Fares are dynamic like air fares, very cheap if you book in advance but much more expensive if you buy close to departure day. For example, Paris to Amsterdam starts at €35 bought several months in advance (no refunds, no changes to travel plans), but costs a whopping €130 for a fully-flexible ticket if you wait and buy on the day. The most expensive fares usually allow changes and refunds, but the cheaper fare levels mean no refunds & no changes to travel plans. If you plan to travel around Europe in a grand tour or if you are going to be traveling across vast distances and don’t want to fly, getting a rail pass is your best money-saving travel option. Bla Bla Car

One of the most popular systems in place for budget travelers in Europe is the Bla Bla Car system. It is an app that you can download on your phone, which allows you to contact people who are going through the same route as you, so you join them and share the expenses. For example, if you wanted to travel from Paris to Lyon, you can search for the date and the trip in the app and all the drivers who are planning to do that same trip will appear, along with their profile, reviews, how much you they charge for the trip, etc. Prices are usually around € 7 or € 10 for medium-distance journeys, which makes it an excellent way to travel cheaply in Europe.

Bus

Travelling by bus is usually a lot cheaper than by train or plane. One of the biggest advantages of choosing a bus is that prices don’t vary greatly or not at all, no matter when you buy it. You can often even purchase it from the driver once you get on the bus. This advantage is similar to having the ‘Eurail’ rail pass.

Mobile Phone Data When Visiting Europe

This means you don’t have to worry about buying a phone or a local sim card in each country. This change applies in 31 destinations: the 28 countries of the European Union, plus the European Economic Area (EEA) nations of Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. Still, there are some things to be aware of. Make sure you read my post on what to bring when travelling to Europe. If you are visiting from Canada, USA, China, India or any country outside the EU and bring your own phone, you will be charged by your phone company in your country. Particularly if you are visiting more than one country in Europe I would strongly advise you to buy a sim card in Europe and that way you can use it for many other countries in Europe with no additional charge.

Money

The euro is a shared currency among many European countries, which makes it easier for travelers, as you don’t have to worry about exchanging money everywhere you go. Within the European Union, the euro is the dominant currency used. Countries that use the euro are: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.

Although many countries have adopted the euro, many countries still use their own currency. So, before exchanging all your cash into Euros, check what currencies the countries you are going to use. Countries with own currencies are: Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, FYR Macedonia, Moldova, Hungary, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Poland, Norway, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and United Kingdom.

Same currency – different prices

When it comes to travel advice for Europe currency and money, even in countries that use the euro, prices can still vary significantly – these are different countries after all, with different economies. A bottle of water in the centre of Paris may cost you more than the local village store in southern Italy. This seems obvious but it can come as a surprise if you’re making fleeting stops as part of a bigger trip so it’s a good idea to keep this in mind when planning your budget, especially when it comes to expenses that are much bigger than a bottle of water.

ATM fees

When possible, withdraw cash from bank-run ATMs located just outside that bank. Ideally use the machine during the bank’s opening hours, so you can go inside for help if your card is munched. Bank ATMs usually do not charge usage fees and are generally more secure.

Many European banks place their ATMs in a small entry lobby, which protects users from snoopers. To get in, look for a credit-card-size slot next to the door and insert your card.

Avoid “independent” ATMs, such as Travelex, Euronet, Moneybox, Your Cash, Cardpoint, and Cashzone. These have high fees and may try to trick users with “dynamic currency conversion.” Note that these “independent” ATMs are often found next to bank ATMs in the hope that travelers will be too confused to notice the difference. Their mahcines may even have signs that scream “Free Cash Withdrawals” — don’t believe it.

Tourist traps and how to avoid them

This section will cover things I would put in a ‘things I wish I knew before travelling to Europe’ category to help you avoid being scammed or to cover safety when travelling in Europe.

Restaurants

If your budget allows it, treat yourself and eat in a restaurant after an exciting day out. However, we suggest you avoid those near the top attractions, as they tend to be a lot more expensive. Walk around a bit and look for establishments further away from touristy places with simple tables and menus without huge photos of food. A low-cost alternative is to buy a baguette, a piece of cheese with a bottle of water or wine, and have a picnic in front of the Tuileries Gardens or admiring London Bridge, for example.

A restaurant with a trustworthy reputation offering typical food does not need five workers inviting you to enter. Whenever you encounter this sort of situation, it is a good reason to be suspicious.

Tip: Before leaving your accommodation or, if you have internet anywhere in town, just open Google maps. You’ll find suggestions and quickly see the top-ranked restaurants. From a 4.2 onwards they are really good. And if they have predominantly locals’ reviews, even better.

Taxi scams

Famous tourist scam involves taxi fares. Some travelers recommend being beware of taxi fares. That goes for rides both to and from the airport. In the past, there have been reports of drivers demanding obscene fees to tourists. How do they do it? They either are not running the meter or taking a ridiculously long route to your destination.

Major tourist trap in Venice

A lot of tourists are attracted to taking the gondola rides in Venice. But these gondolas are highly overpriced, captained by someone dressed like an Italians to fit the tourist’s imaginations. Instead of a gondola take a much cheaper traghetto, that locals use to get across the canals.

How to avoid tourist traps in specific locations?

Do more research! Check local forums, ask expats, ask locals if you know the language. If you don’t know anyone to ask, search for expat blogs on Google.
Don’t assume that because it is Europe, every city is safe. This is simply not the case. Be aware of your surroundings and your belongings at all times, and use some common sense. You don’t have to be tense all the time, simply be confident and trust your instinct.
Learn some basic phrases in that language / speak with the locals. Nowadays, many travelers speak English. However, speaking in the local language shows you have respect and interest for their culture. This will lead to the fact that locals take you more seriously. If you really wish to know a culture, its language and its people, you’ve to be on the same level as the people who can show and teach you more about their culture. Also, you will be less likely to be fooled.

Book in advance

The Perfect Amsterdam Brussels and Paris Itinerary – 2 Weeks In Europe

Planning a trip to Europe? A trip to Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris is a must! These are among popular destinations in Europe come summer or winter. With that in mind, below is the perfect Amsterdam Brussels Paris itinerary. These cities eminent beauty and have attractions that draw millions of people from around the globe each year.

There is everything one would want to visit such as history, modernism, beautiful architecture or just a relaxing time away from the usual routine. Here is 10 days visit plan to Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.

Europe By Rail – Perfect Amsterdam Brussels and Paris Itinerary

Day 1: Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a beautiful capital of the Netherland and central hub of the country with much more to offer. This small magical city is rich of ancient history with many famous tourist attractions. So, buckle up and get ready to explore!

As soon as you land in Amsterdam, commence your day with a cup of coffee. As there is so much to visit in a limited time. From its world-famous canals, antiquated churches, majestic museums there’s an overwhelming number of tourist attractions.

