  • Sicily & Naples: Warmer regions where winters are mild, around 10-18°C (50-64°F). Think light coats and breathable knits.
  • Northern Italy (Alps): Snowy peaks and ski season vibes dominate with temperatures dropping to -5-5°C (23-41°F).

How To Get From Milan To Lake Como By Train

The best way to get to Lake Como from Milan city by train, and it is also the most convenient way to travel too as well as being affordable in price and comfort. There is are two railway lines that connect Milan and Lake Como – from Milano Porta Garibaldi, and from Milano Nord Cadorna.

The first option to get to Como from Milan is via the train from Milan Centrale or Porta Garibaldi and then on to Como S. Giovanni, a station about 10 minutes’ stroll from the lakefront. The trains departing from the two stations use the same route, the only difference is that with the trains from Centrale, you have fewer stops. Another thing to note is that the Porta Garibaldi trains have few trains running as they make stops at almost every station. This results in the journey taking almost twice as long.

The journey time from Centrale to Como is only 36 minutes, via the Porta Garibaldi to Como route the journey time is over an hour. Train ticket prices vary too, between €4.80 for slow regional trains and €14 for speedy trains. Still much cheaper compared to train travel in London.  For more on options and Milan to Lake Como train costs, you can buy tickets online via Trenitalia, or in-person on the station but for the fast trains on Trenitalia, I would recommend booking these in advance sometimes as some journeys do sell out.

  • Express trains from Milan Central Station to Como: comfortable trains, very few stops and shorter travel time (under 40 mins). Trains stop at a station named Como San Giovanni, with only a few minute’s walk to get to the lake from the station and boats around the lake.
  • Regional trains from Milan Porta Garibaldi to Como San Giovanni: have more stops to get to Lake Como and travel time is about 60 minutes travel time.
  • Regional trains to Como Lago: depart from Milano Cadorna, Milano Domodossola, Milano Bovisa. All take around 60 minutes with a lot of stops, but you arrive right in front of the lake and the boats.
  • Regional trains to the east side of the lake: take a train from Milano Central to Tirano and stop at Lecco, Varenna or Colico. Varenna is especially good: 60 minutes rail trip and you can get to a boat at the centre of the lake, to reach Bellagio in 10 minutes.

Departure timing and nearest stations

Trains from Milan to Lake Como operates each day a week.  The first departure starts at the 5:30 AM while the last departure leaves just after the 11:00 p.m. there are numerous trains are operating and you can get a train within an hour of the interval at peak timing. The nearest starting train stations are Milano Centrale or Milano Porta Garibaldi train station while the arrival train station is Como S. Giovanni. For train timetables for the Milan to Lake Como trains check out Omio which will have train times and prices for the different railway lines.

Traveling By Bus From Milan To Lake Como

Travelling by bus from Milan to Lake Como is another easy and cheap options. This way you also get to take in views of the towns too along the way.

Departure timing and nearest stations

There are about three local bus companies which run services from Milan to the Lake Como – Trenitalia, Trenord, and BlaBlaCar. The fare ranges from 4€ to 6.80€ with the overall journey being 1 hour and 10 minutes, from Milan central station to Como train station.

The total distance between Milan and Lake Como is around 51 kilometers and the first buses leave at 6:30 a.m. while the last departure ends before 11:00 p.m., with an interval of 1 hour between buses.

Overall, traveling by local transport can be very pleasant as well as great option if you are on a budget as tickets are as low as 4€. Even with the cheap prices you still get a comfortable seat and many of the buses also offer hotspots and charging points. You can check bus tickets and times on Omio.

Traveling from Milan Malpensa Airport to Lake Como

I have detailed the closest airports to Lake Como for each of the towns in my other post as well. Malpensa airport is located north of Milan, and the closest airport to Lake Como. In the event, you are heading straight to Como from Milan airport. From Malpensa airport to Lake Como, you have two options. The first option and I think the easiest is taking direct TILO trains,  running daily from the airport to Como S. Giovanni. This train takes about an hour and a half. These new direct trains operate between 7.12 am to 11.12 pm and run about every two hours, and cost €17 every way. Again use Omio to find out the times of the earliest train once you land in Milan.

The second option, includes a train change. From Malpensa take an express train heading to Milan and get off at Saronno station, from there,  you can hop on a train to Como Nord Lago, the station right next to the Lake Como. The journey time between Malpensa and Como varies between 50 minutes to 1 hour 20, depending on connections, and tickets cost €10.90 each way.

Traveling from Milan to Bellagio & Varenna

Bellagio can be reached very easily from any from Milan centrale or Como by a train or local transport. You can take a train from Milan Centrale to Bellagio – there are departures every hour with the ticket fare of 7€.

Varenna distances from Milan is about 73 kilometers, and it takes 1 hour and 30 minutes of time to get to the picturesque town by train and the fare cost of 6.80€.

So, have you been to Lake Como? Did you take the train, bus or drive? How did you find the transportation?

