Are Things Cheaper In Dubai?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Tourist in front of Atlantis the Palm hotel from The Pointe waterfront dining and entertainment destination at the Palm Jumeirah

Dubai is home to the elite class and is a luxury tourism hub, however, you never see tourists coming back unsatisfied from a vacation in Dubai. Dubai offers amazing tourism opportunities even for those on a budget. You can certainly work through a Dubai itinerary and have an affordable vacation which can be quite cheaper than you imagine.

I have covered what to expect in terms of Dubai currency, in this post, we are going to be looking into whether things are cheap in Dubai? Let’s head on and see what can be cannot be affordable.

Comparison of Dubai with US and UK

Do you know a trip to London will cost you more than a trip to Dubai? Perhaps visiting Madame Tussauds can cause you to be broke and visiting Burj Khalifa can actually be affordable.

Many of the tourist destinations around the world are far more expensive than Dubai. Taking a trip to the desert oasis, for example, is cheaper than any urban tourist destination. Taking an example, A trip for a desert safari in Dubai will cost you nearly the same as a trip to desert Safari in Sydney. The difference lies in the authentic environment offered by Dubai as compared to Sydney.

When you are on a budget, the second most important part of vacation after living is the food. Dubai offers a series of inexpensive restaurants to dine from even If you are on a budget. A meal at an inexpensive restaurant will cost you around US$6.81 whereas, if compared to the US, a meal there can cost you around US$15. So you can see the difference is half the price! I have also covered a few of my favourite African restaurants in Dubai to check out.

Pretty much everything you buy in Dubai can be easily bought and enjoyed at an affordable price. If you have traveled to NewYork first, you would know exactly what I mean!

Are Things Cheaper In Dubai?

Is transport In Dubai cheap

When visiting Dubai you must try out the luxurious Dubai Metro train. It is air-conditioned, clean, comfortable and CHEAP! If you compare the transport of the Dubai Metro train to the trains in Paris and New York, you will find that Dubai in this case, is actually cheap. Comparing the price for a fix distance, a one-way ticket will cost you US$1.36 whereas, the same distance in New York will cost you around US$2.50. Do you see the difference?

Though the train does not cover all the tourist destinations such as the famous Palm Jumeira. For a location like that, it safer and cheaper to grab a taxi to that location. Though it might cost slightly more or the same as New York by taking the taxi, it is yet an affordable option even for those on a budget.

Is Shopping In Dubai Cheap –  What Is Cheap In Dubai?

So is make-up cheap in Dubai, are designer clothe cheaper in Dubai, watches, cars, electronics and so on? Whether you are a shopaholic or a tourist on a budget, cheap shopping in Dubai might be questionable considering the luxuries Dubai has to offer. From electronics to groceries, from jewelry to buying souvenirs for friends back home, Dubai has everything offered at an affordable cost. Here is a list of item you can shop for in Dubai at cheaper prices.

  • Electronics and electronic gadgets: Are you interested in buying cheap electronic gadgets? Then we have good news for you. Apple products and many electronics are usually available at a cheaper price in Dubai as compared to the US and UK. Just visit the AL Fahidi street or the Sharaf DG store to bag a bargain for yourself!
  • Groceries: Even when there are many mid ranges and inexpensive restaurants to dine from, you might be interested in buying the everyday grocery items in your stay in Dubai. While beer and wine are relatively more expensive, other simple food items are comparatively cheap. The cost of a regular can of beer is around US$4.13 which half the price more than that in the US. On the other hand, the price of a fresh loaf of bread in Dubai is around US$1.22 compared to US$2.70 in the US. Other items such as oranges or a can of coke cost the same as that found in the US and UK.
  • Cosmetics: Whether you are a MAC fan or a Molton Brown fan, cosmetics in Dubai cost about the same as anywhere around the world. Because of course, the brands like to keep the prices the same worldwide. However, cosmetics in the US can be found at a cheaper price in a duty-free shop! I hope this helps if you are a tourist on a budget. With so many places t hang out and many souvenirs to choose from, its best to save your money for the fun part in Dubai.
  • Accessories: Dubai was established and constructed in a desert. Though the city offers modern and tourist attractions architecture, the blazing sun could still cause sunburn. If you need to buy a new pair of sunglasses, we have just the place in mind for you. To buy cheaper sunglasses than the US and UK just visit wholesale shops in Dubai. Galleries such as Lfayet offer branded pair of sunglasses at slashed prices.
  • Petrol: Did you ever wonder why a taxi ride in Dubai is as cheap as a bus ride in the Uk? Its because the petrol prices in Dubai are much lower than those in the UK and the US. Though Dubai has subsidized the petrol prices and they are a little higher than before, the prices are still far lower than most of the countries. The price of petrol in Dubai at the moment is around US$2.1 per gallon whereas the price of petrol is around US$2.6 in the US and around US$5.2 per gallon in the UK.

