The taxis from city centre cost about 50 Euros but much more in the late evening and take a little over 1 hour depending on traffic. A lot easier to combing metro and taxi as the taxi from Nomismatokopio takes about 30 minutes. To use the bus bear in mind that the journey takes a minimum of 70 minutes depending on traffic. Buses leave from Pedion Areos in Athens city centre.

Lavrio Ferry Port: This is located on the southern part of Athens and serves few Cyclades islands. To get to Lavrio ferry port from Athens city centre by taxi, you are looking at about 70-80 minutes depending on traffic and costs about 60 Euros but can cost as close to 100 Euros in the evening. By Metro the closes you can get to the port is by way of a tram from Syntagma or Faliro to Voula and then from there, you can take a taxi for about 30 minutes. To travel by bus, you need to take a 2-hour bus from Pedion Areos in Athens centre or take the green line metro to Victoria station and then walk up to Heiden street.

Athens Airport to Ferry Ports: Taxis from Athens airport to the ferry ports take roughly 30-60 minutes. From Athens airport to Piraeus ferry port by taxi, the journey is about 50 minutes cost about 50 Euros, from Athens airport to Rafina ferry port is about 2o minutes and costs about 30 Euros. From Athens airport to Lavrios ferry port by taxi its about 30 minutes and costs roughly about 50 Euros.

When you buy the tickets for the ferry from Mykonos to Athens or ferry from Athen to Mykonos are booked in advance, you have to pick them up at the port, just prior to sailing. The ticketing booths do not take a long time to find, and the pick-up does not generally pose any hassles. Arriving an hour before the departure should be convenient enough.

Usually, the Mykonos Athens ferry never sell out and the tickets can be bought on the day of sailing. But prior online booking is recommended if you must have a particular ferry ride on a given day.

How to get from Athens to Mykonos by ferry and by flight

Athens To Mykonos Flights

During the summer season, there are a number of flights from Athens to Mykonos. Flying takes about 35 minutes excluding the airport transfers and security check. And this is the fastest way to reach the destination from Athens. You can easily search for flights on Expedia or Kayak.

In the months of July and August, there are as many as 18 flights flying between the 2 islands. The flights take off from the Athens International Airport and land at the Mykonos International Airport, which is a mere 10 minutes away from the Mykonos Town. The airline operators that cater to the travelers from Athens to Mykonos are:

Aegean Airlines: Three Aegean airline flights operate between the two routes.
One of the flights leaves at 10:45 A.M. and reaches Mykonos by 11:20 A.M.
Another one departs Athens at 4:45 P.M. and reaching the destination close by 5:20 P.M.
Yet another is a late evening flight leaving Athens at 7:05 P.M and reaching Mykonos by 7:40 P.M.

All the three flights take 35 minutes to reach the destination and all of them are non-stop flights. They cost around 280 Europs.

Ryanair: This Airlines leaves Athens at 6:40 A.M. and reaches Mykonos by 7:30 A.M. It is a non-stop flight. The cost comes to approximately 50-100 Euros.
Olympic Airlines: They operate a flight between Athens and Mykonos, which departs at 5:30 A.M and arrives at the destination by 6:10 A.M. Another flight is an evening one, which departs from Athens at 7:05 P.M. and reaches Mykonos at 7:40 P.M. The flight ticket would cost you somewhere around 150 Euros.
Volotea: This non-stop flight departs from Athens at 12 noon and reaches Mykonos at 12:45 P.M. The single way trip will cost you about 160 Euros.
Sky Express: This flight takes off from Athens airport at 11:20 A.M., reaching Mykonos by 12:05 P.M. 180 Euros is the approximate cost of the trip.
Hahn Air: Their airplane takes off from the Athens airport at 11:20 A.M., reaching Mykonos at 12:05 P.M. The ticket costs about 220 Euros.

The very best beaches on Santorini include black, red, white sand beaches filled with volcanic minerals; one of my big reasons for staying in Akrotiri which is near the red beach. Another reason was its proximity to the best Santorini beaches as well as its quiet and tranquil life on the island.