World-Famous Canals

Informally known as “Venice of the North” because of its beautiful canals across the city, Amsterdam is a place worth visiting. Herengracht, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht are the three main grachtens around the city which were dug in 17^th century during the Dutch Golden Age. Along side the main canals are splendid building making the tour overwhelming for you.

Herengracht Canal

Begin your day with one of the loveliest canals of Amsterdam, the Herengracht canal. This offers you the chance to see the interesting and beautiful architecture of many of the buildings. You will be bewildered at how old some of the buildings are, yet the beauty still exists. A visit to the grachten is certainly one of the highlights of any visit to Amsterdam.

Keizersgracht Canal

Keizersgracht canal also known as the Emperor’s canal is the widest canal in Amsterdam. It was named after Emperor Maximilian of Austria and the oldest part of this canal joins the Brouwersgracht (Brewer’s Canal). Winters add to the beauty of this canal and as soon as the ice gets thick enough people can skate on the Keizersgracht. Beautiful, Idyllic views and bridges all along the Emperor’s Canal makes the tour to Amsterdam a worthy one.

Prinsengracht Canal

Prinsengracht canal along with the Herengracht and the Keizersgracht canals forms the Amsterdam´s Canal Ring and this ring was declared as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in 2010. Prinsengracht is also known as Prince’s canal was named after the Prince of Orange and is the fourth longest canal in Amsterdam. There are several beautiful canal houses along the canal and most of them were built during the Dutch Golden Age. Amsterdam’s tallest church, the Westerkerk, the Noorderkerk (Northern Church) and Anne Frank House are some of the eminent buildings alongside the Prinsengracht canal.

The Canal Cruises

In order to see the amazing Amsterdam, including the magnificent architecture and glorifying history, the Canal Cruises offers you the best and easy way. For this all you have to do is to buy the online ticket, select the canal boat tour of your choice and enjoy the trip in the best possible way. Day 2: Amsterdam

Keukenhof Flower Exhibition

If you are planning a trip to Amsterdam between mid-March to mid-May, then you would get an amazing chance to experience millions of blooming tulips and other bulb flowers. A fabulous chance for individuals of all ages and an awesome exhibition to capture. The exhibition is a staggering presentation of flowers in an excellent setting covering a region of 32 hectares. The flowers are unique and are a feast for the eyes.

Magnificent Museums

No Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris trip would be complete within checking out cool museums. Among more than seventy magnificent museums in Amsterdam, the Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museums are a must-see place of Amsterdam.

Van Gogh Museum

Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam is named after a renowned artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). It is among one of the 25 most famous museums in the world, enticing more than 1.6 million tourists every year. The museum consists of world’s largest work collection of this artist including his more than 200 paintings, 500 drawings and letters, completed with the art of his contemporaries. Recently in 2015, the new glass entrance hall was added to the museum at the back of its building. Those who are not a fan of Vincent van Gogh can admire the modern main architecture of the museum that was designed by Gerrit Rietveld.

The Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House is in the central Amsterdam, located on the Prinsengracht canal. The house is a biographical museum where a wartime diarist Anne Frank lived for two years and one month hidden from the Nazi’s. Her handwritten diary became and important piece of history. Today this house has grasped tourist’s attraction and people come to see the house where Anna Frank once lived.

Explore Vondel Park

If you are visiting Amsterdam in summer months there will likely be events in Vondel Park. Either the place is just to beautiful to miss. We love exploring around and grabbing a coffee at one of the cafes within the park or if visiting the city for longer I highly recommend having a picnic here while there are musical events happening around.

Day 3: Amsterdam to Brussels

Average Duration and Cost of Train Tickets

There are 2 options by land to travel from Amsterdam to Brussels, either by bus or the train. The latter one is better both economically and scenery wise. The average time taken from Amsterdam to Brussels is 2 hours 45 minutes and each ticket costs around 30-35 euros, check train times and prices on Omio.

Thalys High-Speed Train

If you are not a fan of long rides, then you can hop on the Thalys high-speed train which can take up to only 1 hour 50 minutes. Thalys high-speed train travels at speeds of 300 km/hour and connects Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris along with 14 other cities across Western Europe.

But the ticket if expensive for high-speed train as compared to the economy class, which is a trade-off for the quick journey. If you want to make your journey a memorable one, then going through the economy class would be a suitable option. You may take an hour longer, yet you will enjoy the scenery while reading your favorite book and taking a sip of your hot coffee. You may also get a chance to interact with different and interesting people during your journey.

Light Exploration of Brussels

After arriving at Brussels, it is better to eat something light from a nearby restaurant and do some light exploring. But first, check in your hotel, freshen up a bit and remove all the weariness to fully enjoy your day in Brussels. Followed by little exploration of the city, before continuing the itinerary below.

Pro Tip: I highly recommend staying on Louise Avenue in Brussels as you have everything here, from cool cafes, great shopping and a short walk to tourist attractions. This is where we have chosen to stay on many an occasion and I love the trendy vibe.

Day 4: Brussels

The second city on the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris itinerary. Brussels is a wonderful city with boulevards lined with shops and bistros all offering a portion of the world’s best beers and chocolates combined with a rich history and delightful design. It’s a city packed with tourism spots, so it would be hard to stay and give attention to all the detail. Yet your target would be to make the most out of it. So to start:

The Grand-Place of Brussels

The Grand Place of Brussels was built in 15^th century and is a huge city square completely encircled by elegant historic buildings. In 1998, it was registered on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO and is considered as one of the most beautiful places worldwide. The beauty of the square lies in the architecture of several buildings that make up the Grand Place including the Museum of the City of Brussels and the Town Hall.

The Museum of the City of Brussels was previously known as the Duke’s building holds interesting exhibitions about the history and geography of the city. While the Town Hall is around 100 meters high and has a stunning statue at the top of the building of Saint Michael killing a demon.

Manneken Pis

The next stop should be the famous fountain in Brussels, the Manneken Pis. It is a 17^th century bronze statue showing a naked little boy peeing into a fountain’s basin. Based on the events the little boy is a dressed accordingly and his wardrobe consists of more than 900 suits. In the beginning this fountain played a vital role in the former distribution of drinking water. Later it became a symbol of Brussels tradition and a famous tourist attraction.

Pro Tip: Consider getting the Brussels Card as this includes free admission to over 41 museums across the Belgian capital. You also get to enjoy fantastic discounts at a selection of shops and restaurants. You can choose between 24-, 48-, or 72-hour card to suit your schedule.

Day 5: Brussels

Mini Europe

While starting the next day in Brussels one desires to see the whole city but is unable to, that’s why it is better to mark Mini Europe on the top of your list. Mini Europe is a miniature park with Europe’s landmarks created on a smaller scale, all from Big Ben to the Eiffel tower. This brings you the opportunity to make a tour around Europe in merely a few hours. One can see all the famous monuments, cities and cultures of Europe in Miniature at this place. Nearby you also have the beautiful Atomium which very much a must-see in Brussels as well.

Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert

For those who love shopping, Royal gallery of Saint Hubert is the best place to visit. Moreover, while enjoying your visit in Brussels you certainly would want to buy some souvenirs. For that the best place is this big shopping arcade right in the heart of Brussels. It is an upscale marketplace with a glass ceiling and includes everything from markets, food and cinema. Built in 1847, the magnificence remains the same even after almost 150 years.

Museum of Cocoa and Chocolate

For chocolate and sweet lover, one of the best places to visit in Brussels is the Museum of cocoa and chocolate. A small museum featuring chocolate-related exhibits. Moreover, a chance to experience live demonstrations with master chocolatier giving you the feeling of real Charlie and the Chocolate factory. As the day comes to an end and with limited choices left, paying a visit to this museum would a worthy one.

Day 6: Brussels to Paris

Average Duration and Cost of Train Tickets

The average time of travel between Brussels and Paris is around 1 hour 54 minutes while the quickest route is 1 hour 22 minutes. On average 27 trains travel between Brussels and Paris. The very first trains every day leaves at 6:13 am in the morning from Bruxelles midi station, Brussels. The train ticket for this journey is between 14 to 29 euros, depending on the type of train you are choosing. You can check the schedule online via Omio which shows options for buses, trains and flights all in one.

Fastest and Slowest Train Options

For the fastest journey between Brussels and Paris, Thalys High-Speed Train is the best option. Travelling at 300 km/hour the train takes only 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Paris.

While for those who are willing to enjoy the view of the countryside, slower or connecting train could be a better option. This option may take slightly longer than the fastest train options but gives you the best chance to enjoy the view throughout your journey.

Light Exploring of Paris In the Evening

Once you reach the city of love, make sure to explore the beauty in evening, if you are up for a little drink check out a couple of these bars which also offer amazing views of Paris. Prior to starting the real journey through Paris, this slight exploration will let you take a break from the day’s travels yet enjoy the city before tomorrow’s exploring.

Pro Tip: I recommend booking a Paris hotel with a balcony or any hotel with amazing views of the Eiffel Tower, that way, if you arrive in the evening and are too tired to head out you, can simply order some room service and chill out with a drink on your very own balcony.

Day 7: Paris

The last leg of your Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris vacation. Paris is a beautiful capital of France and is relatively smaller than most of the capitals around the world. With considerable sights and museums within walking distance of each other, there is so much to discover in every hidden corner. The city is viewed as a standout amongst the most powerful urban areas in Europe. During your trip to Paris, look at the amazing landmarks that I have no doubt been circling through your imagination for years. Start with:

Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower is among one of the 7 Wonders of the World and is named after the engineer Alexandar Gustave Eiffel, a man who designed and built the tower with the help of his company. Eiffel tower is the most visited payed monument of the world and is the tallest tower in Paris. The best part among the 3 stories of this tower is the third level, which brings you the chance to experience the stunning 360 degrees view of the city of Paris. The other two levels consist of restaurants and food courts.

Pro Tip: If you are up for an early start I highly recommend sunrise in Paris on Trocadero.

Louvre Museum

Another wonderful place to visit in Paris is the world’s largest museum, the Louvre Museum. It’s one of the city’s biggest tourist attraction and is a house for the most impressive art collections in history. Sitting along the banks of the Seine River in Paris, the museum includes ancient Greek and Roman sculptures, Egyptian antiques, crown jewels and other artifacts from French nobles. A place attracting tourist from all around the world.

Les Deux Plateaux

These beautiful and famous black and white pillars, Les Deux Plateaux, more commonly known as the Colonnes de Buren are not to be missed on any itinerary. They are a short walk from the Louvre. For additional details check out my post on Colonnes de Buren.

Jardin du Palais Royal

From the pillars, nearby is Jardin du Palais Royal. Paris just like London has beautiful parks that are just as much a must-see as the buildings and the art within them. If you have time I would recommend checking out

Musée d’Orsay

From Jardin du Palais, if the weather is good, I recommend walking back towards the Louvre and stop by Louvre – Tuileries. You only need a few minutes maybe 30 minutes in the gardens and continue walking and cross over the bridge at Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor. On the other side of the River Seine is Musee d’Orsay which has not only amazing art and exhibitions but that beautiful clock is not to be missed!

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris & Shakespeare & Company

From Musee d’Orsay, you can either walk or take the metro to Cite or Odeon. From here you have three places to check out and depending on how much time you want to spend at each I would suggest a quick peek at Jardin du Luxembourg then head walk towards Shakespeare and Company. This iconic, bi-level independent bookstore has been around since 1951 and very much worth stopping by before dedicating the rest of the afternoon to Notre Dame Cathedral and surrounding areas. If you need to refresh or snack I recommend checking out Place Dauphine. This is a tranquil green square with cafés & galleries. Actors Yves Montand & Simone Signoret lived at no.15 if you are a but of a movie buff.

Cruise on The River Seine For The Evening

End your trip to Paris by enjoying a cruise on the River Seine. This ride will give you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view of the “City of Light” along with a lovely dinner while cruising. In the evening, when the sun sets and monuments all around lit up slowly, the beauty of Paris lightens up. One can enjoy the scene from cruise perspective to the fullest while equally enjoying the dinner.

Day 9: Paris

Cafe With A View

No itinerary is complete without checking out at least one Parisian cafe. One I highly recommend you not miss is the lovely Printemps Deli-Cieux with the department store. Grab a coffee and a croissant and chill to the views. This little hidden gem offers amazing views to not only of the Eiffel Tower but also Sacré Coeur which is located in central-northern Paris, in the heart of the Montmartre.

Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe standing at the heart of the Place de l’Étoile is a massive triumphal arch in Paris. This arc was constructed in 1806, after the great victory of Napoleon at the Battle of Austerlitz. Now the Arc de Triomphe globally serves as an iconic symbol of France. Its beautiful architectural design entices visitors from around the world.

Pro Tip: If you love a good view, we had an amazing stay on Champs Elysees with views of Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.

Free Exploring In Montmartre

Take the rest of the day and explore this beautiful village in Paris. Montmartre is full of charm! Perched on the top of a small hill in the 18th arrondissement, the most famous Parisian district has lost none of its village atmosphere. Explore the market, the cute little independent shops, and when you get tired swing by steep streets of the Butte, with plenty of terrace bistros to choose from. You have an amazing array of restaurants in the area to choose from. Grab a table and do a little people watching as you dine.

This whole area of Paris is just to beautiful to miss. Explore at leisure with no set plans and when ready, head back to your hotel and get ready for the day trip to Versailles.

Day 10: Versailles Day Trip from Paris

Without any exaggeration, Palace of Versailles is one of the most magical places on the planet earth. This beauty attracts more than 10 million tourists from all around the world.

