🇹🇭 Thailand Travel Planning Tips: What to Pack, Protect & Prepare

Thailand is a tropical dream — bustling cities, serene temples, island beaches, and jungle retreats. But before you zip up your suitcase, it’s worth planning for more than just what to wear. Here’s how to prep smartly for your Thai adventure while maximizing comfort, coverage, and savings.

1. Secure the Right Travel Insurance

Don’t leave home without it — the best travel insurance for trips to Thailand and Asia can protect you against everything from delayed flights to emergency evacuations. For broader coverage, look into plans categorized under the best travel insurance for Southeast Asia that include multiple stops or longer stays.

2. Don’t Forget Health Coverage

Healthcare in Thailand is affordable, but it’s still essential to have health insurance coverage for Thailand travel, especially if you’ll be doing more adventurous activities like island-hopping, hiking, or riding scooters. Check if your travel policy includes hospital visits, prescriptions, and COVID-related coverage.

3. Pack Light, Dress Smart

Thailand’s humidity calls for breezy clothing — think lightweight resort wear for tropical destinations. Flowy maxi dresses, cotton sets, breathable jumpsuits, and linen shirts are your best friends. Don’t forget a sunhat and slip-on sandals for beach days or temple visits.

4. Use the Right Card to Pay

Avoid sneaky fees by using travel credit cards with no foreign transaction fees. Many top-rated travel cards also offer perks like hotel discounts, travel insurance, and cashback on international purchases — perfect for shopping local markets or booking Thai massages.

5. Stay Connected the Smart Way

Whether you’re navigating Bangkok or looking for a beach café in Phuket, having data is key. Look for travel SIM cards with cashback offers, which often come with unlimited data packages and can be purchased in advance or on arrival.

Airbnb Alternatives – Heard of Vrbo?

A rental brand similar to Airbnb and under the Expedia brand. With the ever-changing cleaning fees and lack of customer service with Airbnb some renters’ experience, we have decided to update our posts with some options.

So, What Sets Airbnb and Vrbo Apart?

Best Souvenirs From Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Whatever your itinerary in KL, there is not missing out on some of the coolest markets and malls to explore in Malaysia’s captial. There are plenty of bargains to score and grab some cool souvenirs to bring back home from Kuala Lumpur.

Traditional Malaysian Garments – Batik

Scarves, blouses, dresses, paintings…  Batik garment is a truly unique gift, reflecting Malaysian culture, which is worth learning about. Batik is a method of decorating textiles through dye resistance, in which designs are created by preventing specific parts of a textile from being exposed to dye. The most popular motifs are leaves and flowers.

Malaysian batik depicting humans or animals are rare because Islam norms forbid animal images as decoration. However, the butterfly theme is a common exception. The Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals. For men, Batik can be worn at dinner functions.

Even the ladies wear the fabric as formal dress, combining batik with modern fashion. The Malaysian government even encourages civil servants to wear batik during the 1st and 15th day of the month. It is obvious that batik garments are an inseparable part of Malaysian culture.

Sculpture cut with laser. The Knick-knack Arch store specializes in portraits cut with Asian laser hair and patterns, made of wood plate and covers to create a 3D effect. You can buy these works of art in the form of framed paintings, portalapices, even slings for telephones. For a broader selection, visit the main store Arch in the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery.

ARCH – an official souvenir of Kuala Lumpur

ARCH is a premium Malaysian brand represented by an extraordinary range of Made In Malaysia gifts that aim to capture the uniqueness of the world’s greatest landmarks. ARCH was founded in 1989 to fabricate architectural scale models. In the late 90s, using the same expertise, technology, and machinery, ARCH diversified into the gift industry – filling the much-needed vacuum for premium quality corporate and tourist related gifts with distinctive detailing.

Antiques, vintage clothes, jewellery

With their quirky wares and the potential for hidden gems, various flea markets in Kuala Lumpur can be a great opportunity to find something unique, even with a long history. Apart from being an incredible shopping experience, flea markets are a great opportunity to learn about the way of life in Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur, its history, as well as to find a perfect gift or a souvenir for a loved one. You may look for kids’ toys, picture frames, various antiques, artwork, books, records, clothes… The beauty of flea markets is that you never know what you’ll find—and there’s always a chance you’ll find something fabulous. So, why not do it in Kuala Lumpur?

Sabah Pearls

When planning a trip to Malaysia and whichever city you are visiting, you simply cannot leave without Sabah pearls. Sabah, the state located in the Eastern part of Malaysia, is famous worldwide for its lovely clear waters and marine life. It is possible to purchase high-quality Sabah Pearls here in Kuala Lumpur at a bargain price. Try checking out the central market.

Kerongsang brooches

Kerongsang is typically worn by Malay women with their traditional Kebaya or Baju. This brooch usually holds the dress together in a decorative fashion. Embedded with colorful beads and stones, this is the perfect present for anyone that likes pretty little things! You usually buy Kerongsang as a set of three separate pieces, where each one is a different size.

Cucuk Sanggul

Another idea for a traditional souvenir is Cucuk Sangul, a hairpin made of silver or gold with a decorative end. Some have designs, others have images of mythical animals and creatures. The price ranges from at least RM100 to RM300 ($ 22-74) and more depending on the quality of the material. You may have to go to a specialty store to buy one. Normally, you should be able to find it in any wedding shop, as they are a popular wedding gift in Malaysia.