Also note: Unlike the UK, USA or many parts of Europe, you can haggle down prices in Dubai too! Look out my post on cheap shopping in Dubai.

Are Things Cheaper In Dubai?

So is Dubai Cheap or Expensive

Now that we have compared prices of everyday items such as groceries and shopping accessories for the shopaholics, you can safely conclude a trip to Dubai will be an affordable one.

Don’t get me wrong, Dubai can also be eye-wateringly expensive if you are about that lifestyle, my point is, with great summertime deals and cheap transport for tourists, everything is cheap for a tourist on a budget. Now that we have sparked the curiosity of cheap prices in Dubai, plan your visit and enjoy your trip in Dubai!

Travel Smart in the UAE: Essential Tips for Your 10-Day Itinerary

The UAE is built for big experiences — think rooftop brunches, desert adventures, luxury shopping, and architectural wonders from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. But behind every epic itinerary is a well-prepared traveler. From SIM cards to travel insurance, here’s how to plan smarter for your 10 days in the UAE.

🛡️ 1. Secure Your Trip with the Right Insurance

From luxury hotel stays to desert excursions, travel in the UAE deserves proper coverage. Opt for travel insurance for Middle East trips that includes medical care, flight delays, and personal liability — especially if you plan to drive or book high-value tours.

💳 2. Use the Right Credit Card for Upgrades & Points

Whether you’re booking 5-star hotels, shopping in Dubai Mall, or renting a car, use one of the best travel credit cards for UAE city travel. Many credit cards for luxury travel to the UAE offer lounge access, hotel upgrades, car rental insurance, and bonus points on travel spending.

🏨 3. Choose Hotels That Match Your Style

From beachfront resorts on Saadiyat Island to high-rise suites in Dubai Marina, the best hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi cater to every type of traveler. For couples, go romantic with skyline views; for families, look for hotels with kid-friendly pools and direct beach access.

🚗 4. Renting a Car? Protect Your Ride

Planning to drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi or explore the desert? Make sure your coverage includes car rental insurance in the UAE. Many premium travel credit cards offer this as a benefit — but always double-check the terms before you decline the rental company’s coverage.

📱 5. Stay Connected with Local SIMs

Don’t rely on hotel Wi-Fi. Get SIM cards for UAE travel from providers like Etisalat or Du to stay connected across both cities. Look for packages that include data and local calling — essential for using maps, booking tours, or uploading envy-worthy skyline snaps in real time.

Where To Stay In Dubai

First lets talk luxury hotel recommendations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. One of the most important things, when planning a trip to Dubai or sorting out your itinerary for Dubai, is where you stay.

Dubai has apartments and hotels all at incredible budgets to eye-watering night rates that may require you to re-mortgage your homes. The point is there is something for every budget.

I have stayed on Dubai Marina as well as near Sheik Zayed Road with views of Burj Khalifa from my room.

I have shared tips on the best areas to stay in Dubai to help make that decision a little easier. For more hotels in Dubai click here.

Need tips on the best dresses for Dubai vacation packing list? If you’re planning a trip to Dubai, one of the most important things to keep in mind apart from the weather is how to dress and what to wear in Dubai.

Below are tips on dresses for Dubai trip whether vacation or business. I have covered in more details about what to pack for Dubai, dress codes, details of weather and temperature for each month. Be sure to read that post as this post specifically looks at dress for suitable for Dubai trips and vacations.

Dubai is one of the emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, popularly referred to as UAE. Dubai is a Muslim state, so in most places, you have to adopt a respectable dress code. In your hotel room or in private places, you can dress how you want but once you want to go sightseeing and experience Dubai, you should conform to the dress code.

One of the most versatile and best things to wear while in Dubai is a dress. Dresses come in various styles, designs, and types, so it’s not hard to find dresses that fit your personal style. Dresses worn must cover your shoulders, cleavage, and below your knees.