Hall of Mirrors is the most spectacular room of the palace, with 357 mirrors reflecting the light off. he Clock Room. Another room named as The Clock Room, consists of a 250 years room. This technical wonder features a working model of the solar system apart from just showing the time, date and even the phases of the moon. Followed by a breathtakingly beautiful chapel, The Royal Chapel. This is one of the five other chapels in the palace yet the architectural design of this one is incomparably amazing.

How to Get There The Palace of Versailles and The Tickets Price

There are several guided tours available and the price start from €32. Depending on the type of tour you opt for, the price may vary. The Palace of Versailles is an hour away from city of Paris and one way to get there is through the Versailles Express coach. The coach leaves from the Eiffel Tower two times a day.

Tips For The Trip

Don’t plan you trip for Mondays, as the palace is closed on Mondays
Keep in mind the visitor’s hours i.e. 9:00am to 5:30pm, so that you can be there in time
Make you come for a whole day and you have enough time. Since the Palace is big and if you intend to see everything you have enough time to do so.
Make sure you have all the essential items to bring to Europe. Thinks like power banks, converters.
Europe has beautifully walkable streets and in combination with great transporation, easy to explore. Just make sure you come with comfortable walking shoes and if visiting in the summer pack some walking sandals for exploring.

Alternative Itineraries

If you have more time you can also add London to this itinerary and switch it up to London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels itinerary.
Another option would be adding not only London but Bruge while you are in Brussels. Something along the lines of Paris Brussels, Bruges Amsterdam itinerary but would require at a minimum 2 weeks in Europe.
If you have more time you can also add a trip to visit the beautiful and colourful villages outside Amsterdam, like Keukenhof Gardens or a Tulip Tour.

Happy New Year!! So, let’s talk a little bit about what cherry blossom trees are and why they are so popular. You may have come across these beautiful pink (or white) blooms already, which normally signal the start of spring. But have you ever wondered about their history?

There is more to these magnificent flowers than meets the eye. The most well-known species of cherry blossom is the Japanese cherry, which is commonly called Sakura (桜) and is one of the most important plants in Japan.

These trees have powerful ties with Japanese religion, history, culture and identity. Adding to their magic and mystique, the Sakura are usually in full bloom for a very short time, compared to other trees and plants.

Cherry blossoms are flowers that remind one of the beauty – and fragility – of life, as the falling petals are said to be a symbol of fleeting beauty in life. The mentioned trees have quickly gained popularity outside of Japan and are nowadays well known for their radiant, delicate and transient beauty all across the globe, and have also been planted in various places throughout Europe.

Seeing these Cherry Blossoms in all their beauty is a spectacular experience. In Japan, “Hanami” is the name given to the practice of eating and drinking to welcome the arrival of spring and enjoy the warm spring weather anywhere the gently falling cherry blossoms can be found, such as parks or by the riverside.

The good news is, you too can experience and celebrate Hanami, and you don’t even have to travel as far as Japan! As mentioned above, there are a few cities where you can observe these magical trees in Europe. 10 Beautiful Places(Besides Japan) To See Cherry Blossoms In Europe That Will Surprise You

The timing of cherry blossom or sakura in Europe varies and it is hard to predict exactly, but in this article, you will find out during which periods the chances of blooming are the highest. Just to be sure though, you may want to check for an update on that specific place just before your trip to Europe. Okay, now that you know a little bit about why they are so important, let’s look at where you can witness their beauty with your own eyes!

BUDAPEST

First on the list, Budapest. There are a few places where you can find ornamental flowering cherries in the Hungarian capital. A European spring in Budapest brings beautiful blooms across the city.

Gellért Hill

A site that provides great postcard views of blooming beauty. To get there, hop on public transport to Szent Gellert Hill and walk up the hill where you see a large cross. There’s a cherry tree next to it, and if you walk upright to it, a spectacular view will open.

Füvészkert (25 Illés Street, 1083, Budapest)

The oldest and one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the whole country. Have a picnic under cherry blossoms as you admire the scenery here at your own time, or attend the annual Cherry Blossom Festival which takes place in early – mid-April. Visitors can spend a weekend celebrating traditional Japanese art and culture, including origami and calligraphy exhibitions. Authentic Japanese tea is served and there are plenty of programmes to keep the little ones engaged. Learn more about Japanese culture surrounded by the Sakura in this botanical oasis away from the bustling city center… Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

If you’re looking for a nice spot on the Buda side to admire the captivating flowers of the Sakura, take a stroll through Tóth Árpád Sétány, which is a wonderful promenade in the Castle District not far from Matthias’church and Fisherman’s Basiton, while at the same time enjoying the beautiful view over Buda. Basically, there will be two things pleasing your sight at the same time!

Margaret Island

A popular recreational area stretching for around 2.5 km on the river Danube. It can easily be accessed by the historical Margaret Bridge on the south and the Arpad Bridge in the north. The Japanese Garden on Margaret Island’s northern end is one of Budapest’s most delightful places. Sometimes, the Tea School from Kyoto comes and holds traditional tea ceremonies here. Definitely one of the most proper and unique locations to discover the real beauty of Japanese cherry trees?

When to see them: depends on the weather. If March is warm, cherry trees could bloom as early as mid-March. If March is cold – and it usually is – April is more likely.

LONDON

Next up, London. There are many locations in this big city and some of London’s best parks, that will make you feel almost like you’re in Japan. II have shared a posts showcasing the European cherry tree including that from our picnic in St James’ park which also has plenty of Cherry Blossoms in London.

Regent’s Park

I have covered the cool and secret place to find in Regents Park but, cnce you enter through Chester’s Road entrance, you will immediately notice a beautiful alley with tall Sakura trees on both of it sides. As the sun casts rays of sun on the cherry blossoms, you will not resist wanting to catch the beauty of the moment by taking a picture or two.

Greenwich Park

There are plenty of things to do in Greenwich and just behind the cricket ground in Greenwich Park, there is a road with Sakura trees planted along it that leads to a Georgian villa known as the Ranger House. The intertwined branches of flowering trees create a cotton candy-like arch that transforms your photos into a work of art.

Kew Gardens

This botanical paradise in London is in bloom from mid-April until the end of the month. Finding the Sakura here is easier than anywhere else – Kew Gardens have a very own cherry promenade, which begins at the Rose’s Garden, considered to be home to the Japanese cherry blossoms in London. Two rows of blooming trees form a pretty pink path toward the Temperate House, the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse.

We picked what we thought were the best locations, but you can also find cherry blossoms at St. James’s Park in Westminster, Kensington Gardens, Alexandra’s Palace, near St. Paul’s Cathedral and Kyoto Garden in Holland Park.

When to see them: Generally, April is cherry blossom month in London. But the blooms can appear as early as March — and last as late as May. If it’s been a mild spring, blossom arrives earlier.

STOCKHOLM

Kungsträdgården

Perhaps the best place to see the Sakura blossoms. An annual Japanese festival also takes place at Kungsträdgården in mid-April, with craft stands and snack stalls setting up just beneath the trees. It’s free to wander through the park – this also means a higher number of tourists and locals gather in the area at this time than during the days when there are no festivities. Luckily, there are other places to enjoy the gorgeous colour of these beauties.