If you are thinking of heading to Santorini I would highly recommend you consider the smaller villages and towns in Santorini too. Akrotiri offers the same sunsets as Oia, you are close to great beaches, restaurants line the beaches too and of course, you also have the famous Santorini blue domes.

To learn more about Santorini and the very much active volcano that the island lies next to check out Visit Greece. The islands that form Santorini came into existence as a result of the intensive volcanic activity. Twelve huge eruptions occurred, one every 20,000 years approximately, and each violent eruption caused the collapse of the volcano’s central part creating a large crater (caldera).

The last big eruption occurred 3,600 years ago, when igneous material covered the three islands (Thíra, Thirassiá and Asproníssi). 2. Red Beach | Red Sand Beach In Santorini

The Red beach is one of the most popular and beautiful of the beaches of Santorini. This beautiful red sand beach in Santorini sits right at the bottom of Akrotiri and one of most famous of Santorini beaches.

Access is via pathways that are prone to landslides/rock falls but you are rewarded with beautiful red-black sand and pebble beach.

There is signage that says “dangerous – do not go through”, so if you go it is at your own risk. There aren’t any shops or much to see on the beach but the scenery is great. For hotels close to Red Beach you need to look at Santorini hotels in Akrotiri.

How to get to Red Beach Santorini – These overhanging and porous red rocks are just a few minutes walk from Akrotiri Archaeological Site in Akrotiri. If you aim for the Archaeological Site someone can guide you on from there but you will also more than likely see people walking to the beach.

3. Thirassia Beach

Thirassia Beach can be reached by boat excursion from Oia. This small island is quiet with a much more laid-back pace of life than mainland Santorini. Thirassia beach has beautiful crystal clear waters with amazing views of the main island of Santorini.

4. Monolithos Beach

A family-friendly (due to spots featuring shallow seafloors) beach with a collection of hotels and restaurants near by with plenty more sand to play with compared to many other beaches on the island. There are many Santorini hotels on Monolithos Beach.

5. Agios Georgios Beach

Another fairly popular beach a few kilometers from Perissa beach. Its fairly organised so you can rent beach loungers, towels and many places to eat and drink. For Santorini hotels near Agios Georgios Beach check out Booking.

6. Perivolos Beach

Want to experience a black sand beach in Greece? Then this is one to check out. If you want peace and quiet then this is the place for you!

The longest black sand beach in Santorini with restaurants, hotels as well as many water sports activities on offer.

7. Armeni Beach

Armeni Beach is a small beach very close to Oia and can be easily accessible by foot. Not as crowded as many of the beaches in Santorini, partly due to access.

Descending about 300 steps, Armeni Beach offers clear blue deep waters and a nice local tavern where you can peacefully enjoy fresh seafood while chilling on the beach shores.

Armeni, is a small beach with deep blue water, located a few meters to the south of Amoudi beach. There are a few restaurants on the beach area as you are close to Ammoudi Bay. Great for swimming!

Ammoudi beach, one of the popular spots on the island also doubles as a fishing harbor lies at the foot of Oia village. Access to Ammoudi Bay is by riding a donkey down to the bottom or walking down over 200 steps.

The beach although beautiful is small with clear blue deep waters. While here you can also sample some of the best fish restaurants in Santorini which can be found at Ammoudi.

9. Perissa Beach AKA Black Beach

12. Koloumbo Beach

Kolumbo Beach is located close to Oia, and considered one of the most beautiful beaches on Santorini Island. Unspoiled long sandy beach with pebbles, surrounded by cliffs offering great views and relaxing scenery as it is quite isolated. With the beach not being organized it attracts many nudists.

13. Baxedes Beach

Baxedes Beach is one of the best beaches on Santorini island perfect for those looking for tranquility and relaxation away from the crowds. With beautiful black sand, it’s isolated and located on the northern side of Santorini.

