Iceland Packing Tips

In addition to tips below I have shared separate posts with recommendations for shoes to pack for Iceland, the best thermals and gloves as well as a full packing list post for Iceland.

When packing for Iceland, consider the following essentials to adapt to the country’s unique weather:

  1. Layers Are Your Best Friend: The weather in Iceland can be unpredictable, even in summer. Layering allows you to adjust your outfit according to the temperature changes throughout the day.
  2. Waterproof Everything: From jackets to boots, waterproof clothing is essential due to frequent rain and the possibility of snow.
  3. Comfortable Footwear: Opt for sturdy, waterproof hiking boots for outdoor adventures, and a pair of comfortable sneakers or casual boots for city strolls.
  4. Warm Accessories: Hats, gloves, and scarves are crucial, especially if you’re visiting during the winter months.
  5. Swimwear: Don’t forget your swimwear for the geothermal pools and the famous Blue Lagoon.

* Note that you may be able to get away with less layers while exploring in Reykjavik because the city is shielded by building, that may not be the case in other open areas around the country.