Bysistorget, Hornsgatan

200 meters from the heart of Mariaberget, there is an elegant oriental garden with Bonsai Trees that perfectly complement the Japanese cherry blossoms in the middle of the city.

The Luma Park

You’ll find around 50 of the gorgeous pink trees (and none of the crowds) at Lumaparken, just southeast of the city centre in Hammarby Sjöstad. To get there, take bus 74 from Skanstull, or take a short ride on the Tvärbanan from the city center directly to the center of the Luma Park, where you will find yourself surrounded by the Sakura immediately after you get off at the stop.

Humlegården Park

And if all the already mentioned locations won’t satisfy your needs, there is also Humlegården Park. One of the biggest parks in the city center, also home to cherry blossom trees that will make your time there magical.

When to see them: The official Day of the Cherry Blossom is on April 28th, but the trees can start blooming from as early as late March.

FRANKFURT

While it may seem like a surprising choice, Frankfurt is actually a great place to see cherry blossom trees and celebrate the beginning of Spring in Germany.

Main River

Cherry trees bloom at the Main River in Frankfurt am Main. Grab a cup of coffee or some delicious gelato and go for a stroll along the river, you will be amazed by the beauty of lines of the blossoms here.

Bethmann Park

As you walk through an ornamental gate in Bethmann Park in the east of the city, you are transported to a different world. Imagine the sun shining, birds singing, ducks chattering, and the cherry blossoms waiting just waiting to be admired in their full beauty.

When to see them: early March through April

PARIS

Even though there is no official festival held to honour these trees in Paris, there are a lot of them scattered throughout the city during the time of their bloom.

Jardins du Trocadéro / Trocadéro Gardens

While Trocadero might offer a great place to watch the Parisian Sunrise, here you have the opportunity to enjoy the view of cherry blossoms with the Eiffel Tower in the background. These blossoms are some of the first to blossom (around the end of March) and longest lasting (through to the middle of April) in the city.

Near Notre Dame

Despite Notre Dame being under construction since the fire, it is still an important location, surrounded by a picturesque park on its eastern and western sides, which is a popular Sakura watching spot.

Jardin Des Plantes

One of the world’s leading botanical gardens, offering the widest variety of flowers, plants and trees which can be admired in Paris. And of course, it is also home to cherry blossoms. Here they are in bloom for a shorter period than in most places, often only for a few days. Choose this option for experiencing the cherry blossoms along with a big variety of other plants!

Square Gabriel Pierné

A peaceful corner with unique benches, located just behind the Institute de France, a few steps away from the Pont des Arts. A good option for cherry blossom experience if you want to avoid the crowds.

Petite Palais

A handful of cherry blossoms, along with palm trees and fountains, a lovely place to visit. Grab a cup of coffee and sit on the bench surrounded by the trees in tranquility, watching as the passengers go by.

When to see them: From late March to early April

AMSTELVEEN IN HOLLAND (NEAR AMSTERDAM)

Kersenbloesempark (Cherry Blossom Park) at the Amsterdamse Bos is the best place to see cherry trees blossom in Holland. The 400 Sakura trees that stand at the Kersenbloesempark were gifted by the Japan’s Women’s Club in 2000. The cherry Blossom Festival takes place here every year, but it is a rather exclusive event, so it may be better to pick a random day in April and organize your own picnic under a cherry tree of your choice.

It is important to choose the right time to visit, you can keep an eye on this page which announces the time of the festival, which is a good guideline for when it is the best time to see the blossoms, of course it can be within a week’s window or so.

Getting to Kersenbloesempark from Amsterdam is about an hour-long journey. If you travel by public transport, you should get a bus to Amstelveen (the 347/348 leaves from Museumplein) and then walk just over a kilometer towards the woods. The park is easy to find and locals would help you with a smile on their face. Amstelveen is actually a cute town to explore, so you may want to take that into account when deciding whether to go. There are so many cherry trees here that it almost creates a tiny cherry blossom forest! What can be better than that?!

Alternatively, if you don’t feel like travelling outside of Amsterdam (although it is worth it!), you could visit Wester Park in Amsterdam, where you can also picnic and take picture on a pink carpet laid by the light pink petals and imagine you’re in a fairytale for a little while.

When to see them: Mid-March to early-April

EDINBURGH

The Meadows

Pack a picnic and go have it at the Meadows, a large public park in Edinburgh’s south is an absolute must, with avenues here lined with heavily laden trees. Have the best lunch ever as you soak in the pink scenery or stroll along the avenues of cherry blossoms.

Princes St. Gardens

An enchanting place, nestled in the shadow of 12^thcentury castle, and divided into eastern and western sections by William Playfair’s monumental galleries on the Mound, the gardens have flower displays that are legendary. Observe them in blossom towards Edinburgh Castle – an unforgettable image that will stay with you forever.

When to see them: From late March to April or even early May.

BONN

Heerstrasse

A long arch of big pink boughs over a cobblestone street, makes you feel like the blossoms are in a way shielding you from the rain or anything that may come from the sky, they create a magical image. Heerstrasse is located in the Nordstadt neighborhood which is also home to the famous Beethoven House. It is relatively easy to find as the city center is walkable, and the public transportation network is well developed. Also, the locals will be able to tell you where to find the avenue as it is popularly known as the Cherry Blossom Avenue.

When to see them: April to early May

ZAGREB

King Tomislav’s Square by the Art Pavilion

Among many cool things to do in Zagreb is checking out what this city looks like in Spring. In this elegant square in the centre of the city, one end is overlooked by the grand central train station, and at the other end stands the majestic 19th-century Art Pavilion.

Šulekova Street

A handful of cherry trees tucked away from the city center on this lesser-known street, where you can take photos without fearing of other tourists photobombing. Also, it is a great opportunity to explore Zagreb’s neighborhood that you normally wouldn’t choose to go to, if it weren’t for the blossoms (definitely the most important thing though).

BERLIN

Mauer Weg

You can find two avenues of cherry blossoms along a section of where the Berlin Wall once stood, gifted by the Japanese when the wall came down. The trail is called the “Mauer Weg”. One is located around Lichterfelde Süd Station and the other around Bornholmer Straße.

Here is how to find it: after exiting the S-Bahn station, walk down Holtheimer Weg. You will pass a playground on the right-hand side with some cherry blossoms, but this is not it. Eventually continue west along Holtheimer Weg until it’s about to curve. At this point, you will aready see the cherry blossoms, which continue as far as the eye can see in both directions.

A ‘Hanami’ festival is held on the Berlin Wall Trail usually towards the end of April, Berlin’s longest cherry tree avenue every Spring between Teltow and Lichterfelde which combines art, culture and crafts.