Spring in Europe? Here’s the Ultimate List of Items to Travel Europe in Style

Spring in Europe? Here’s the Ultimate List of Items to Travel Europe in Style - The perfect packing list for Europe in spring #packing #carryon #2weeksineurope #traveltips #packingtips #spring #summer #outfits

If you are planning a trip to Europe then this packing list for Europe in spring is up your alley. Usually, the holiday destinations are tropical or warmer climates. Holidaying is Europe is completely different because Europe is diverse, both in its climate and fashion. From the sunny beaches of Ibiza in Spain to the cold weather of Edinburgh, Scotland, travel across Europe requires carefully planned itinerary and packing. For additional tips also make sure to check out my post on outfit inspiration when it comes to putting together the perfect outfits when exploring Europe.

What To Pack For Europe In Spring & Travel Planning Tips

The Happy Wanderer

Now that you have finally booked your tickets for that Europe tour that you have been planning for years, and decided on the sights you are going to visit, and taken care of things like making Airbnb bookings, you must be eager to set off on your journey. But there’s just one thing more to do before you take off on your dream Europe trip; you need to pack!

Packing… Urgh!

Well, if it’s any consolation, packing is one of the most hated chores worldwide. Unless you are Marie Kondo, no one likes the idea of folding clothes and placing them properly in the luggage. Be sure to also use the best luggage for Europe when traveling the continent.

Luggage: Put Wheels on It!

Before you embark upon this dream vacation to Europe, you need to select the kind of luggage you will bring along. You can either go for a backpack or a suitcase. Backpack can strain your back and shoulders and take all the fun out of exploring as you are left tired and cranky. Opt for a suitcase which is easier to organize, especially a soft-shell one that can accommodate more stuff and is crack-proof (we all know how freight is handles at the airports)!

Whirling around Europe in Style

Add a style buzz to your Europe trip by choosing the right kind of clothing. We all start packing with the intentions of packing light and as we go along, things spiral out of control and we end up with huge, bulky luggage.

To ensure your trip is not burdened by a heavy suitcase, mix and match your outfits and take along style items that you can create multiple looks with! For day trips and exploring around the city, you will also need a small bag to fit in all your accessories.

A Chic Adventure

For tops, take along a mix of tees, blouses, and shirts. A long-sleeved shirt can be used in multiple ways; sleeves rolled up for warmers days and rolled down for colder nights. European weather is always changing; you will step into an old castle as the sun smiles down upon you and step out into a blitz of rain as the tour comes to an end an hour later.

So, never forget to take along a nice, easy-to-carry jacket or a windbreaker. Never forget to pack an elegant and dressy outfit, because you never know where the road might lead you!

A Top-Down Approach

A dark pair of jeans is a must have! From casual, travel hippie look to being paired up with a chiffon blouse for a stylishly refined look, dark jeans is your best friend on a European tour. Capris and skirts also bring versatility to your travel wardrobe while leggings are a handy accessory for colder nights.

Add Swagger to your Walk

First things first; never ever bring along new shoes for a tour. Trip across Europe means diversity of terrain and extended time spent on foot. You need your most comfortable pair of shoes. Go for a comfy pair of sneakers or walking shoes and a pair of sandals for warmer days.

You might want to throw in a pair of flip flops for those sandy beaches, or just to recline in your poolside chair and relax!

Amp it Up!

Accessories can make or break an ensemble. You can spice up your look, or even create a completely new one with the same outfit, by choosing the right kind of accessories. Pack lightweight and stylish necklaces, rings, and earrings that are travel friendly.

A vivid, patterned scarf can strike all the right chords of style, while sunglasses are practical, yet stylish fashion accessory. You will also need your undergarments, including at least one complete set of active wear and a swimsuit. A handy makeup kit is essential to capture those insta-worthy vacation pics.

Watch it Closely!

While a smartphone is your one-stop-shop for essentially everything, a smart watch like Apple or Samsung Gear can make your traveling experience a lot more fun.

Travel Smart

While we are at smart gadgets, the foremost is a smart SIM card with an affordable data plan, so you stay connected on-the-go. If you don’t want to be distracted by the smartphone, opt for tablet which is much less of a diversion than easily accessible smartphone in your pocket!

Tablets are also good for book lovers who can easily read e-books, instead of lugging around paperbacks. The worst nightmare on a trip is a fried device. As the European power outlets are different, it is advisable to bring along a voltage converter.

Say Cheese

You want to make your Europe visit memorable. Capture as many images as you want with Instax® SQUARE SQ20 by FujiFilm to preserve your European trip memories forever.

Your Ticket out of here!

While the ancient explorers relied on stars and needles of the compass, you should pack your travel guide and download all the maps you might need out in the wild! Last but not least, ensure your travel documents are complete and in proper order to make your flight check-ins hassle free.

Ovеrаll bus and train jоurnеу takes аlmоѕt 6 hours and costs 25 Euros(£21 roughly) for Malpensa to Genoa.

By Car From Milan Airport To Cinque Terre

Car rentals from Milana Malpensa аіrроrt range from £18 per day upwards depending on the car you take.  The drive from Milan airport to Cіnԛuе Tеrrе roughly takes 3 hours аnd 28 minutes. Although this allows you the flexibility to stop and explore along the way as you please, the downside is that of parking but you can park in La Speiza and then use local trains and buses. This is a great option if you are exploring beyond Cinque Terre otherwise if the car is just going to sit in the car park then you are better off just using the train from Milan to Cinque Terre.