Guide To The Best Dresses To Wear In Dubai

Below are some tips on not only what to wear but the styles as well as what not to wear. It’s always best to respect the rules of the countries and cities you visit than to ruin a trip simply because you don’t want to obey the rules of the land.

What not to wear in Dubai

Dresses you shouldn’t wear in Dubai include sleeveless gowns(boob tube style), strapless gowns, tight bodycon dresses, tight lycra gowns that leave nothing to the imagination, mini dresses that stop above your knees, see-through dresses, and short dresses in Dubai should be avoided. Remember that Dubai is a conservative country.

UAE and Dubai has rules and regulations and expects tourists to follow these rules and dress codes. It’s best to respect the rules of the land where ever you may be visiting. Most places in Dubai will show the the clothing rules in Dubai, especially at mosques, business buildings, and even malls. Adhere to these and you will be fine.

Clothes not to wear in Dubai include super short shorts, mini-skirts, low-cut tops, and clothes that are deemed immoral or provocative. While you may get away with wearing something revealing it only takes one person to report you and the game is over. Also, you will have a lot of stares making it super uncomfortable to even walk a few steps.

Dubai dress length guide

There are four major dress lengths for women. There’s mini, pencil/knee-length, midi, and maxi, also known as full-length. You should target dresses that are longer than your average knee-length dress.

I recommend this dress because it’s super breezy and lightweight. It’s a great summer dress than can be worn to casual events and places. Wrap Dresses

Wrap dresses are great and I absolutely recommend them among the best day dresses for Dubai. They give you the opportunity to still be extremely stylish and sexy while conforming to Dubai’s dress code. They clinch at the waist and they compliment your body and curves amazingly.

Questions I Get Asked About Dress To Wear In Dubai

Can you wear dresses in Dubai? – Can I wear dresses in Dubai?

The answer is yes! You are perfectly fine to wear ladies dresses in Dubai as you would in any other country around the world. There are some rules around length and types of dresses in Dubai you are allowed to wear.

Can I wear short dresses in Dubai? Are short dresses allowed in Dubai? Can u wear short dresses in Dubai?

Yes, you can wear short dresses within reason and in certain circumstances. For example you can wear short dresses to the nightclubs in Dubai but you have to think of how you are getting there. In my other post on what to wear in Dubai, I also recommend packing some duster coats to wear on top to and from the night club. Short dresses are also not allowed in religious places of worship, you will be turned away if not escorted by the police!

What dresses are not allowed in Dubai?

Bodycon dresses that leave nothing to the imagination are not allowed in most places in Dubai. Even some hotels will have rules about what you can wear in public spaces. For example, some of them won’t allow bikinis in the lobby or breakfast rooms.

Revealing dresses are not allowed in Dubai. While you can wear tight figure-hugging dresses, just be mindful that they are not too revealing, too low cut or too short. Again it only takes one local to call the police. Dubai clothing rules are not as strict as Saudi Arabia. You can wear almost anything you can wear in London or Paris but just steer on the conservative side of each dress style.

What To Wear Sandboarding In Dubai

In my post on what to wear in Dubai, I covered a bit about what to wear on a Dubai desert safari but that is in majority for women. If you are going to take part in Sandboarding I would advise the ladies to either pack an additional pair or clothing or make sure that you wear leggings or loose-fitting trousers or shorts so that you are comfortable for the activity. The same goes for the men, shorts or loose-fitting trouser. Also, don’t forget to pack:

  • Wet Wipes – Sand will get in everywhere!

  • Suncream – Dubai is hot and the only shade you will have in the Bedouin camps but that is after all the outdoor activities so make sure you protect your skin because cancer doesn’t discriminate. That goes for my brown folk that thinks they don’t need sun cream.

  • Scarf or jumper  – This is if you are doing a combined tour as those tours finish in the evening and the desert can get surprisingly cold.

  • Comfortable Shoes – This goes without saying, comfortable shoes are a must on the tour. If you have tried walking in sand in flip flops you will know what I mean so don’t try and come in flip flops for a sandboarding session!

Abu Dhabi vs Dubai

So, Abu Dhabi vs Dubai, which would I choose? Below are things to do in Abu Dhabi but I have also linked below to things to do in Abu Dhabi. Both are beautiful but as Dubai is a little more developed, and a lot more relaxed compared to how conservative Abu Dhabi is I think I prefer Dubai.