Handicrafts of the indigenous people

Asli Craft at Central Market sells handmade craft products by Malaysia’s different indigenous groups including rattan baskets, pandan bags and beaded purses from Sarawak, Mah Meri headpieces, blowpipes and fish-trap bamboo lampshades. Pandan is a wild plant of great cultural significance, used in a variety of ways. Pandan is used to add fragrance to food, such as rice and desserts, to wrap food before cooking, and of course to make woven products. Any of these products that you find will serve as a perfect souvenir from this country.

Wau – handmade kites

Before the arrival of the internet and virtual games, the children of Malaysia used to fly oversized kites as a form of entertainment, especially in smaller towns and villages. This would create a spectacular view, as the kites would sometimes fly so high they could be seen from the neighbouring villages. The structure of the wau is usually made of bamboo and is made by hand, while the intricate patterns and motifs, made of rice paper, are carefully glued on top one by one.

The Wau kite is quite large in size and it won’t be possible for you to carry one on board en route back home. Understanding this, shops like Ka50 at Central Market offer miniature Wau’s of different colors from RM20 or US$7 to RM30 or US10 apiece. Certain kites may go for up to a few hundred RM.

Boh Tea

Malaysia’s all-time favorite instant tea mix renowned for its zesty ripeness and rich (juicy/fruity) taste. Available in various flavors, including peach, lemon lime, caramel, teh tarik (hot milk tea) and more. Great tea experience for true tea lovers! Genuine product of Malaysia.

Traditional Malaysian Curry Paste, Spices & Sauces

A pre-cooked concentrated spicy paste from ground fresh spices, one of the best known delicacies of Malaysia! Made of natural ingredients, suited for vegetarian and vegan diet. Easy to handle – just mix the substance with boiling water, add coconut milk and bring to quick boil. Great addition to many dishes, especially noodles.

Chocolate with tropical fruits

Flavours include the famous durian as well as jackfruit and many others. You may not be able to bring the fruit back with you, but you can do it in the form of chocolate!

Places to look for gifts and souvenirs In Kuala Lumpur

The city offers more than 60 shopping centers to choose from. The most expensive places are in the big shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur, that are generally open from 10.30 to 21:30 (22:00). There you can find many top international and local brands. For high end fashion, the Bukit Bintang and KLCC areas provide the most variety, with upmarket malls such as Pavilion KL and Suria KLCC home to international brands such as Jimmy Choo, Diane Von Fürstenberg and Louis Vuitton. Meanwhile, shopping centres like Low Yat Plaza and Berjaya Times Square are great places to spend your ringgit on tech-related products, and indie fashion finds.

For those who are looking for a more unique and ethnic shopping experience, try Jalan Petaling and Central Market in Chinatown or Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur’s Little India – also known as the old Brickworks area.

An important tip for shopping in the markets:

As with the rest of Southeast Asia, you need to bargain in the markets to get a good price. But, only try your haggling skills in markets without fixed prices. Any shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, food courts and smaller shops with a price is what you pay. Just remember that if you get a receipt, you can’t ask for a lower price.

Some other interesting shops you can visit…

… if you are not a big fan of wandering through the maze that markets and huge shopping malls are:

Batik Boutique

The Batik Boutique promotes the ancient art form of batik, while partnering with local communities in Southeast Asia to bring about holistic transformation. Hand-made, beautiful batik products with a cause – empowering artisans in Malaysia. Products include scarves, bags, travel & accessories, home décor, corporate gifts, and even clutches.

Kinokuniya Book Store

A huge book store located at Suria KLCC. Popular with bookworms, Kinokuniya offers a large selection of books catering to almost every type of reader here. It’s rare that you can’t get the book you want, but the efficient staff is always on hand to assist with orders. With two floors, the upper level is specifically dedicated to art and design books and magazines, with a cosy cafe in the corner too.

Peter Hoe Beyond

Peter Hoe Beyond is a store along Jalan Doraisamy (also known as The Row KL) with a lovely collection of homeware, clothes and souvenirs. It’s divided into three colourful sections: a retail store, boutique and café. Fusing Asian and modern style, some of the best things to buy here include colourful, woven rattan baskets and place mats in bold colours and designs as well as flowery shirts, batik print pareos and scarves.

Kia Klemenz Gifs & Souvenirs

The perfect boutique for your all-season shopping, with carefully selected crafts, unique gifts, souvenirs, batik paintings, garments and decorative items.

Southeast Asia 3 Week Itinerary

Below is a detailed guide for how to do Southeast Asia itinerary in 3 weeks.

WEEK 1 Beijing & Siem Reap

Day 1-2 in Beijing

The 3 weeks in Asia kicks off with Beijing. Getting to Beijing is easier than you think since it has access via air from airports across the world like that of Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Delhi, etc. We had flown in from Budapest but have just easily done this is from London.

Since the next stop is Cambodia after Beijing, you can apply for 72-Hour visa exemption at the Beijing Capital Airport. Using this free visa, you can travel through Beijing and visit the local sights. However, this 72-Hour visa exemption will be applicable to the people from selected countries only. So, make sure that you read my post for additional details as you apply for the visa to Beijing and even as you purchase the next ticket to Cambodia. This gives you around two days and a half in Beijing, which will allow you to travel through top tourist attractions in Beijing.

The Forbidden City and Imperial Palace: The first destination to explore on foot has to be the sprawling and mystifying palace that has been around since the illustrious Ming dynasty. There plenty of tours in Beijing to help you make the most of your time. Of course, the actual palace had been burnt and then in the 18th century, it was built back to its present glory.