Baxedes Beach beach is 3 km away from Oia and can be easily reached by car or motorbike. Its one of the few sandy beaches in Oia, with plenty of shade and suitable for families. Although be aware of the strong summer northern winds called meltemia due to the beach northern location.

Well, as small as Santorini is, there is more to it than just Oia. Last week I shared with you a post on my explorations of Santorini Sunset Tour while beach-hopping on a Catamaran that saw us sailing around the Greek island. I also shared a post on Santorini’s Best Beaches.

During my visit this summer, we managed to explore the little island back to back and around it, including sailing around it. Having been to Oia and Fira I was glad we managed to book a place away from Oia and the crowds. From my point of view, most hotels lacked a little privacy as hordes of tourists busy looking over the hotel balconies and pool areas, while I am sure those guests were trying to relax, no doubt.

The streets also don’t seem to sleep so if your hotel is near the footpaths then that is just something you will have to deal with. I am not saying that you cannot find places in Oia that are away from the crowds but you will either have to pay a premium or be lacking in views and I wanted both the views and peace and quiet with my rest and relaxation on the Island. I found it too! In Akrotiri. Akrotiri sits directly opposite Oia. (Santorini is kind of shaped like a ‘C’ or half-moon crescent.

The tip of the crescent, you could say is where the two towns sit.) I booked my sisters and I a place with views of the volcano, Oia, Thira, and we had views of either side of the seas of the island which was a plus! Located in the western edge of the island and directly opposite the volcano and the two volcanic islands, Palaia Kameni and Nea Kameni. Staying in Imerovigli

Also known as “The balcony to the Aegean”, is built on the highest point of the caldera cliffs, about 300 meters above sea level. One of the best place to stay Santorini in addition to Oia. It’s located in the northern part of the island but only 3 kilometers from the capital of Fira. Imerovigli is also where you will find a lot of hotels in Santorini with infinity pools and also popular for Santorini honeymooners as is Oia.

Its position provides a magnificent view of the famous volcano, the sparkling Aegean Sea and the sunset that is out of this world. It’s also very quiet compared to its popular counterparts; Oia and Fira. It has great restaurants is only a 30min walk from Fira or a short bus or taxi. Staying in Oia

Reveals the seas and cave houses built and dwelt by the natives. Oia offers one of the best areas to stay Santorini Greece. The area is carefully mapped buildings labeled with the Greek architectural designs. It is the perfect place to watch the sun fall below the sky, especially from a café, or in a comfortable vessel on the sea. It’s also the most visited (perhaps most crowded too) of the island’s towns but its also one of the best places for sunset viewing in Santorini. Many a movie has been shot here too. Santorini sits on the northwest coast of Santorini and it is built on the caldera slope. Staying in Akrotiri

This town, although not as developed as the above, still comes with amazing views as you will see below and at a fraction of the price in Oia. Akrotiri is a quiet village and is situated on the south-west edge of Santorini.

About 15 kilometers away from Fira. Akrotiri offers a great option for those wanting to do Santorini on a budget as hotels here are cheap but still come with an amazing view of the caldera. Staying in Pyrgos

This is the highest village of the whole island, providing great panoramic views of both sides of the island. It is situated on the west coast, about 8 kilometers southeast of Fira. Thanks to its privileged position it stands out from a distance and the sight from up there offers a different point of view, you can only admire from Pyrgos. Staying in Kamari

This is a seaside village, situated on the southeastern coast of Santorini, at the north foot of Mesa Vouno mountain, a few kilometers away from the capital. Where we stayed on Santorini – Review

So, Why stay in Akrotiri? Proximity to the beaches (Check out my guide to Santorini’s Best beaches – the majority are near Akrotiri), less crowded spots for breathtaking sunsets, restaurants that are an arm’s length to the rolling small waves of the island’s shoreline. Oh and my favorite part; caldera view hotels in Santorini with the total privacy of hotel accommodations without tourists peering through from the top of the cliff.