I would still highly recommend that you visit both Abu Dhabi and Dubai and make you mind up. I have shared a couple of posts on the blog with plenty of things to do in Dubai so below I am sharing things to do in Abu Dhabi to get your trip planning started.

Things To Do In Abu Dhabi | Abu Dhabi Sightseeing

Although not as developed as Dubai, Abu Dhahi offers a plethora of things to do for the whole family. So whether you are visiting with friends or with kids, there is something for everyone. Below are some of the places we visited on the day trip to Abu Dhabi from Dubai. For more on what’s available in the capital check out the Abu Dhabi tourism board website.

The Grand Mosque of Abu Dhabi | Sheikh Zayed Mosque In Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque a work of art. Its located in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. It’s one of the world’s largest and the country’s largest mosque and is a key place of worship for Friday gathering and Eid prayers for many of the city’s locals. The mosque’s first ceremony was the funeral of its namesake, Sheikh Zayed, who is buried at the site.  Build with a capacity to hold 40,000 worshippers.

It features 82 domes, over a 1,000 columns, 24-carat gold gilded chandeliers, and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. The main prayer hall is dominated by one of the world’s largest chandeliers –10 metres in diameter, 15 metres in height and weighing twelve tonnes.  Reflective pools surround the mosque, amplifying its beauty. The striking white and gold colours shining in the sun are transformed at night by a unique lighting system which reflects the phases of the moon. This is an absolute must see in Abu Dhabi and the very reason people do the day trip to Abu Dhabi from Dubai and many other emirates in the UAE. Be sure to know the dress code for the Grand Mosque.

Mosque Tours: The mosque offers complimentary hour-long guided tours. These run from Sunday to Thursdays at 10am, 11am and 5pm. Friday at 5pm and 7pm  and Saturday 10am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 7pm.

Sheik Zayed Opening Hours: The mosques in Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is open daily to visitors apart from Friday mornings when its open to worshippers only. Open from 9am to 10pm Saturday to Thursday and 4.30 – 10pm on Fridays.

Abu Dhabi Souk

A souk is essentially just a market in much the same we have many must-see markets in London, Abu Dhabi has plenty of souks. There is a Fish Souk, Al Mina Fruit and Veg Souk, Carpet Souk, Al Ain Souk and many more to add to your list. Some of the tours will take you to the Fish Souk or Fruit and Veg Souk. Abu Dhabi’s souks are worth a visit for their bustling atmosphere, eclectic variety of goods, and to observe the traditional way of doing business.

Every morning, fishermen load their catch on to the quayside and prepare for a day of haggling. The Fish Souk at Mina Zayed, near Abu Dhabi’s main port area. Across the road from the Fish Souk is the Al Mina Fruit & Vegetable Souk market is bursting with colour as each seller arranges his produce outside the shops. The choice is amazing, and you can buy by the kilo or the box. Even if you are not buying, this area provides excellent photo opportunities. Another Souk that is nearby is the Capet Souk, where more bargains can be had.

Abu Dhabi Heritage Village

This is a reconstruction of a traditional oasis village provides an interesting glimpse into the emirate’s past. Traditional aspects of the desert way of life, including a campfire with coffee pots, a goats’ hair tent, and a falaj irrigation system, are attractively displayed in the open museum.  Many of the tours stop here but there isnt that much to see.

There is only one restaurant on site. It does, however, offer amazing views of the city as well as a cool spot to chill and shade from the city’s relentless sun. There are workshops where craftsmen demonstrate traditional skills, such as metal work and pottery, while women sit weaving and spinning. The craftsmen are happy to share their skills, and may occasionally give you the chance to try them out.

How To Get To Abu Dhabi From Dubai | Best Way To Travel From Dubai To Abu Dhabi

If you are heading to the Emirates to visit Dubai, you need to make sure you add Abu Dhabi to your Dubai itinerary. There are several ways to get from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

Below I will walk you through how to get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai by bus, car or coach. Sadly there are currently no trains, at least not during the time I was visiting but I believe this is currently in the making.

There are still a considerable number of the best way to get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

While many focus their visit on Dubai with its many beaches, malls, skyscrapers and more, Abu Dhabi being the capital of the UAE has been flourishing in the hopes of catching up with the rapid development of Dubai.