One thing that you will find is its impressive facade and glamour complete with interesting murals and artistic decor everywhere you see. The absence of the trees in the main central courtyard will be revealed before you the actual dimensions of the palace. Many gates have nine gilded and very ornately decorated doors.

The names that these gates and halls have like the Gate of Divine Prowess, the Meridian Gate, are sure to inspire you in some way or the other. The Five marble bridges and the highly decorated gold throne of the Imperial Palace are all things to take snaps and stows away in your memory.

From here, visiting yet another marvel is The Great Wall of China. However, as you travel to the historic spot, you can have a platter of the famous dumplings or Peking Roast Duck. There are scores of malls and markets within the city that you might drop in to have a grand time shopping.

southeast asia itinerary 3 weeks

The Great Wall of China: It is an architectural wonder and the only manmade monument that is visible to space. This is truly something and when you visit it, the wall is going to astound you. Of course, you cannot walk the entire length, but you can surely visit a portion of the wall that passes through the north of Beijing city. The wall gets names to the places it passes through, and so you can visit one of the sections like Badaling Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall, Simatai Great Wall that passes through Beijing. The opening times of these sections through the wall are different, and so it is better to get a  tour to Great Wall or a local guidebook or the tour operators for a drive to these sections of the wall.

One of the Zhou dynasty’s dukes between 770 and 221BC commissioned the wall. Then the actual work and the Great Wall that we see today came up during the Ming dynasty. Through the length from the wall, there are watchtowers and fortresses to ensure that the earlier monarchs kept an eye open for the advancing enemies.

A captivating visual treat is this visit to the Great Wall. The entry is closed for the evening, and so you must not make a plan to visit it very late in the evening.

Tian’anmen Square: The “Gate of Heavenly Peace” or Tian’anmen Square is one of the highlights of Beijing city. As a city center, Tian’anmen Square played a major role throughout the Chinese history. This is one of the largest squares of its kind throughout the world for the biggest rallies and parades. The Gate of Heavenly Peace of Tian’anmen Square gate is on one side, and the Great Hall of the People on the other side makes it a stunning place to visit at sunset. You can see the hoisting of the Chinese flag in the morning and the lowering of it in the evening completely in a ceremonial way.

As you wrap up your stay in Beijing, try to visit one of the many markets in Beijing like Panjiayuan Flea Market, Hongqiao Pearl Market and more to shop for everything from superior bags, fashionable clothes, and other accessories. After all of these, you can get ready for your next Southeast Asian destination of Cambodia.

Day 3-7 In Cambodia

The country of Cambodia is located in Southeast Asia, and it is a peninsula, which has Laos on one side, Thailand on the other and Vietnam on the third side. The Khmer Dynasty ruled over the country for over 600 years during which the country had developed culturally and otherwise. It saw the influx of two very popular religions Hinduism and Buddhism leading to the rise of many majestic temples that you must certainly make a point to visit.

Day 3 and Day 4 Sihanoukville: Sihanoukville in the north has a plethora of beaches, and if you cannot do without your dose of beaches, then this is where you can stay and start with first. There are many beaches in this strip like the Koh Pos. There is a small bridge leading you from the mainland to the Koh Pos where you can simply relax by the beach or visit one of the shacks and dive in some of the fantastic seafood like Fish Amok, Kampot Pepper Crab, or other delicacies like Khmer Red Curry, or Nom Banh Chok in its genuine form.

Among the beaches, Cambodia will not disappoint and here in the Sihanoukville area itself, you can find Victory Beach, The Serendipity Beach, Ochheuteal Beach, and other such beaches.

Day 5 -7  Siem Reap: Your 3 weeks in SE Asia is incomplete without a visit to Siem Reap. Besides the beaches and the abundance of it, there are other attractions like the Angkor Wat temples. Head off to Siem Reap by air or by road as per your wish and time. Siem Reap has a great concentration of temples that have Hindu roots and even strains of earliest Buddhist art and architecture flowing around.

Angkor Wat temples in Cambodia are an attraction and is one of the iconic symbols of Cambodia in any tour guidebook. The Angkor Wat temples are one-of-a-kind and nothing left in the world like these in Cambodia. The Ta Prohm temple in Siem Reap is among the most famous temples as it was featured in the Tomb Raider movie. The temple submerged in the tight embrace of trees within a forest is what adds to the beauty of this temple.

Last but not the least, the Preah Khan temple is another important place that you might wish to visit whose architectural genius will stay with you for a lifetime. There are plenty of things to do in Siem Reap beyond Angkor Wat temples too. In addition, I have also shared tips on the best locations to stay in Siem Reap.

WEEK 2 – Thailand, Bangkok, Phuket

Day 8-11 Bangkok: Now that you have had your fill of the mystic land of Cambodia, get ready to enjoy more of it,  and embrace the stark diversity as you enter Thailand. While Cambodia has, a charm of its own, Thailand is more boisterous as a tourist spot, and it does not disguise its intentions at any cost.

So, the first stop in Thailand will be in the bright and welcoming capital of Bangkok. Here you can spend at least 2 days. The city has gained fame for its beach resorts, and the massage and Thai spas that everyone in the world knows about. You too can start your trip on a refreshing note by signing up for a spa here. I have shared a guide on the best areas to stay in Bangkok to make the process of finding a place easy. If you do stay in Bangkok longer, I highly recommend considering Airbnbs in Bangkok. Then you can proceed with your sightseeing trip in Bangkok.

The golden temple dome of Wat Arun must definitely be on your trip. Stop by and find yourself drawn to this magnificent shimmery gold temple located by the Chao Phraya river.