You can come out and see the sun rising from your own private balcony without the possibility of photo-bombing some tourist take their self-stick for a spin. Lounge by the pool without hearing 100s of tourists that will pass your hotel entrance before the last call for breakfast.

Of course, you can stay in Oia. I would only recommend Oia if only you have a very short stay on the island. If staying longer than say 3-4 days then consider other parts of the Island which have more of a relaxed pace.

One being Akrotiri. Perissa is also another place you can consider but its more of a backpacker scene or somewhere to hang out during the day as the beaches there are just stunning.

Things To See and Do In Santorini | Getting Around The Island

While on the island you can either rent the quads that are around 20-40 Euros a day per bike, but if there is more than 2 of you then I would recommend you just rent a car. They are not expensive at all plus you have more freedom to explore without having to think about returning the bikes daily and worrying about how to get back to your hotel after you drop them off. Most of the roads don’t have names yet as the island is constantly being developed. Most places you will find that you are directed via the landmarks nearby, rather than the name of the road.

What else is there to do, Akrotiri also has the blue dome churches and the plus side of staying here is being close to many of Santorini’s best beaches. Check out Perissa beach or red beach. Some of which are lined with restaurants. Some don’t have many amenities near so you will have to take all you will need with you, including food and drink. For more details on beaches in Santorini. Check out my post on Santorini’s best beaches. With lots of sunset viewing spots in Akrotiri, you won’t have to fight over space like you will find in Oia.

Another activity to add to your explorations of the idea is the Akrotiri Archaeological Site. If you have an interest in prehistoric settlements of the Aegean then this is a must-see. Best Shopping In Santorini

Santorini have a variety of good shopping centres within its ribs. The markets cover items such as books, shoes, clothes and textiles, arts, and jewellery. The best shopping centres include:

Bazaar, a market for cloth collection for teenagers and your adults in the heart of Fira.
Odos Ipapantis, which is nicknamed Gold Street is an area where traders deal largely with jewellery. Ilias Lalaounis is another jewellery shop in the Ypapantis Mall in Fira.
Drakka, Ipapantis is notable for various Outfits and beauty elegancies that can ever be thought of. There are shops with reasonably cheap market prices.
Atlantis Books at Oia is an underground bookstore. It is many people’s favourite.
Books and Styles at Fira square provides a choice of books and gift items.
Iama Wine Shop is the crowned wine cellar within the city. It is situated in Oia.

Santorini Nightlife

The nightlife in this part of Greece is a delight to watch, and one does not get to see the beautiful sunset view in all the beaches. Anyone that loves the sensual feeling of night and nightfalls would choose to stay along Erythroú Stavroú axis, central Fira. Oía is the most notable area for watching the beautiful setting of the sun against the glassy sky. The streets and sidewalks in Oia host people who delight in seeing this beautiful moment of the day.

Best Restaurants In Santorini

Best restaurants in Oia include Roka Karma, Candouni, and Ammoudi Fish Tavern
Best restaurants in Fira include Ouzeri, Argo, and Naoussa
Restaurants with the caldera view include Mezzo, Athenian House, Argo, and La Maison.
For great coffee, Passaggio in Oia and Pure in Fira are spot on.

Dine at The Cave of Nicolas:

The restaurant is right on the shores of the beach. Close enough to hear the small waves beat at the shoreline. Also in close proximity to Red Beach. There are more dining option so check out Perissa beach promenade which lined with restaurants.

When Hotels Are Beautiful But Service Sucks!

In keeping with my 2016 resolutions about being vocal about things that displease me…well lets see how this goes. I try hard to keep my blog positive and thought long about whether to post this about my stay in Athens. I planned a trip to Greece last summer with my sisters. I booked pretty much all the hotels, flights and researched most of the activities me and the girls were going to be doing during our trip. With this in mind, for our stay in Athens I wanted to be fairly central without blowing out the 3 different budgets I was catering for. But I also wanted the views and comfort too.