Below I will be sharing ways on how to get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai, whether you choose to visit Abu Dhabi for a day trip or for a couple of days from Dubai or the other Emirates, there are many things to do in Abu Dhabi, from Sheik Zayed Mosque, Ferrari World, Souks, Malls, of course, luxurious hotels.

Options for Dubai to Abu Dhabi transportation at the moment don’t include trains. Once they add that option. It will be a game-changer for transport in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, it will also cut the time doing the journey between the two cities. Travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and the other way around is very easy anyway.

How To Get To Abu Dhabi From Dubai | Best Way To Travel From Dubai To Abu Dhabi

I was originally hoping to visit Abu Dhahi by car. I was going to rent a car as I have become used to driving when I travel. From exploring by camper van in Iceland to driving in Israel and Spain.

In the end, I decided it was best to go with a tour to make it easier for myself, sister and my cute as a button nephew who you may have spotted in my recent post on Souk Madinat in Jumeriah, to get around Abu Dhabi with ease.

We also considered using Uber to Abu Dhabi from Dhabi but as the cost of a return trip was around the same price as our whole tour including all the various stops in an air condition bus, it made sense to do that.

If we were staying for a couple of days in Abu Dhabi I would have gone for Uber or car rental as I have used Uber in Dubai on so many occasions I have found it safe and reliable.

The below can be used for how to get to Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi from Dubai but also provides details on the other best way to travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. You have the shuttles from the airport as well as the bus to abu Dhabi from Dubai.

Uber & Taxi From To Abu Dhabi From Dubai

When it comes to tourist offers comparing Abu Dhabi versus Dubai, the two cities offer something different from each other. While still complimentary to each. When it comes to transportation, there are plenty of ways to do this journey one is the going from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by taxi but if your flight is arriving in the late evening or early morning. Your only option of getting to Abu Dhabi from Dubai airport is to get a taxi or Uber. The other option is to get a rental car.

If you have had a long flight I would not advise this option, I speak from experience. It’s a tiring journey to do when you are tired dare I say dangerous too? The cabs to Abu Dhabi from Dubai Airport are around 300 AED(£60) for a one-way trip and Uber costs around 200 AED (around £40-50).

The price to get to Grand Mosque Abu from Dubai is around. We stayed on the Dubai Marina and the estimate I had from Dubai Marina to Abu Dhahi via Uber was around £45.

Expect the Dubai to Abu Dhabi taxi fare from central Dubai to be a little bit more than that, I am talking if you are staying near Burj Khalifa or even Deira.

Etihad Coach Services To Abu Dhabi From Dubai Airport

In much the same way some of the Emirates airlines offer free tours and easy visa application and processing, Etihad Airlines offers a free coach service to its economy passengers.

You can get the shuttle from Dubai to Abu Dhabi if you have flown on Etihad the airline. The airline offers a pre-booked coach to Abu Dhahi from Dubai Airport.

Enquire with the airline before traveling as the coach has to be booked at least 24 hours in advance on their website or by contacting them on the phone.

The buses are operated in conjunction with the Dubai and Abu Dhabi Transport authority and tickets for the buses cost around 25 AED/ £5 one way for the Dubai run buses while the Abu Dhabi buses are 15 AED. They are all air-conditioned and are really comfortable. Buses run every 20 minutes from 6am to 11pm. Buses sometimes make a quick stop near to Yas Island on the way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

To leave from her check Dubai to Abu Dhabi bus timings from Ibn Battuta.

  • The journey between Dubai and Abu Dhahi is about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on the traffic.
  • Note that front seats are always reserved for women and families and the seats on the back are for men only.

Car Rental From Dubai To Abu Dhabi

Another one of the best ways to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai or Dubai to Abu Dhahi is via the freedom of having your own car. There are plenty of car rental companies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, check out Easy Car. Parking is free almost everywhere in the Emirates.

Rental cars are fairly affordable in addition to petrol being fairly reasonably priced. The only thing to be aware of is that Dubai is now cracking down on speeding with many cameras being installed so if you do get caught they will take the money directly from your card.

The crazy traffic in Dubai there are toll road just so you are ware when driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. Also, ensure you have an update international driving license otherwise you may not be allowed to rent a car.

Its said to be a lot easier to rent a car in Dubai than it is in Abu Dhabi so if you are arriving in Dubai and heading to Abu Dhabi, make sure you rent in Dubai if possible and return it back to the Airport when leaving.