If it is not yet noon, then you can surely visit the Grand Palace and even stop by to pray and be more mesmerized by the Emerald Buddha temple. Now that the day is coming to an end, a trip to the most beautiful Bangkok Ocean World will reveal before you the best marine life that thrives in these parts.

Begin the next day with a trip to the Wat Pho temple, where you can find a golden statue of reclining Buddha. This is a must-visit on your trip here.

The next must-go to destination is the Floating market, at the Khlong Lat Mayom, or the Bang Khu or various other places. You can try one of their local fruit juices or simply hang around to experience. There are plenty of tours from Bangkok to the floating market I recommend leaving early!

Next, you can proceed to shop like crazy in one of the many markets and malls. The bustling Chinatown or the Chatuchak markets every weekend are the ideal hubs to shop for anything local. My Bangkok & Phuket itinerary also shares tips on cool things to do in Bangkok at night.

The stunning rocky cliff emerging out of the waters and more of beautiful shoreline will wow you here.

From here if you go to Patong City, then do not forget to stroll through the bright Soi Bangla road where you can get the best of pubs, bars, cabarets and everything in between. You can even spend a day exploring the Portuguese homes of the Old Town part from the city.

You can spend a day here, exploring many caves and dense forests along the beach that overlooks one of the best beaches in these parts. Nha Trang is another grandly picturesque spot that you must not miss. Besides the beaches, there are mountains and plenty of tourist attractions to entertain you for those wishing to explore for longer.

After the beaches, you can check out the urbanized region of Hanoi. Here, you can come across the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, and the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh will take you to the pre-independence era. A day trip to Ho Chi Minh City will be a great option for you to check out the World War memorials and explore the local markets and nightlife that set a pace with the city. The Perfect Itinerary For Bangkok And Phuket

May 29, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations; famous for its temples, cuisine, nightlife, and the ability to cater to people with all kinds of budgets.

Bangkok and Phuket are the two most visited Thai cities and I have just the perfect Bangkok and Phuket itinerary for seeing the most of these two amazing places to visit in Thailand. Now I have already shared reasons why you will love Bangkok as well as an extended 3 week Thailand itinerary.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Planning Your Trip To Thailand

  • Flights: I highly recommend arriving in Bangkok than Phuket to save you on too many connections unless you are already in Asia. We live in London so we explored Cambodia, China before arriving in Thailand. We could just have easily got flights from London to Bangkok. You can find most major airlines on Expedia flying from major cities into Thailand. Also once you are in Thailand, Air Asia had stupidly cheap flights from Bangkok to Phuket too.

  • Hotels: I have shared posts on where we stayed in both Bangkok and a variety of hotels we experienced in Phuket from budget at Gold Diggers Resort to mid-range at Ikon Hotel and then our luxury villa at Renaissance Hotel located right on the beach. Where you stay will very much depend on your travel budget but another reason this side of the world is popular is how cheap it it is. I have shared extensive guides on best areas to stay in Bangkok and best areas to stay in Phuket with hotel recommendations too to make choosing something easier.

  • Tours: I have shared tips on amazing tours in Bangkok that won’t break the bank and a great way to maximise your Bangkok itinerary.
  • Food: Gastronomy in Thailand is out of this world! Food alone is also a great reason to visit. From street food to amazing restaurants.

  • Transport: Getting around Bangkok is super easy as there are plenty of transportation options. Trains, tuk-tuks and taxis. Thus a word of warning though, also make sure you check or negotiate the price on the tuk-tuk before getting on. The same for the taxi or insist on the drive using the meter to avoid being taken for a ride! No pun intended. 🙂

  • Budget: When it comes to budget this is a difficult one to one to estimate as my style of travel or type of hotels may not be the same hence the variety of options on the blog to help you travel within your means and budget. Food is cheap, transport is cheap, services are cheap, hotels are plenty from budget to luxe with plenty of options for cool Airbnbs in Bangkok if you want a home from home feel.

  • Packing List: While this is an amazing country for beach and adventure holidays please adhere to local customs and rules when it comes to what to wear when visiting temples. For additional inspiration on what to pack for Thailand see tips on the linked post and here.

Thailand Itinerary For Bangkok And Phuket

While Bangkok and Phuket are the main focus you cannot head to Phuket without exploring the Phi Phi islands. With that in mind I have also included excursions to make this a Bangkok Phuket and  Phi Phi itinerary/.

DAY 1 Bangkok

Day 1 in Bangkok would be all about exploring the temples and other historical monuments here. Bangkok has a lot of temples because it is a predominantly Buddhist country. When visiting temples, make sure to dress appropriately, that is, covering your body adequately. Many places may not permit you if inappropriately dressed.

Chao Phraya River Cruise

Chao Phrya River is the river that flows from the mid of Bangkok. Most people prefer having a dinner cruise for Chao Phrya River but for this itinerary, the best time for this river cruise would be early morning or afternoon.

Chao Phrya River cruise would allow you to witness sky-scraping towers of Bangkok with the crisp early morning orange sun rays shining upon them.

Also, since Bangkok can get pretty hot and humid during the day, in the morning the weather would be pleasant enough for you to cruise the river.

Your Chao Phrya river cruise would start from Sathorn Pier. You can either hire private tours or take ferries just like the majority of the public. Along the bank of the river, you would find a lot of chic restaurants, wooded houses, and temples.

You can grab something to eat from any of the stalls or have breakfast prior to cruising in any of the restaurants near Sathorn Pier.

Or, after the cruise, you could treat yourself to some royalty at Michelin starred restaurant Blue Elephant that has franchises all over the world, promoting exquisite Thai cuisine with a colonial façade.

Grand Palace

Bangkok’s Grand Palace surely lives up to its name since the palace complex consists of about 100 buildings. It was constructed in 1782 and served as a royal residence in the past.

Now, the royals use it for special ceremonies only and it is available for public tours most of the time (from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm) for 500 baht.

Grand palace and the buildings inside it are built as per traditional Thai architecture techniques, decorated with gold and diamonds. The palace’s center is the temple of Emerald Buddha I.e.

Wat Phra Kaeu, which holds significant importance in Buddhism community and Buddhists from all over the world visit the temple to pay their respects to the Emerald Buddha.

For an in-depth exploring of the palace since it is huge, you can also hire a guide when buying tickets. I have tips on visiting Grand Palace in addition to what to wear.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Wat Pho

When you are done exploring the grand palace, hire a ferry or simply walk towards Wat Pho – the temple of reclining Buddha since it is at a distance of ten minutes.

In this temple you will see the enormous (15m tall and 46m long) reclining Buddha plated with gold and ornamented with jewels, lying in the nirvana position.

Wat Pho is also the official school for teaching authentic Thai massage and Thai medicine. And when in Thailand, it is a must to get the relaxing Thai massage and there is no better place than this to get it.

Wat Pho is open every day from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm and the ticket costs 300 baht. If you feel hungry by now, there is a small eatery near Wat Pho, The Sixth, serving delicious Thai dishes. There are plenty of tours for Wat Pho that combine ferry, guide and other additions.

Wat Arun

Now take a ferry to visit Wat Arun, the temple of Dawn. This temple would leave you in awe; there is a majestic Khmer style tower in the center that has stairs.

Climb the stairs to reach the top and get a striking view of the city from up there. Visiting hours are 8.30 am to 6.00 pm and the ticket price is 100 baht.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Chinatown

The best way to spend your first night in Bangkok is roaming the streets of Chinatown. Located on the opposite side of Wat Arun, across the river, this place essentially wakes up when the sun sets down.

It is also one of the oldest areas in Bangkok, which means you will see old temples, buildings, markets, Cantonese style houses and narrow streets lined with stalls.

Chinatown is filled with upscale chic eateries as well as small stalls that serve delicious authentic Thai food. Some very famous food options are curry at Jek Pui Curry, Crab noodle soup at Odean, oyster omelet at Nai Mong Hoi Thod, duck noodle soup at Nai Mao Duck Noodle and traditional Thai desserts at Sweet Time. If you are in a mood for a drink or two, visit the rooftop bar of Sky View 360° Restaurant.

DAY 2 Bangkok

The second day in Bangkok would be all about shopping since there are a lot of markets and shopping malls in Bangkok.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

Chatuchak weekend market is the biggest market in the world and there is literally nothing that you cannot find here. With that said, also know that it is very easy to get intimidated by this place because it is huge, always crowded and hot and humid most of the time.

It is open on Saturdays and Sundays only. Head to this place as soon as you wake up. It is divided into 27 sections. The art section has great paintings and ornaments made by locals which would make great souvenirs.

There are many restaurants and food stalls in case you get hungry. However, don’t forget to try the infamous coconut ice-cream, Spanish paella and of course, Pad Thai.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Siam

If Chatuchak becomes too hot and crowded for you to handle, or you are not in Bangkok for the weekend, you can opt to go to Siam instead. Siam is the shopping hub of Bangkok.

Apart from having air-conditioned shops, local and international brands, restaurants and spas, each mall has a unique element of its own.

Siam Paragon shopping mall has South-east Asia’s largest aquarium, Central World has an ice-skating rink, Siam Center has televisions to display how an outfit would look on you without even wearing it, Siam Discovery has Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

Near Siam Square, you will find Jim Thompson’s house, an American who significantly promoted Thai silk trade. His house is converted into a museum; there are a souvenir shop and a nice restaurant as well. 200 baht entry ticket also includes a Thai traditional dance performance in addition to the guide of the monument.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Asiatique Market

Bangkok has a lot of night exclusive-markets. Asiatique is a relatively new market that starts from 4pm until 12 am.

Here you will find souvenir items since this market was constructed to target tourists. There are many restaurants and pubs as well; and also, a Paris Wheel.

Bar With A View – Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar

Bangkok has an amazing nightlife option from nightclubs, bars, and restaurants with not only an amazing view but great food too.

My favourite though were the cool rooftop bars. Time Out has an amazing guide on rooftop bars in Bangkok if you need inspiration on where to hang out at night in Bangkok.

DAY 3 Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Floating markets are very common in Southeast Asia, and there are many in Bangkok. Visit Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in the morning and start your day with the vibrant meals that vendors make while paddling the boat.

You should also try the exotic Asian fruits and vegetable, which you might have not seen before. Boats’ fare can range from 200 to 800 baht.

Lumphini Park

Lumphini Park is Bangkok’s biggest and greenest park. It is swamped by locals as well as tourists; to make the most out of this serene place amidst the metropolitan. Take a stroll over here in order to relax and unwind a bit.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Wat Saket

At 10 minutes’ drive, the Golden Mountain temple is located. It is named so because of its location, which is on top of a mall hill and you need to climb 344 steps.

On the way up to the temple, you would find small statues of smiling Buddhas and big bells. When you reach the top, you will be mesmerized by the view up there. Near Wat Saket, there is a restaurant called Thip Samai which quite famous for its Pad Thai.