Having booked several other places I then made the final cut down to Radison Blu in Athens. The hotel was greatly located. Not too far from places to eat and station and the rooftop pool with views of The Acropolis had me sold. The room was great for three people, we were well received at reception and staff were helpful on the ground level. It seemed that’s were the great service starts and stops.

So where did it all go wrong?

It all started the following morning when we when up for breakfast. We sat down to a beautiful table with views of the Acropolis while we waited to have our orders for breakfast taken. Granted it was a buffet breakfast but hotel drinks and made to order foods like eggs had to be ordered. We watched table after table get served within a minute of people sitting down but we were yet to see anyone approach our table. We called the waitress over and ordered coffees and proceeded to pick up some food from the buffet. We shrugged this off to the waitress being preoccupied. BUT when this happens 3 days in a roll during your stay and you watch tables with people who were there before you and those that came after you all get offered tea and coffee and orders for food are table and the only table with 3 black people is ignored you start to question things.

We were far to busy enjoying each other’s company to bother having to go down the road of creating a fuss when we had full days of exploring ahead of us but then the weird behaviour during ours stay doesn’t end there. One of the days we decided to make use of the roof top pool and chill there in the early afternoon. We got there and ordered drinks, which as soon as they arrived, the waitress proceeded to ask for immediate payment because she would due to finish her shift in 10 minutes. We pay for the drinks and go back to enjoying the Greek sunshine. Thirty minutes pass, 1 hour passes and the same waitress is still around and still serving around the pool. Oh guess what no immediate payment is requested for the other guests.

Considering the experience we had at breakfast during our 4-day stay and watching how the only table with 3 black girls was ignored 3 days in a roll. With that, I couldn’t put the behaviour of our waitress by the pool down to just coincidence.

Would I Come Back?

So would I stay at Radisson Blu hotels again, yes – I am actually staying at Radisson Blue when In Paris next month. Would I stay at this particular Radisson Blu hotel in Athens? That’s a big question. The room wasn’t free, nor was it cheap, like any hotel you stay at, you still expect a certain level of service. Although I stated that the room, the views, and facilities in the hotel were great, including that of the staff in reception. Watching our table be ignored 3 days in a roll while every other table was served almost as immediately as people sat down at the table was definitely questionable. Had there been other tables with people of other races other than white, I would be more inclined to believe the reason we were ignored was just a figment of my imagination. It appears thats wasn’t the case so with that I probably wouldn’t stay there again. And no, this didnt ruin my holiday. I went on to have an amazing time in Santorini which you can also read about on the blog.

Obviously not phased by the service!

Exploring Athens Pt 3 | Athenian City Sights

Exploring Athens is not just about seeing the Ancient sites. When you are in the city you have to get to know where people hang out, where they sip that great coffee, taste authentic Kyros(Kebab) and that aromatic Greek salad. Where to get the best views of the city. I want to know the the shops are and where the entertainment hubs are as well as get the feel for how the local transportation works.

Our visit in Athens was at the time when the whole country was tense. Tense because of the voting Greece had to stay or walk away from being part of the Euro zones. This also meant there were protests and demonstrations around the city. It was all very civil and there were plenty of police around the capital. During this difficult time that the country was going through and the high unemployment and the banks being frozen, limits on account withdraws meant that transport was free for everyone in Athens, hotels and restaurants were offering discounts if you paid by cash instead of card. This was because Greek banks were all closed and Greeks were also not allowed to withdraw too much money from the bank during that crisis of last summer.

Overall we still had an amazing time in Athens and Greece in General having moved on to Santorini soon after. I would make sure to follow up with a top 10/15 things to do in Athens soon so look out for that. In the meantime below is a pictorial of our stay in the capital with my sisters.

Exploring Athens Pt 2 | The Acropolis (The High City)

I hope you enjoyed the first part of this Athens series. All three parts of this post will be published this week so be sure to subscribe to get notification when they first appear on the blog. Walking around the Ancient Agora leads you up the hill to the Acropolis.

As I mentioned in the previous post that you have options for the type of tickets you can buy for the sights. I would highly recommend getting the full ticket. Because if you buy the ticket to Agora you will have to buy another ticket for the Acropolis. If you buy the full ticket for the Acropolis you can actually see the other sites as they are included in the ticket.

The climb up to the Acropolis is not that strenuous and there are many sites along the way too, as well as viewing points. So if you see people climbing rock faces, don’t be surprised as they take to some weird and wonderful spots to get that money shot.

The Acropolis

Visiting the Acropolis in Athens is an absolute must! In Greek, the name means ‘High City’, a name given to any citadel built high on a hill or mountain for that matter. The Athenian Acropolis is one of the most recognised sites in the world and an important site in the city. It was very much a symbol of the city then as it still is today. Statesmen in a bid to create something in honor of the goddess Athena, who presided over Athens, spared no expense in constructing the Acropolis.

Skilled architects and sculptors where brought in to create what was and still is a masterpieces. From Callicrates, Mnesikles and Phidias who was claimed to one of the, if not the finest of scultors of that time. It was also Phidias who created the statue of Zeus at Olympia. The works of the skilled men went on to create what we now have today. It’s remarkable that we have anything left considering the first stone to the citadel was laid in 447BCE.

What’s Left Of The Acropolis

Some of the temples and statues on sight are continuously restored and maintained. You can still find the Parthenon, a temple built for goddess Athena, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike and Propylaea. It’s always fascinating to learn about the old cities and then be able to see it with your own eyes and just imagine what life would have been like for those that resided there or those who where summoned to answer questions that would seal their fate. It’s truly a magical place for anyone interesting in architecture, philosophies, ancient histories or those that love a good selfie from the Acropolis. Not to mention the views around the city.

We spent a few days in Athens, leisurely exploring the city at our own pace. I took way too many pictures so I will split my post in 3 parts as I show you parts of The Ancient Sights of Agora, The Acropolis and a pictorial of the city life. Part 1 of the 3-Part Series | Ancient City of Agora

In addition to wanted to see the Acropolis for a long time, The Agora was also high on my list of things to see in Athens. For more than 5 centuries this place was the place to gather. A marketplace, a place were people assembled as the meaning of the word Agora. People assembled here to talk business, politics and current news of the time. As it stands today, it’s hard to imagine just how important it was and just how busy and lively this place might have been as the majority of its structures have fallen and with it the evidence of its splendor with it.

As the has had minimal restoration and is mainly an on-going excavation sight, the museum on sight and the artefacts within paint a story of the way of live hundreds of years ago. Its fascinating seeing just how advanced people were at that time in the materials they used, their methods, from painting, decorating to the use of these materials in creating really beautiful items; from accessories to pots.

Philosophies by Socrates were expounded here, Greek democracy was brought to life here and St Paul is said to have won converts to Christianity in this spot in AD 49, so with that much history seeping in every grain of soil that lies here, the historical significance of this place is just fascinating to learn about. With every step you make, every statue and every temple still visible, it’s as if history is trying to reveal itself.

Ancient Agora Remains

There are still are few buildings standing on sight, The Temple of Hephaestus and Stoa of Attalos. Its amazing how anything is still here considering the Persians had destroyed much of the sights but the Agora was soon rebuilt, it was then destroyed again by the Herulians of Scandinavia, the Turks came and built on the sight but their buildings were demolished too. With the mix of people that have passed through you can see that influence in the artifacts that are showcased in the museum. Almost like having an insight into someone’s way of living. The views from the top of Agora over Athens aren’t bad either.

Opening Times: 8am to 8pm

Price: € 4 – If you intend on visiting the Acropolis the buy the full ticket. This is because if you are visiting the Acropolis on its own you will need the full €12 Euro ticket. If you buy them separately you will spend €4 + €12. If you want to visit this site, Acropolis and other ancient sights you will only need to spent €12. Also, note that from April 2016. Prices are set to rise from €12 to €20.