However, these are not the only Sakura trees in Berlin. Here come other locations where you can find more of them, and even attend a festival:

Gärten der Welt (Gardens of the World)

Located in the Marzahn neighbourhood in East Berlin, it is a piece of paradise within the city. As you can probably already tell from its name, this is a place where you can experience different cultures in the form of a garden, as it is home to various small gardens from different countries.

The garden hosts a cherry blossom festival every spring. Check this website for the timing of the festival for the particular year.

When to see them: April to May, depending on weather.

There you go, these are the best places to see the Sakura trees in Europe, a lot of them! So, you see? It is not necessary to spend lots of money or worry about whether you will be able to have long vacations to go to Japan to see these magnificent trees and their blossoms! You can experience a little bit of Japan in any of these cities, and still have an undoubtedly amazing experience.

On a final note, cherry blossoms are a reminder for us, to pay attention to the small things as we live in the ever-fleeting moments, so we should appreciate the small details that aren’t going to stay around forever, and because of that, make life more wonderful.

I love a multi-city itinerary trip, so this post is done in mind with those like me who like to get their money’s worth.

The perfect London and Paris itinerary for 6-7 days. The first city is London and the second is Paris, deeply different but they both have so much beauty to tell.

London is a pomegranate. Sweet, sour, juicy, a fruit to be shelled. Impossible to eat it all together. London is evasive: it escapes definitions.

Every time you exit from the tube (metro), it’s a different city. In this Paris and London itinerary guide, you will find some tips for visiting London in 3 days before taking the Eurostar to Paris.

Particularly perfect especially if it’s your first time visiting the two cities. I have also shared a one day London itinerary for those short on time as well as tips on the best areas to stay in London for first-time visitors.

What To See In London In 3 days

Keep calm and have a cuppa: it is normal to feel lost. How do you organize an itinerary when there are so many things to see?

When visiting a city full of places of interest like London, the important thing is not to get caught up in the desire to see everything.

You will never succeed, especially if the time at your disposal is limited. First things first, for tips on getting to central London from Heathrow airport, Gatwick, Standsted, Luton and City Airport, I have linked to my guide on all transport options from tube, overground, coach and taxi options with cost estimates too.

The Perfect One Week London And Paris Itinerary

Day 1 In London – Tower Bridge, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace

A great place to start your discovery of London is the Southbank, a district between the Thames and Waterloo station, where there are some landmark buildings of the city.

You can walk the length of the banks on the River Thames and see many of the tourist sights.

Borough Market, one of the largest food markets in London, with a wide selection of ethnic street food and local products. This place is not to be missed.

The nearest subway station is London Bridge. This can be combined with a visit to many cool places to visit in London Bridge.

From Tower Bridge to Millennium Bridge

The iconic towers of Tower Bridge emerge from the river a short distance from Borough Market. The usual photo is a must. We continue towards Westminster along the Thames until we reach another famous bridge, the futuristic Millennium Bridge.

Note that depending on your start in London, this place is also great to visit at night. For evening pictures check out my post on Tower Bridge at night.

Behind the Millennium Bridge there are two institutions of London culture: the Shakespeare’s Globe, a modern reconstruction of Shakespeare’s legendary theatre (what a thrill it must be to watch a live show!), And the Tate Modern gallery.

Crossing the bridge, you can instead reach the St. Paul’s Cathedral, whose dome soars above the river.

The Tate Modern Museum for Contemporary Art

Visit the Tate Modern, a temple of modern art with over 4 million visitors a year. Admission is free, while seeing its permanent collection and temporary exhibitions is priceless.

From Tate Modern’s Switch House you can admire a beautiful panorama of London.

Big Ben, Palace of Westminster and the London Eye

From Tate Modern walk along the river bank passing Blackfriars Bridge, Waterloo Bridge before arriving on Southbank with its cool restaurants, cafes, theatre and cinema and markets.

We are in the heart of London: just look up to see some very famous monuments. I’m talking about Big Ben, the clock tower on the northeast corner of the Palace of Westminster, also called the House of Parliament.

The profile of these immortal places is reflected in the waters of the Thames.

Currently, Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster are being renovated. The works, which hide the facades of the visitors, could last until 2021.

Not far away, between the Westminster Bridge and the Hungerford Bridge, is the London Eye, Europe’s tallest Ferris wheel.

Until 2013 it was the highest point from which to observe London and even today it offers a mind-boggling view.

Westminster Abbey, St. James’s Park and Buckingham Palace

From Big Ben continue behind the House of Parliament towards Westminster Abbey, another symbolic building, where English kings and queens have been crowned and where the most famous characters of British history are buried, from Elizabeth I to Charles Dickens.

Then slip into St. James’s Park, one of the magnificent Royal Parks of London, and hunt squirrels for a few minutes.

It is extraordinary how, upon entering a London park, one immediately feels far from the city, the sounds of traffic disappear, and all around there are only meadows, trees and expanses of water.

Walk around the park on one of the long sides until you see Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the monarchy.

To be a place so important and super visited (when you change the guard you struggle to see something), it is individually … small.

It is now sunset time, the feet ask for a truce: thus ends the first day of exploration in London.

Day 2: London in colour, from Notting Hill to five o’clock tea

On day 2 in London we dedicate it to the discovery of some historic neighbourhoods and markets, which have become a cult for visitors. Not only: let’s take tea at five, one of those experiences to do in London to feel very British.

Portobello Road and Notting Hill

Morning of day 2 in London, the first stop is Portobello Road, a famous street in the Notting Hill district, a reference point for lovers of antique markets and film tourism.

The most famous and crowded market is held every Saturday, but the other days of the week it is nice to walk among the shops with colourful signs and photograph pastel facades. Lose yourself in the back streets of Notting Hill, they are a real treat.

Portobello Road

Old Spitalfields Market between vintage and new designers

At Notting Hill Gate, we take the tube and get off at the Liverpool Street stop of the Circle line.

Here awaits us the Old Spitalfield Market, another historic indoor market famous for it’s vintage clothing and design stands, but there is also street food. They say that the leading designers of the future can be found here.

Brick Lane: street art and food

From Old Spitalfield Market in just a few steps you are on Brick Lane, London street famous for street art and multicultural soul.

Especially in the past, this area was known as “Bangla Town” due to the high concentration of South-East Asian immigrants. Today this feature has made it a trend zone, a reference point for ethnic cuisine, especially Indian.

On Sunday, Brick Lane is filled with Londoners and tourists, attracted by its vintage clothing, antiques and street food market.

Walking through the neighbourhood, you can admire extraordinary works of street art, including some works by Banksy.

Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park at sunset

After tea, a digestive walk is needed. And which place in London at sunset is more romantic than Kensington Gardens?

In the literary tradition, this park is linked to the books of Peter Pan: it is here that the first volume is set, featuring the eternal child born of the pen of James Matthew Barrie. If you are lucky, you might happen to spot some fairy.

To the west, Kensington Gardens are connected to the famous Hyde Park, so you can walk around either.