Vertigo-Banyan Tree Hotel

Your last night in Bangkok calls for a rooftop drink. Vertigo and Moon bar is located on the 61st floor of Banyan Tree Hotel. Apart from world-class champagne, the place restaurant offers exquisite seafood items as well.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

DAY 4 Phuket

Take a morning flight from Bangkok and spend your first day exploring Phuket and its culture. If you happen to start with Phuket but layover in Bangkok, check out my guide on things to do at Bangkok Airport.

Bang Tao Beach

Phuket is known for its beaches and resorts. Bang Tao Beach is one of the biggest beaches in Phuket. The water is pristine and the sand is clean.

The best part is, this beach is less crowded and quieter as compared to other beaches in Phuket. Hence, have your perfect sea-side morning on this beach. There are a few top-notch restaurants and resorts over here as well.

Old Phuket Town

Old Phuket Town has a rustic charm to it; you will love strolling down the colorful streets that are full of life and speak of Thailand’s vibrant culture. Thalang Road is lined with houses and shops from the 18th century, built-in colonial-Portuguese style.

You will find many art stores, coffee shops, and handicraft stores in Phuket old town. Bohemian Arthouse is a small and cozy café cum art gallery cum bookstore. Tu Kab Khao is a restaurant that has a Victorian façade and offers Southern Thai cuisine.

Siam Niramit

Siam Niramit is a Thai cultural performance; the show is 80 minutes long and consists of intricate sets, heavily-costumed actors and animals; that depicts Thailand’s traditional culture with reference to history.

You can also opt for the pre-shoe buffet; which has an extensive menu consisting of local and international cuisines. Tickets prices start from 1200 baht.

DAY 5 Phuket

Day 2 is all about adventures in Phuket. I have talked about unmissable experiences in Phuket here but below is additional inspiration and if you want to dedicate at least 5 days to Phuket alone then I have the perfect Phuket itinerary.

Phuket Freshwater Fishing Park

Phuket Freshwater Fishing Park has pretty big fishes in its waters and doesn’t matter if you have no experience with fishing, the staff would be more than happy to guide you and give you tips and tricks for catching an enormous fish. There is an on-site restaurant as well.

Flying Hanuman

If you are an adventure junkie, you would love zip-lining through the dense jungles of Phuket. Flying Hanuman offers various zip-lining packages, they are super popular with tourists so visit their website to have more information.

Windmill viewpoint

Nothing better than watching the sunset quietly on the island’s shore. Windmill viewpoint is a lesser-visited viewpoint which means you get to witness the sunset on Andaman sea in full romantic mode.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Pa Tong

Head to Pa Tong beach to have dinner at any of the chic restaurants that line it and you can spend your night there chilling at the beach.

You can take a stroll on the Bangla road which is famous for its nightlife. There are nightclubs and outdoor bars to enjoy the night with a drink or two.

DAY 6 Phuket

Visit the famous tourist spots in Phuket on day 3. If you are visiting Phuket for a honeymoon of looking for inspiration on the perfect couples guide to Phuket.

Bang Pae waterfall

Bang Pae waterfall is the largest waterfall in Phuket island. Going to this waterfall early in the morning can give you some freshness by acquiescing yourself to the mother nature. You can dip in the water; it is cold and clean and there are fish inside.

Upside-down House

Baan Teelanka is a major tourist attraction in Phuket island. It is a three-story house in which the furniture is installed upside down.

You might feel a bit dizzy but this place is a must if you want cool Instagram pictures. The entrance in the house costs 340 baht. There is a mall, central festival, at 8 minutes’ drive. You can go there to grab something to eat in the food court or for some retail therapy.

How to plan the perfect Bangkoks and Phuket itinerary. Phi Phi island and Krabi day trips

Big Buddha

Big Buddha statue is located on top of Nakkerd Hills, so you can hire an ACV bike to reach the statue. Later, you can head to Nakkerd sea-view restaurant which offers good food at affordable rates.

Chalong Bay Distillery

This place produces quality rum from 100% sugarcane using traditional techniques. You can join a tour to explore the place or take part in cocktail classes.

Monkey Hill

You might feel heavy after gulping down all the rum so why not burn it off by going to the monkey hill. You will find many monkeys who are used to getting fed. But be vigilant of your stuff as monkeys can take your belongings away in the blink of an eye.

Nam Yoi restaurant is located near the monkey hill which offers delicious Southern Thai food. Try their famous tom yum soup with seabass for dinner.

DAY 7 – Phi Phi Islands Day Trip From Phuket

At Rassada Pier, ferries are available for traveling to Phi Phi islands. Reach there early in the morning to spend the whole day on this archipelago. There are a lot of things you can do in a one-day Phi Phi excursion:

• Have a dip in the clean waters of Pileh Bay Lagoon. Pileh Bay’s sandy beach is also an attraction to just lay down and soak in the sun.

• Hike to the Phi Phi viewpoint which offers stunning views of the island.

• Diving is one of the most popular activities on Phi Phi islands. King Cruiser wreck and shark point are two famous diving points.

• Kayaking is another water sport, offered at Tonsai beach and Loh Dalam Bay.

• Stroll around Tonsai village, you will find restaurants, souvenir shops, art galleries, and tattoo parlors.

• Spend your night partying on the beach-side open-air bars like Slinky Bar and Apache Beach Bar.

You can either book your own private boat or book a tour the day before so that they can pick you up from your hotel early in the morning. I shared tips on out tours to Phi Phi Islands as well as Phang Nga Bay for James Bond Island.

How To Travel From Phuket To Bangkok – Flight Bus Car

Below are some tips on how to get to Phuket from Bangkok with journey duration times. I also recommend use the Omio website as that will give you information on one page with different modes of transportation, costs, duration provided by various airlines, bus and taxi options.

Bangkok to Phuket distance: 844Km

Bangkok to Phuket via train: There is currently no option for a train from Bangkok to Phuket.

Bangkok to Phuket via bus: Note that this is a long trip! The Bangkok to Phuket bus fare is £29.68 and the journey is 14 hours! For that price I would recommend you just fly as the price for the bus and flight are not too far off. It is cheaper to fly to Phuket from Bangkok as you can easily get flights from £20.

Bangkok to Phuket by plane: You can easily fly from Bangkok to Phuket and the flights are only 1 hour and 20 minutes. Flight fare prices are from around £20 and you can find airlines like NokAir, ThaiVietAir, Air Asia and more flying that route on Omio or Expedia.

Bangkok to Phuket via ferry: There is currently no option for this as the two are on opposite sides of Thailand coastlines.

How Many Days In Bangkok and Phuket Is Enough?

So, how many days in Bangkok and Phuket is enough? Well if you consider that a flight from London is some 15 hours when you arrive, you will likely be tired and possibly jetlagged.

At a minimum, you will need at least 2 days for Bangkok and a day trip or tour just outside Bangkok to markets and other nearby temples on the outskirts.

Then, there is Phuket, from Bangkok its only 1 hour 2o minutes so easy to get to by plane. As far as how long you stay, I would recommend at least for days minimum.

Why? You will need a full day for the Phi Phi island tour, a day for the Phang Nga tour and then the other two days are for exploring the markets and Old Town of Phuket and then Patong and beaches.

I would say ideally best to do two weeks in Thailand and if possible extend to 3 and for inspiration see my post on 3 weeks in Thailand.

Bangkok And Phuket Package Tours

I love the movies and sometimes if you are travelling around there is nothing cooler than experience movie nights abroad. where to stay for couples in Singapore

Where To Stay In Singapore For Couples

There are plenty of places to stay in Singapore but for someplace I highly recommend booking well in advance. Particularly during holiday periods like new years, Christmas, summer and when there are particular events in the city. Below are some recommendations for places to stay for couples in Singapore:

Budget with a slice of cool:

If you are doing romance on a budget but want something impressive then I highly recommend the MET A Space Pod @ Boat Quay. This little gem offers space-themed accommodation conveniently located in the heart of Singapore about 650 yards from Raffles Place Station. You sleep in fully-equipped space pods, all fitted with power sockets, mirrors and USB charging stations. If this branch is already booked check the Galaxy Pods in Chinatown.

Mid-range Hotels In Singapore:

You can find many hotels offering decent prices for say 3 nights in Singapore at around £215 and upwards. Check out Ibis Budget Singapore Clarke Quay, Hotel Chancellor@Orchard, The Quay Hotel, and the very super cool YOTEL Singapore on Orchard Road all over amazing chic accommodation perfect for a couples’s city getaway.

Luxury Hotel In Singapore for Couples:

If you have your eyes firmly set on the infinity pool with views across Singapore then a stay are Marina Bay Sands is a must for any couple visiting Singapore! The earlier you book the better the prices. The cheapest we have ever seen was around £300 per night. Failing that, I suggest a stay at InterContinental Hotel, Shangri La Restore and Spa on Sentosa Island, Swissotel on Stamford or Marina Mandarin . Mandarin is one of my favourite hotels. We had an amazing time at the Mandarin in Kula Lumpur before we made it to Singapore.

What To Wear In Cambodia – The Perfect Packing List

October 12, 2019 by admin 6 Comments

What to wear in cambodia - packing lists - Tips on what to pack for Cambodia. Cambodia outfit ideas, what to pack for travel to Cambodia. Dress code and what to wear in Angkor Wat. #style #siemreap #phnompenh #angkorwat #pubstreet what to pack for cambodia what to wear

Going to Cambodia for the first time and wondering what to wear in Cambodia? When it comes to what to pack for Cambodia for any season, its best to pack lightweight clothing and natural fabrics. The dress code in Cambodia is fairly relaxed but remember that many of the temples are still frequented by Buddhas so best to be respectable and wear suitable clothing. Also, be sure to read my post on things to know before visiting Cambodia for other things to be aware of in planning a trip to Cambodia.

As for what to wear in Cambodia when not temple running you can wear pretty much whatever you want, within reason. However, it is advisable to cover arms and legs in the evenings because of biting insects. Also if you are visiting temples, particularly Angkor Wat, because of the moat, there is a high risk of mosquitoes. I had quite a few bits on my legs so make sure you are covered and bring repellent. More on this and other things to pack for your trip to Cambodia continue reading. Below is a packing list for Cambodia in addition to some essential items to pack whether visiting Cambodia in December, January or even July.

What To Pack For Cambodia / What To Wear In Cambodia

Whether an itinerary trip for 7 days in Cambodia or longer, Cambodia is a tropical place and as a result, it is always sunny all year round, hence, your packing list for travel to Cambodia should consist of light clothes. Pack t-shirts, tank tops, shorts(not for temples), free trousers, beach shirts, maxi dresses, etc.

It is important to note that Cambodia is a mostly Buddhist country with conservative people who believe in modest dressing.

Most Cambodians don’t wear anything that will expose their shoulders and knees. Bear in mind that while it’s not common, you may not be allowed to enter the temples if your shoulders and knees are not covered. Whether you are putting together the perfect Cambodia backpacking packing list, its best to include some short and long-sleeved items.