What To Wear in Dubai | Dubai Packing Tips For Female Travellers

Just what can you wear in Dubai? Well, basically anything – within reason! So, thinkingg to yourself, what do tourists wear in Dubai or typical dress code in Dubai for tourists? Well, then this post is for you as it will help on how to dress for Dubai! Travels to the beautiful “City of Gold” and a land of contrasts is on many wanderlust lists.

In a recent post, I shared a guide on where to stay in Dubai, in this post I am sharing a few essentials for your travel packing list for Dubai. This is to help you learn more about acceptable clothing in Dubai. And some tips as to why these are your travel essentials for a memorable trip to one of the most known Emirates.

What To Wear In Dubai When Visiting UAE

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. It is often confused with Abu Dhabi, another popular city. And being a majority Muslim country, there are often conflicting information on what you can and cannot wear. I will start with the basics then dive right in and also cover Dubai women’s dress code summer periods.

What To Wear in Dubai | Dubai Packing Tips For Female Travellers

What Not To Wear In Dubai | What Is The Dress Code In Dubai?

When it comes to what not to wear in Dubai the list is shorter than the list of what to wear in Dubai. Majority of what you can wear in the West, you can wear in Dubai. Things to stay away from are mini skirts, revealing clothes, too low-cut tops, those are a no go, especially when it comes to the ultra-conservative Abu Dhahi.

So is it ok to wear shorts in Dubai? You can wear shorts providing they are not short shorts, they are at least knee-length. For malls just make sure you pack a shawl to cover the arms and chest if you think your clothes are on the board of revealing or low cut.

Most hotels will also have rule about where you can wear your bikini so just make sure you pack a few kaftans to wear over your swim clothes on the way to the hotel beach or pool as some hotels will not allow swim around the lobby or public areas. This is the same when it comes to what to wear in Dubai mall. You don’t have to wear a nun’s outfit but just be wary of being on the conservative side when it comes to modesty.

How Much and What To Pack For Dubai?

If you’re going on vacation for a short trip, you don’t need more than a carry on and a knapsack. You can easily appropriate dress for Dubai in a carry-on.  There are two reasons why I recommend this.

The first is that you will have to pay for your checked bag(s) based on your fare type and the airline you use. Second, if you have connecting flights, traveling without a checked piece limits the chance that you might lose your luggage in-between flight transfers.

So, what can you fit in your carry-on luggage that will make your trip that much more special? Keep reading and we’ll see. For additional tips check out my post on carry-on essentials for long-haul flights.

What To Wear in Dubai | Dubai Packing Tips For Female Travellers

Packing Appropriate Clothing In Dubai | What is acceptable clothing in Dubai?

The weather in Dubai is tropical so you should bring light clothing that breathes well. Otherwise, you may get uncomfortably hot. Depending on the time of year that you visit, the temperature can be anywhere between 25 degrees and 45 degrees. Just because its hot doesn’t mean you can get away with mini-skirts or revealing clothing in Dubai. You need to pack appropriate clothing for Dubai. So, what is acceptable clothing in Dubai? Religious buildings will have very strict rules about appropriate clothing before going in. Acceptable clothing in Dubai simply means modest. No #nipplegate type of clothing. No dress with too low cut that in the front or the back that either your boobs or butt are on show unless in the night club. Majority of what you can wear in London that is sleeveless or figure-hugging is fine as long as its not verging on revealing the body parts. You are in risky territory then.

If I am heading somewhere hot I tend to scope out linen/silk blend dresses as they are light and breathable or search for elegant midis and maxi dresses on  ASOS. Some these will be in the sale most of the time as don’t have great weather in the UK so I find that the majority of summer items tend to be in the sale frequently.

Dresses For Dubai | What Dresses Am I Not Allowed To Wear In Dubai?

Below is a widget with a couple of examples to illustrate dress for Dubai that you can easily wear with no problems at all. Again, with Dubai and UAE being a Muslim country, people tend to be apprehensive about what dresses they are not allowed to wear in Dubai when there is so much of what you wear in the west that is perfectly fine to wear in Dubai. You can still be on-trend and still be modestly dressed. So, when it comes to appropriate dress in Dubai, it is not so restrictive that you have to be scared.

What Is The Dress Code For Dubai For Tourists?