Day 3: In London between museums and Camden Town

The third day in London is a mix of classic and contemporary, a race against time to visit some of the remaining attractions.

Trafalgar Square and National Gallery of London

The morning begins in Trafalgar Square, the famous square with the column of Admiral Nelson resting on four bronze lions. Right here is one of London’s most visited museums, the National Gallery.

The beautiful building houses a free permanent collection, which includes some of the most famous paintings in the world: Virgin of the Rocks by Leonardo, the Sunflowers by Van Gogh, paintings by Caravaggio, Turner, Constable, Monet, the Flemings … A true and true own temple of art. Trafalgar Square

From the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square, if you love a bit of retail therapy then head over to check out Oxford Street. The famous shopping mecca of London with high street stores, department stores and boutiques.

Camden Town Between Vintage And Street Food

So many paintings bring an appetite. We then move on the tube to Camden Town, one of the most alternative and punk neighbourhoods in London.

A veritable jungle of colours, smells and markets one inside the other, in which street food and antiques blend together like in the other London markets. You will need at least 2-3 hours in the area to explore.

Natural History Museum of London

After lunch, we visit another famous London museum. In addition to its precious collection, the Museum of Natural History deserves a visit especially for its architecture: the mighty entrance hall with its grand staircase and historiated windows, the huge blue whale skeleton suspended from the ceiling. We remain speechless.

Regent Street and Piccadilly Circus

The last stop in London before the return is in its beating heart, Regent Street and Piccadilly Circus, which is usually decked out with hundreds of Union Jacks.

This is a very lively place in the collective imagination, seen on TV or in the cinema, so crossing them is almost surreal.

Don’t miss a visit to the huge Waterstones bookshop of Piccadilly: six floors and over 200,000 volumes make it the largest bookshop in Europe.

How To Get From London To Paris

London and Paris are two of the great international European capitals. Between them is the Channel, a stretch of sea that separates both territories.

And a train that unites them. Currently, the Eurostar, a high-speed train, is responsible for covering the route between these two capitals.

There are different types of tickets depending on the route and class chosen on the train. There are one-way tickets to different cities with round-trip stops or combined tickets.

Prices start at £29 and reach £490. In short, you have a lot of options to choose from. The London Paris Eurostar travel time is under 3 hours and you arrive in the middle of town.

This is my preference compared to travel via flight from London to Paris when you will land in smaller airports and require a coach to get into the city in addition to all the airport security madness which is long and a tad painful if you add to that the baggage restrictions.

The cheapest prices are obtained by accepting certain conditions and restrictions. For example, exchange limits or reimbursement offers applied for weekends or reservations that must be made a specific number of days in advance.

On the company’s website you will find the wide range of fares and ticket types. In addition, on the website of the National Society of French Railways (SNCF) you will find more information and the possibility to book online.

Pro Tip: The more in advance you book your tickets the higher the chance of getting cheaper tickets.

Other transport Options: Flights from London to paris as well as London to Paris Coach travel but I would not recommend this unless you are travelling on a shoestring as the journey is LOOOOONG!

When To Leave London For Paris?

This all depends on the price of the train ticket. So you can leave on the evening of day 3 in London. There are trains leaving London around 8pm and you can be in Paris before 10pm.

Note that this means you need to book your Paris accommodation to start from this day. You can also opt to leave on the morning of day 4 in London.

There are Eurostar trains leaving as early as 5.30am. You can arrive in Paris and start exploring as early as you want.

Just make sure your Airbnb or hotel in Paris allows for early check-in so you can drop of your bags and head to the nears cafe to load up on caffeine and a croissant.

Is it possible to visit Paris in 48 hours? Plus Day 1 In Paris

So you have arrived in Paris and checked into your cool hotel with views of Eiffel Tower. It’s now time to go exploring.

The route to Paris in 48 hours crosses the main monuments, gardens and commercial streets of the city. You can go shopping, visit the attractions, the museums, have a coffee, stroll in the parks. Also a mandatory day trip to Versailles.

To start the tour of the city with impetus, I suggest you see the Eiffel Tower right away! One of my favourite spots is Trocadero where I have seen many a sunrise in Paris.

You will have the best impact arriving by metro at the Trocadero stop, where you will come across the grandiose tower and the extensive Champ de Mars, the park where the symbol of the city is located.

From the Trocadero stop you will arrive at the base of the Eiffel Tower, where you will find the ticket offices.

You can buy various types of tickets to reach the different floors of the tower; we recommend reaching the third floor, where the highest lookout point is.

After visiting the Eiffel Tower, you can reach the Latin Quarter, one of the busiest and cheapest places to dine. I recommend that you take the RER to Champs de Mars (Eiffel Tower to the Saint-Michel station).

After dinner you can have a drink in the area or take a walk to see the illuminated monuments. Crossing the Île de la Cité from the Latin Quarter, you will arrive at Notre Dame from any bridge of the Seine.

Along the island, you can reach the Hotel de Ville, the seat of the Paris municipality.

In the evening there are plenty of options from evening dinner cruises on the Seine to night tours exploring Paris. After dinner, a nice walk crossing many of the beautiful Bridges of Paris is another pleasure that is underestimated.

Day 2 In Paris – Visiting The Main Tourist Sights In Paris

Today’s itinerary is particularly extensive when you will tick of many of my top 20 things to do in Paris, but will allow you to visit the most important places in Paris. Reaching the Hôtel National des Invalides around 10:00 and finishing the route at Montmartre at 20:00, you will have 3 hours to walk and 7 hours to do what you want.

Start the Paris tour at 10:00 at the Hôtel National des Invalides. The nearest metro stations are those of Invalides, Varennes and La Tour-Maubourg. Inside the church, under the central dome, there is the tomb of Napoleon.

Near the Invalides, there is the Rodin Museum, very convenient to visit and highly recommendable. In his garden you can contemplate the most famous works of the French sculptor.

Crossing the area surrounding the Invalides you will arrive at the Pont Alexandre III, the most beautiful bridge in Paris.

Going forward in a straight line you will reach the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais. The latter building, with free entrance, has an excellent decoration and an interesting atrium.

Heading towards Avenue Winston Churchill you will come across the Elysian Fields and, to the left, with the Arc de Triomphe.

Walking without haste you can observe the luxurious shop windows in the area or have a coffee in one of the pleasant bars you will find along the way.

In our opinion, although not as spectacular as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe offers the best views of Paris. It is therefore more than advisable to climb to the top of the Arc.

Returning back towards the Elysian Fields, and after walking more or less for half an hour, you will arrive at the Place de la Concorde, where you will see the Luxor obelisk.

From the centre of the square you can observe the Champs Elysées to the west, the Tuileries Garden to the east, the National Assembly to the south and the Madeleine Church to the north.

Walking towards the Madeleine you will walk along the Rue Royale, one of the most famous shopping streets in Paris. You can enter the church and then, coming back, take the Saint Honoré street on your left.