Weather In Cambodia

Cambodia has two distinctive seasons; the rainy season from June to October and the dry season from November to May. Travelling during the rainy season has its benefits as the temple moats in Siem Reap are full, making for great photos but during the dry season, they artificially fill them which can be a bit of a disappointment as I learned. Visiting Cambodia in the dry season, in my opinion, is a lot easier, especially when it comes to exploring the temples which have a somewhat jungle terrain that you don’t want to do in wet seasons. The temperatures for the most part in all seasons of Cambodia remain around 30-35°C during the day time.

The northeast monsoon season: This lasts from December to April, and the weather is dry and sunny. Be sure to bring your sunglasses and a portable fan although you can buy the latter cheaply at the markets while shopping for souvenirs in Cambodia. Bring some lip balm too because of the dryness. When it comes to what to wear in Cambodia in April and during this season remember, the weather gets very hot, so pack light and airy items that aren’t too revealing.

The southwest monsoon season: From May to November, the rains start. September and October are especially rainy, so bring waterproof items and an umbrella. That weather is also more humid in this period. You will get some dry spells so just bear in mind when thinking of what to pack for Cambodia in February, March or May.

Cambodia Packing List

  • Dresses – Maxi dresses and midis.
  • Sarong – this is a traditional Cambodian wrapper that can serve as a curtain, a blanket, etc. You can also tie it around your waist to cover up to your knee when you want to visit any temple in the country.
  • Scarf or light wrap – you can use this for covering your shoulders when visiting temples of in the evenings when the temperature drops.
  • Sun Hat – great for protection against the sun. You can take more than one to match with your dressing.
  • Sunglasses – an essential item you need to have with you when you are in the tropics.
  • Swimwear – there are many beautiful beaches in the country, going to Cambodia and not experiencing its beaches is like cutting off half of the fun. Pack your swimwear with you and have as much fun as you can.
  • Flip flops and comfortable walking sandals – beaches are sandy, hence no other footwear but flip flops can make you comfortable.
  • Comfortable walking shoes – these will make comfortable walking around the temples, pack one or two, depending on how long you intend to stay in Cambodia.
  • Waterproof Jacket– while it may be sunny every day in Cambodia,  you may get rain, especially if you go there during the rainy season. Better prepared than sorry, right?
  • Cardigan – the weather will often get cold at night, especially during the rainy season and because you will be surrounded by trees. Take a sweatshirt or hoodie, anything that can prevent you from getting cold.

Other Essentials To Pack For Cambodia

  • Duffel bag or backpack – Osprey backpacks are quite popular for trips because of the convenience they provide. Get one main backpack that is big enough for all your load, and a smaller one that you can carry around when you’re in Cambodia.
  • Unblocked phone – Buy or bring an unlocked phone that can work with a Cambodian sim card.
  • Universal charger – Well, you don’t want to get to Cambodia and start looking for where you can buy one. So, pack a universal charger with you.
  • Universal adapter – You also need this to make it easier for you to plug in your devices to sockets and extensions.
  • Power bank – You may be out hiking and need to recharge your phone or may be in a location where there’s no electricity.
  • Travel Torch – This will be a backup for your mobile phone torch. Essential if you want to head to Angkor Wat for sunrise. People get there when its still very dark. Pro-Tip. Scope out a good spot the day before if possible.

Stay Healthy – Essentials To Pack For Cambodia

  • Mosquito repellent – Cambodia is a tropical country and that means that there are always mosquitoes in both daytime and nighttime. To avoid mosquito bite and itchiness from their bites, take a mosquito repellent with you. Make sure you have enough to last you all your time in the country. Also, consider wearing mosquito repellent wristbands.
  • Sunscreen – there are two weather seasons in Cambodia, rainy season which starts from May to September, and dry season which starts from November to March. However, the weather season doesn’t matter so much because the sun in Cambodia is always brutally scorching all year long. So, take your favourite sunscreen with you.
  • Medication – taking with you essential drugs when travelling is a life hack, it helps to manage well during health emergencies. For example, Cambodia meals may be tasty, but your body may react poorly to them. To be on the safe side, you can pack drugs for indigestion such as Gaviscon, and Imodium for diarrhea.
  • Hand sanitizer – you won’t always have clean water and soap with you when you are enjoying the beautiful sceneries of Cambodia. Hand sanitizer will come handy when you need to rid your hands off germs.
  • Travel first aid kit – get this at a pharmacy in your country before you board the plane. You will need it when you get small cuts and bruises. Items in it, such as spirit for cleaning bruises and band-aids, can protect against infections.
  • Toiletries – shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving powder, deodorant, tampons, sanitary pads, etc. Take as much as you need for all your time in the country so you don’t run out of toiletries.
  • LifeStraw – this is for filtering water before you drink.

Note: It’s not advisable to drink tap water but bottled mineral water in safe and available pretty much everywhere. Also, keep in mind when buying drinks in cafes or restaurants they some may serve it with ice cubes. Ask if they use tap water otherwise avoid them altogether.

  • Foldable Reusable Water Bottle – stay hydrated!(Easy to pack too)
  • Get Travel insurance – while Cambodia has become one of the most loved tourist destinations in the world, it is still far behind on social amenities such as health. To be on the safe side, sign up for a travel health insurance that covers Cambodia before you board the plane. Should you need healthcare, your insurance will cover you – giving that the nearest standard healthcare you will get is in Bangkok, Thailand.