Additional Tips: 1. Make sure you have a bottle of water if visiting in the summer. This way you can take your time with the climb up towards the Acropolis and keep hydrated in the heat. 2. A Travel Guide To Santorini – Things To Know When Visiting Santorini

The island that most honeymoon, wedding photos and romantic getaway Pinterest boards are made off. Yes, I am sure you have heard of Santorini or at least seen pictures of this beautiful Greek Island in the Aegean Sea. In this post I am going to give you a travel guide to Santorini, covering places to see in Santorini, food, best tours and of course hotels in Santorini.

When you read about Santorini, Oia is not so far behind. Oia is the picturesque cliffside town with white-washed Cycladic cave buildings overlooking Caldera. Luxury sea-facing boutique hotels, art galleries, clothing and jewellery boutiques, wineries and restaurants serving up mouthwatering Greek food to endless beaches.

Tell me why it took me this long to visit Santorini! Although Oia is the most famous of the island’s towns, I would highly recommend you also take the time explore surrounding towns like Akrotiri, Fira, Perissa to name a few. It’s easy to understand why people flock to Oia, with its labyrinth of alleys and narrows streets to easily get lost in, the beautiful and iconic blue domes, the magical sunsets and beautiful atmosphere the blue hour creates as the lights from the town’s cliff-side buildings start to flicker on.

If you are lucky enough to be staying in a hotel offering uninterrupted views of the Caldera then that can help beat the queues for a prime spot to watch the sunset over the Aegean’s horizon. If you are staying in hotels in Oia while visiting Santorini then you can scope out the best spots to watch the sunset without crowds of hundreds all rustling for the same spot.

If simply visiting for the day then stake out places earlier as it can get pretty hectic as people start to rush to the edge of the island just before sunset. I would highly recommend at least 2-3 days on the island to really get the most of it at a minimum. 1. Santorini’s Magical Sunsets By The Caldera – Sunset Watching in Oia

The magical sunsets alone draw enough crowds to Santorini, in comparison to those that come for the white-washed cave architecture. Yes, Santorini’s sunsets are just as magical where ever you happen to catch them, whether that is when sailing around the island, on the edge of Oia, along Akrotiri’s quieter viewpoints.

Many people will flock to Oia when they visit the island. In that case, you will need to scope out the best spots early when you visit the Oia or head to your chosen spot at least 30 minutes before sunset. Even better if you can grab yourself a glass of wine and take in the sunset in style, over a glass of bubbly.

2. Santorini’s Beautiful Church Domes

Many have dreamed of having blue dome churches as backdrops to wedding, engagement, honeymoon photos or in my case Instagram photos. Who wouldn’t want to explore the islands many blue domes that are scattered around Santorini, amid its white cubic architecture? Just not that most of these are hidden behind little alleyways, so if you see a lot of people disappearing into little alleyways then its highly likely they that’s where they are heading.

3. Explore Santorini Through Greek Food and Local Wines

If you are on a diet then you are on the wrong island because even Greek salads come with delicious Greek Feta cheese. The island has plenty of restaurants to cover all budgets gourmet restaurants serving up mezze platters, freshly caught seafood, locally sourced wines and topped off with Greek phyllo desserts and more sinful amounts of wine while coming up with reasons why you can’t just move to Santorini for a lifetime of island living.

Don’t be fooled into believing you have to head to Amoundi Bay for great seafood, Santorini is littered with plenty of options. 4. Luxury Shopping In Oia

Santorini among many Greek Islands is one that is known for its luxury and expensive hotels, and with that there are plenty of luxury boutiques to test your bank manager’s patience. For those with bank accounts that don’t seem to match daydreams of being draped in diamonds, there are plenty of shops to cater to you.

I fell in love with many a jewellery shop and walked away with more earrings to add to my crazy collection. While we are on the subject of shopping do not leave the island without testing some of the delicious gelatosato, or checking out the cute souvenir shops on the island.