Walking along Saint Honoré you will see Place Vendome to the left, guarded by the famous column that imitates that of Trajan in Rome.

Coming out of the square and crossing back the previous route indicated, you will arrive at the Tuileries Garden.

Crossing them you will reach the Louvre Museum, a visit to which you can dedicate the desired time. We advise you to be selective in choosing the rooms and works to see. Make sure you buy skip the line tickets for the Louvre as there can sometimes be queues.

Leaving the museum to the north, you can take the Avenue de l’Opéra, a commercial street that built Napoleon III to communicate the Louvre with the Palais Garnier, the Opera building that you can visit if you wish.

Passing the building you will reach the Haussmann Boulevard, where there are the Lafayette and Printemps galleries, two luxurious department stores.

We recommend that you enter the Lafayette Galleries just to see its famous dome. When you visit Printemps don’t miss out on the views in the terrace cafe at Printemps.

If you want to learn more about the area, you can walk to the Grandes Boulevares metro station, where you will find the Hard Rock Cafe and the Grévin Wax Museum.

The following stop is at Montmartre, which can be reached by taking the metro (Blanche) or walking towards Rue Montmartre to the Blanche square, where the famous Moulin Rouge is located.

The Boulevard de Clichy is a bohemian street with lots of nightlife and shopping, which can be defined as the “red light” area of Paris.

Walking east on Boulevard de Clichy, you will arrive at the Anverse metro and follow the signs for the Montmartre funicular. You can use this means of transport or climb the 200 steps to reach the top, as you prefer.

Once you get to the top of Montmartre you can visit the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and walk its streets.

Following the flow of tourists, you will reach the Place du Tertre (better known as the Painters Square), one of the best places in Paris to dine without spending much.

After dinner, you can watch (at 11:00 pm) a show at the Moulin Rouge. But if you don’t want to pay for your expensive ticket, you can still spend the evening in one of the many bars in the neighbourhood.

Day 3 In Paris: visit Versailles in one day from Paris

When planning a trip to Paris another element to consider are easy day trips from Paris. Thanks to the genius of the artists who made it and to the size and personality of its client, King Louis XIV, the castle of Versailles is among the most subdued and famous in the world.

The visit of the French capital cannot be separated from an excursion to Versailles, only 17 km from the centre of Paris, easily reachable in about 30/40 minutes by RER or car or bus from the centre of Paris.

The site is so vast that a single day of visit would be less than exhaustive, however, considering the average duration of a tourist stay in Paris, if you have little time available, it is possible to organize an excursion to Versailles, guided or not, in half or full day.

In summer especially, when it is possible to watch the spectacle of musical fountains and the weather is more favourable, it is really worth spending a whole day in Versailles to visit the palace and its beautiful gardens!

The palace

The palace of Versailles represents one of the most beautiful masterpieces of French art of the seventeenth century.

A simple hunting lodge at the time of Louis XIII, it was transformed into a splendid royal palace by the Sun king who transferred the court there in 1682 and remained the official seat of power until the French Revolution.

Later, the beautiful royal residence was transformed into a Museum dedicated to the History of France by the will of Louis Philippe and a series of works flowed into its halls that still bear witness to the great events of French history.

The gardens

The large park that extends behind the palace represents one of the greatest treasures of Versailles. From the central window of the gallery of mirrors, an enchanting panorama unfolds, extending from the foot of the building as far as the eye can see through a long perspective embellished by the work of the architect André Le Nôtre: fountains with elegant sculptures, water games, flower beds and canals.

The big and the small Trianon

The Grand Trianon is a luxurious and refined “dépendance” of the Palace of Versailles that the Sun King had built inside in the park by the architect Hardouin Mansart in 1687, as a refuge from the oppressive court life and sweet meeting with the lady of Montespan.

One cannot help but succumb to the charm of this building with elegant and intimate proportions, a small palace of pink marble and porphyry surrounded by enchanting gardens.

A part of the building is currently used as the residence of the President of the French Republic.

The “Petite Trianon” was the favorite place of Marie Antoinette who found an oasis of tranquillity in which she could live a simple life, far from the pomp and tyranny of the label.

How Many Days In London And Paris Is Enough?

In other words how many days to spend in London and Paris? I get asked this a lot. This really depends on your budget. Both cities can be done on the budget with enough research.

Both are pretty big in terms of places to visit and things to do. At a minimum, I would suggest doing 2-3 days in each one. Hence the 6 day London and Paris itinerary.

Three days in London also allows you to add a day trip if you so wish to the many beautiful cities in the UK. The same for Paris there are so many day trips beyond Versailles that are worth checking out for example explore Monet’s Garden in Giverny.

I would say 3 days in each city but if you hating planning and want to really maximise your visit I would highly recommend incorporating tours in your visit to London and Paris.

You can also do London and Paris in 5 days by cutting out one day from London or cutting out the day trip to Versailles.

Best Time To Visit London And Paris

You cannot plan best itinerary for London and Paris without considering the best time to visit. Each period brings its own elements. Spring in London or summer means cherry blossoms and better weather of course.

But remember than Spring and Summer when the kids are off school means endless queues at museums and just overall busy cities.

I would say the best time to visit would be just before the kids leave school. You have better weather and also less crowds.

Visiting Paris and London in the Autumn and Winter means cool holidays like Halloween and Christmas. You get to experience the popular festivities around the holidays and see just how the city embraces the events.

This also means packing for the cold weather. Towards the end of the year, it can also get even busier as people travel for the New Year celebration too.

So bear that in mind whether doing a 6 day or even 8 day trip to London Paris

If you planning a trip to Paris and London and want to visit during the quiet period and possibly cheaper too, I have found that prices can be a lot cheaper in November and just after the New Years celebrations but definitely before Valentines Day!

Where To Stay In Paris And London

When planning all the cool things to do on your London and Paris in a week itinerary, you cannot forget about accommodation.

The city has less than six hours of light, and the temperatures can drop to as low as -5 to 15 degrees. It is also very rare for it to snow in Paris, but when it does the city looks so beautiful. Here are essential items to pack when visiting Paris in the winter months (December-February):

A warm winter coat;
Turtlenecks;
Boots- depending on your personal style, they could be either knee-length, ankle-length, or both;
Oversized or normal-fit cardigans;

No matter how much you’re tempted to, don’t take Uggs to, or wear them while in Paris if you want to be truly stylish.

I recommend shopping for winter coats that are in a bigger size than your normal size. This is a style hack because the oversized ones always look chicer and more sophisticated than the tight ones.

Paris winters get colder in January, so you need to layer more. Tourist attractions and planes are less crowded in January. In January, there are slightly longer days and the drowsiness of early winter is gone/ the air is crisp and has a clean winter ambience to it. The weather is cold and there are spells of ice cold rain. The temperature ranges from 2 to 6 degrees celsius. Here’s what to take to Paris in January:
