answer yes to that question if anyone ever asks.  Another must see in Dubai is, of course, The Dubai Fountain! Water projected as high as 500 meters and choreographed to music. When I was there the spraying was swaying to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Yes, they also had that scary laugh at the end of the song while the water turned to mist. It was definitely time to head back for some shut eye and get ready for another day of exploring.

Time to time they change the water sequence as well as the music the water dances to. So, if you are looking for must see attractions in Dubai, this is one to check out especially in the evenings as things wind down.

8. Stroll around…Madinat Souk.

Built in Arabic old style architecture and features a labyrinth of little alleyways that attempt to obscure the shops and array of restaurants around the Souk.  With Lantern-lit hallways, narrow water ways and the faint smell of oils and aromatic scents with prices being negotiable, you can try and haggle yourself a bargain.

Not as authentic as I thought it would be though, but still another beautiful place to hang out. It also offers an amazing view of the Burj Al Arab(picture at the top of this post). In addition to adding the Madinat Souk to your Dubai must-see places, is adding the Abra boat ride when you visit the souk. If you are staying at Jumeirah Beach hotel, the rides are free.

Burj Al Arab – Afternoon Tea Session

7. Have Afternoon Tea at…Burj Al Arab.

This is the ultimate in the top 1o activities to do in Dubai. I am sure you have heard of this self-proclaimed 7-star hotel ( official ratings only go up to 5 stars). Its among the top in places worth visiting in Dubai. Dominating the skyline from many angles around the city.

You couldn’t ignore it if you tried. The world’s tallest hotel with world-class service. My friend and I were booked for an afternoon tea in the Sky View Bar on the 27th Floor. We also struck luck as we were moved to the corner window side table which had views of the Palm Island and Jumeirah Beach.

You cannot come to Dubai without sipping fine tea 200 meters above sea level, quenching your thirst while the jazz music soothes the mind allowing you to dream a little whilst the sun is setting right before your eyes. The main lobby of the hotel also has a water fountain that has fantastic rhythmic synchronisation to the water.

gold souk - Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai - Things to do and visit in Dubai
Anyone for a gold belt?…

6. Buy…Gold at Gold Souk.

This is among things not to miss in Dubai. That’s if you didn’t manage to buy yourself a gold bar from the ATM in Dubai Mall. Yes, I did spot an ATM you could bar gold bars from.  Well considering the fact that Dubai is known for cheap gold (not bad quality but cheap as in great prices compared to other countries), no wonder they can afford to have ATMs with gold bars. If you fancy yourself as a bargain hunter, also check out these cheap things to do in Dubai.

You just can’t haggle at the ATM, so instead, you head for the Gold Souk in Khalid Bin Waleed Road. Here you will find window displays with more gold than should be allowed. I now understand why people get gold teeth! Well, I guess at that point you have so much gold that you don’t even know what to do with it.  So instead you just throw a few bars in your mouth and chew on that for a while.

5. Have dinner on…A Boat on Dubai Creek.

This is among top Dubai attractions and activities, if only for the experience alone. Before heading out to dinner on the boat we spent some time around the creek and took the abra(wooden boats) to cross over to Deira. If you want to see the old Dubai then head to Dubai Creek as it connects Deira and Bur Dubai creating a mix of new and old. The souks are also within walking distance.

After mingling it was time to clean up and head for dinner on the boat, which circled around the creek to give you a glimpse of the towering Skyscrapers that litter the skyline. The food was absolutely fantastic with light entertainment on board.

4. Get High…At Burj Khalifa.

Can you hear me?! That was my friend mattering those words as my ears hadn’t popped yet. That’s what happens when you ascend 124 floors in 60 seconds flat! Burj Khalifa has some 200+ floors and more than any other building in the world.

It’s recommended you book in advance to avoid the queues. That is for the timed ticket, or you can pay a little more and go up whenever you decide to turn up.You cannot come to Dubai and not visit the world’s tallest structure. Yes, our very own Shard here in London tried to reach the heights but fall short a few floors.

The observatory deck on the 124th floor, on a good day offers ant-like views of little cars moving about on the ground. With car lights turning into long lines forming the roadway gives you an idea of just how high up you are in the air.

3. Let your Heart skip a beat on…A Desert Safari.

This is another one in top things to do in Dubai and things not to miss in Dubai. The journey is not for the faint-hearted or those spotting dentures as you are more likely to spit those bad boys out. We were picked up from the hotel and driven to the desert. Arriving at the Desert we changed to a 4×4 for an adventurous ride in the sand dunes.

It seemed like the driver got a kick out of the ladies screaming for mercy that he decided on another extra ride in the dunes just for the fun of it. My head said “Lets do that again!” while my stomach whispered, “I swear to God if you get in that car I will show everyone what you had for breakfast!”

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Dubai. Also Playing dress up(see picture below) in the desert, getting an owl to sit on my hand, watching a belly dancer balance a sword on her head, music and great food among other things.

2. Watch the Sun Set at…The One and Only: Mirage.

This is one of those places to add to your night activities in Dubai. Also, the best place to watch the sun set while enjoying the early evening breeze at theOne and Only Mirage. We enjoyed a cozy and quiet Moroccan tea session on the rooftop terrace beautifully decorated with embroidered cushions, candle lights. The place is laid back, allowing you to just chill out and unwind and stay in the moment.

1. Recover at…A Ladies Only Spa.

It was time to chill out after all of that. Dubai in all of its luxury you won’t fail to find a spot to pumper yourself. That goes for the guys too. Among the cool places to are Dubai spas. My friend booked us into a ladies only spa were be had the Arabic hammam(Moroccan baths).

A place where you get a good scrub down(AND I mean a REALLY good scrub down). Nails done, massages, it was now time to have some henna done. I had 2 people, one working and doodling away with henna on my hands and the other drawing some fancy designs on my feet. So relaxing I almost fell asleep.

We are at 1, the countdown over. It was time to return home. Chilled and relaxed. The perfect ending to my week in Dubai.

Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai - Popular activities in Dubai
To go home or not to go, that is the question…

If you also happen to have a transit stop over for a couple of  hours in Dubai then heard for Dubai Mall or even Burj Khalifa for quick exploring. The journey from the airport to Burj Khalifa station is about 30 minutes so a round trip of about an hour and factor in some time to look around too then back to the airport.

There is more to see and do in Dubai, Dubai helicopter tours or sky diving over the Palm Island, there is an adventure to be hard for all. I would love to do a skydive near the Palm or the World Islands, but want to see Oman first before heading back to Dubai.

So have you been to Dubai, anything else you can add to the above top 10 best things to do in Dubai? If you haven’t been, what are you waiting for?