There isn’t a specific rule for tourist attire or a particular dress code for Dubai for tourist other than rules when entering religious buildings. Your arms have to be covered. No clevage and leggings. If you have something revealing you can always borough an abaya or cover otherwise will not be let in. Also, you have to cover your head. The rest of the building, offices and malls, all they ask is that you are modestly dressed. No bikini-clad outfits at the mall. You may get reported. As I said above about appropriate clothing in Dubai, its not so restrictive that you need to buy a whole new wardrobe just to visit Dubai.

Do You Have To Cover Up In Dubai?

The answer is no. You do not have to cover up in Dubai any more than you have to visiting London. The only places you have to cover up in Dubai are the mosques.

What To Wear in Dubai | Dubai Packing Tips For Female Travellers

What Clothes Should I Wear In Dubai? | What Do Women Wear In Dubai?

You can wear whatever clothes you want in Dubai as long as they don’t have any offensive logos, not too revealing then you are fine. What do women wear in Dubai? Dubai natives will mostly have the black abayas on top of their dress and will have the head covers too. For tourists in Dubai, you don’t have to wear an abaya, unless you want to. There are plenty of shops to buy one. There are cheap ones and there are luxury ones too. You can buy whichever your budget will allow. Again tourists don’t have cover up with an abaya. Tourist are simply expected to have clothes suitable for Dubai, that is modest and respectful of the culture.

Can You Wear Shorts In Dubai? | Is It Ok To Wear Shorts In Dubai?

The answer is yes, you can wear shorts in Dubai but this depends very much on the length of the shorts. If we are talking those short shorts where your butt cheeks are hanging out at the bottom, those can only be worn on the beach where bikinis are allowed with all other swimwear. If we are talking most longer shorts, you can definitely wear shorts in Dubai. Many of those that you can wear are shown in the widget below.

Dubai Outfits | What is the Dubai shopping mall dress code?

When it comes to Dubai outfits, what are the rules around Dubai shopping mall dress code? Everything I have said above applies. Just be comfortable and modest in your dress and you will be fine.

What To Wear In Dubai | Packing For Dubai Tourist Dress Code

  • Pack plenty of loose-fitting summer dresses for Dubai trip too not just because the country is conservative but because its hot!
  • Shorts are OK only in the tourist districts but can still cause stares
  • Loose fitting tops and pants, covered dresses, and skirts below the knees are always safe choices
  • Jeans that aren’t too tight, or if you have a longer top to wear over it
  • Sandals and flat shoes as you will be walking around the malls a lot.
  • Always pack a pashmina or scarf in your handbag for when you need to cover up if wearing short-sleeved or off shoulder outfits and need to enter conservative areas/buildings.
  • Pack a Summer hats as the sun in Dubai even in their winter(22-30 oC in Oct-Nov) can still be intense.

  • Pack a beautiful Embellished Kaftan that is both modern and stylish. You can cover up and still be stylish while abiding by Dubai dress code rules. Pair these up with a pair of leggings or skinny jeans and sandals and you are good to go.

  • Make sure you pack a good Suncream as well as pack the best travel skin care kit for your skin, as beautifully warm and toasty the sun is in Dubai you need to make sure you protect your skin. In addition to a holdall beach bag is a must. Accessorise has some beautiful beach bags on sale at the moment.
  • Full covering is required for entry to the mosques and some public buildings

These clothing options for your trip to Dubai will not only contribute to your hosts being friendlier, but they will keep you cool and protect your skin while you have a fabulous time exploring the City of Gold.

What to wear in Dubai

What To Wear In Dubai For Females? | Dubai Women’s Dress Code

So what is appropriate dress in Dubai, what can ladies wear in Dubai? Modesty is Key – If You Don’t Want Unwanted Attention. Dubai is a lot less restrictive than some of the other emirates. But it is still a majority Muslim country and therefore modesty is always key.

Beware that your idea of dressing ‘modestly’ may not be the same as those in Dubai. Acceptable dress code in UAE also differs between Emirates so bear that in mind especially if you are visiting other emirates on tour. Most tour guides will tell you or help you with coverings when visiting religious sights.

For Dubai tourist clothing, even in the tourist areas, which are even less restricted, certain standards of dress are not tolerated. And it gets really uncomfortable being continuously stared at because they don’t believe that you are appropriately dressed. Trust me. We know this all too well.

Malls, restaurants, and mosques will have the dress code in Dubai posted. This is generally shoulders covered and bottoms are below the knees. All will display Dubai women’s dress code and men’s dress code in Dubai.  Beachwear and club wear should not be used for everyday dress if you don’t want unwelcome stares. Keep your bikinis on the beach. Most hotels allow bikinis and swimwear but be sure to cover up on the way from your room to the book.

To show that you respect the culture, pack tops with sleeves for modesty as well as to protect you from the sun. Clothes that cover your neckline, knees, and shoulders are always safe bets. If you must wear an off-shoulder top then pack a scarf in your bag for when you enter malls and other sites that enforce the dress code so you can easily cover the shoulder. Also, try not to wear anything to revealing of the chest area.

Packing For The Desert, Beach And Malls

When planning a trip to Dubai the first question most women want an answer to what to wear in Dubai holiday. Well below is a guide on what to wear in Dubai malls, Dubai safari, traditional buildings and other occasions.

So, whether you are after desert safari Dubai dress code or in general Dubai women’s dress code, below gives you an idea of Dubai outfit and appropriate clothing for Dubai.

  • Beachwear In Dubai – Dubai Swimwear Rules

Dubai has many public and private beaches (beaches restricted to hotel guests) and Dubai beach wear will differ slightly if you are on private or public beaches. With public beaches, I would take a light Kaftan to cover up as most of these are frequented by locals and their families so you do have to be modest even on the beach when it blazing hot.

For beachwear in Dubai on private beaches attached to hotels, you are usually ok to wear whatever bikini and swimwear you want. Just bear in mind that if you have to go through the lobby to get to the beach, most will expect you to at least consider the guests and wear a beach cover-up, robe or another cover until you get to the beach. One the beaches of the hotel anything as far as bikinis go – apart from nudity! You don’t want to end up on banged up abroad.

  • Dress Code In Traditional Buildings

While scarfs are not essential headwear for everyday use, you should always walk with a scarf on you. Some buildings – especially traditional buildings and the mosques – will not allow you inside with an uncovered head. So, you will always be prepared for any impromptu attractions if you have a scarf on you.

Plus, scarfs help to protect you from the dangers of the sun.

  • Dress Code In The Desert – What To Wear On a Desert Safari

The desert safari dubai dress code: So, what to wear in Dubai desert safari? Stargazing in the desert is one of the most fun activities to do in Dubai. This is especially romantic if you are going on vacation with a partner. But temperatures in the desert can drop below -0.

Make sure to pack a light jacket or cardigan to ward off any chills at night. The desert is also windy so be careful of shorter clothing. You can pack a beautiful embellished Kaftan,  for a photo op. You can also find beautiful kaftans on Amazon too. You should also consider having leggings under your skirts or dresses, or jeans as it does get cold in the evenings. They protect your skin from the harshness of the sand.

  • What To Wear In Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. It is also only about an hour and a half from Dubai. So, you may want to visit. But, they are considered much more conservative than Dubai.

For clothes to wear in Abu Dhabi, conservative dress is especially important if you want to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque outside of Abu Dhabi. Both Get Your Guide and Viator have great day tours from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. I have also shared the details of how get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

  • What To Wear In Dubai nightclubs

Believe it or not, Dubai does have nightclubs! So when it comes to what to wear in Dubai nightclubs, the dress code is actually stricter for men that it is for women. Women can wear pretty much anything they want whereas men cannot turn up in jeans, flip-flops, shorts or vests in some cases. While women can wear whatever they want to Dubai nightclubs, just be mindful of the in-between – between your accommodation and nightclub.

I would invest in a very light duster coat for times when you think your dress might be on a fine line of too short and too revealing. The Dubai nightclubs don’t care so much its the areas people along the way whose attention you may draw. Considering how hot Dubai is, duster coats are super light and allow you to cover a little bit, especially if visiting clubs that may be in places like Deira where you may not want to get the wrong attention.

  • What To Were For Brunch In Dubai

It’s always recommended to have a nice outfit and dress shoes when you go on vacation. After all, even if you didn’t plan on any fancy dinners, you never know where you might end up. Since we are talking about traveling as light as possible, make sure the shoes you carry can go well with multiple outfits.

Dubai food experiences are rich and plentiful from Afternoon tea at Burj Al Arab to Dubai Marina cruise with buffet, to a luxury dining experience in the Burj Khalifa. So be sure to pack a few nice dresses in Dubai and clothing options that allow you to look stylish at a moment’s notice.