5. Visit Santorini’s Best Beaches

Red sand beach, black sand beach, white sand beach and “normal” coloured sand beach, you will them all in Santorini. There plenty of beaches to keep even the fussiest of beachgoers like myself who prefer the less crowded beaches. 6. Santorini Boat Trips | Tour Santorini Sights and Activities

For a small island, it’s actually pretty packed with activities to keep you entertained. Aside from those mentioned above; Donkey rides up and down the island, take the cable cars (you can just about see them in one of the pictures with the donkeys above) to not only take in the sea views but quickly get up and down the island, you can indulge on a Santorini boat trips around the island.

Getting to and around Santorini

I have a guide to getting around in Santorini. If traveling from the UK like I was, you have 2 options. You can now travel directly to Santorini from London or travel to Athens then fly to Santorini. I have a detailed guide on how to travel from Athens to Santorini By ferry and another on how to get from Mykonos to Santorini.

For any other city check out Expedia, Momondo and Kayak to find the best flight deals from your city. You can also take the ferry from Athens which is range from 4 hours for the fast service or 7+ hours for the budget service. Getting around the island I have found to be a hit and miss. There is public transport but from what I have heard buses are never on time.

You can also rent a quad bike for about € 20 a day but if there are 2 or more of you I have found renting a car far more comfortable and economical. Parking is also free in many areas on the island. There are also plenty of tours on the island. Check out tours on Viator and Get Your Guide.

Get some shade in your life. More importantly, protect your eyes.

Mascara, brow kit, lip gloss

Less is more when it comes to make-up and hot weather. The last thing you want is having foundation and eyeshadow sweating off your face. For a fresh-faced look cleanse and tone, moisturise then shape the brow, a little mascara and lip gloss and you are good to good. That is pretty much all the make-up you will usually find in my bag when I travel in hot weather.

Hair moisture

For someone that had super dry hair I love Aveda, Kerastase and Qhemet Biologics in taming the mane in super drying weather.

After being in the sun all day. Add moisture back into the skin as well as protect any parts of your skin that may have been overexposed to the sun.

Scarf

Warm days and cooler nights. Packing a scarf or shawl will save you from that cold breeze on the evening stroll back to the hotel.

Sailing Santorini | The Best Catamaran Tours In Santorini

If you are heading to Santorini, then a catamaran tour in Santorini is a must! I am still dreaming about sailing Greek islands from our recent visit to Santorini. I am not sure about you, but the current weather situation in London has me wishing I was somewhere sunny. Luckily, I still have more pictures from sunny escapes over the summer.

One being my trip to Greece in July which saw my sister, one of her closest friends and I visit Greece, passing through Athens before ticking off a bucket list item of sailing Greek islands by way of beach hopping around beaches and caldera sailing tour of Santorini.

As popular as Santorini is for weekend getaways, Santorini honeymoons, beach vacations in Santorini for the guys and the girl’s getaway, it’s also small enough to get lost and have moments of peace and quiet without hordes of tourists on your path. Leaving London in search of sun, sea, and sand we were three girls hungry for shots of serotonin and what better place to dose up than sailing Greek islands in and around the island of Santorini?!

Santorini beaches have it all! The coolest way to beach hop, of course, is by way of a Santorini sailing tour. There are several options when it comes to sailing Greek islands and the tours available. The choice simply depends on your budget and comfort requirements.

You will have a choice between larger boats that cater to 50-100 on board, sunset sailing tours Santorini catamarans for between 6-36 people per boat.

While this option was suitable when we chartered a boat in Malta, this time around sailing the Greek islands, we opted for sailing tours in Santorini where the catamaran with numbers are limited to about 10 people, also choosing one with all adults on board.

The beauty of these tours is that you get to see most if not all of Santorini’s coolest beaches without crowds, your own chef on-board to serve up a seafood feast and while everyone is huddled up in Oia for the sunset, you get to see that sun go down at sea. An absolutely spectacular view!
