February 20, 2019 by admin 4 Comments

One of my favourite countries in the world, if you are a foodie then Italy is simply heaven! I have visited many of Italy’s cities and no matter how many times you visit there is always something new to discover.

Below I take you through popular souvenirs from Italy; the best souvenirs to buy in Florence, Venice Italy souvenirs, souvenirs from Rome, Bologna, Milan and more. Covering everything from food, leather goods, glass, jewellery apart from cars of course but if you have the cash, might I suggest you pass by Bologna and bring yourself back a Lamborghini?

Top 10 Souvenirs From Italy | Top Souvenirs To Bring Home From Italy

If you are looking for great ideas on most popular souvenirs from Italy, things to bring back from Italy or even what are the best souvenirs from Italy then you are in the right place as this post talk about the best gifts from each of Italy’s famous cites.

Think the best souvenirs from Rome, gift ideas from Venice, and the best thing about the items below is that they carry well as most are dry, making them the best gifts to bring back from Italy, whether for yourself or loved ones.

By the way, if there was a way to bring back Italian gelato, that would also be on the list of souvenirs to bring back from Italy below.

The Best Italian Souvenirs - Top Souvenirs To Bring Home From Italy - Tips on what to buy in Venice Italy, florence italy souvenirs gifts, what to buy in italy souvenirs in leather, Murano glass, cheese meats and more. #italian #europe #gifts #traveltips

Murano Glass

Situated off the Venice lido, Murano is an island that has been an authority in European glassware for hundreds of years. The glassware you’ll find at Murano is unlike any I’ve ever seen and one of the best souvenirs from Venice, Italy.

The artisans in the city have had their craft evolve from years of influences from Asian, Greek, and Roman cultures, and they have perfected the craft of making stunning, unique, and mind-blowing glassware.

Glass beads from Venice was once upon a time used as currency. Today, if you are wearing a necklace, made from Murano glass, it is said that you are wearing jewellery of a thousand years because of the experience and years that had have gone into producing the works.

Another item to add to your list of items to bring back from Venice are masks. Shopping in Venice, Italy on sunday is one of the best times are most shops are quieter and fewer tourist crowds.

So, where to buy masks in Venice Italy? There are plenty of shops but check out the back streets with wide ranges as well as better quality and not just cheap tourist tat. Venetian mask shops in venice are plenty especially closer to the time of carnival.

Accessories and jewelry

Italy is an authority in the world of fashion, and home to world renown designers like Gucci, Armani, Versace Fendi, and Diesel. A walk through the streets of Rome would make anyone feel like they’re in a fashion fairytale, and window shopping is a therapy I’d recommend.

Accessories and jewelries are sold all over Italy – from Rome to Milan, Venice and Florence. We had fan checking out jewellery shops Venice and came back with a few unique gifts from Venice. Pick up one, a couple, or a dozen, so you can have keepsakes of your time in one of world’s fashion capitals.

Florence Leather

Looking for best gifts from Florence, Italy? A neighborhood in the city of Florence known as Santa Croce which I wrote about, has been a hub of leather production since as far back as the 13th Century. This place produces as much as 35% of Italy’s leather. Looking for items to buy in italy that will last you a long time? The leather here is as authentic and durable as they come, and I’d recommend 100%.

A trip to Santa Croce will bring you face to face with the biggest names and brands in Italian leather, and once you see the “Italian-quality” sign, rest assured that you’re buying organically treated and processed leather that was made in accordance with the nation’s laws.

If you’re looking for a souvenir to take home with you, then leather from Florence should be at the top of your list. We managed to leave here with a couple of belts and a handbag or two.

Spices and Herbs

Italy is famed for being the home of some of the best food in the world, ranging from pasta to pizza. The food in and around Italy is tasty because of the care, love, and ingredients that go into making them. If I could, I’d take a chef from Italy home with me, but the spices and herbs used in the preparation of these foods are the next best thing.

If you visit Southern Italy, herbs like mint (known as menta) and oregano (oregano) are popular and can be found in surplus. You’d be getting it straight from the source so it would be fresher and tastier than the ones sold in bottles and cans back at home.

Formaggio

One of the must-have souvenirs from italy. That’s what the Italians call cheese and I think this is one of the best souvenirs to take home with you from Italy. As with cheese from anywhere else, there are a ton of options to choose from, and what I particularly like about Italian cheese is that they are locally produced and handmade, unlike the mass made machine/factory cheese found in most developed countries.

Amazing Italian cheeses include Provolone, which originated from Basilicata, Taleggio (from Lombardy), Parmigiano-Reggiano(Parma) and Pecorino Toscano (from Tuscany).

Vietri sul Mare Ceramics

Another set of great items I think you can and should take home with you from Italy are ceramics. Vetri sul Mare is one of the biggest and best ceramic producers in the Amalfi Coasts.

All the ceramics are handmade, and the patterns and designs that adorn them reflect the Mediterranean culture – from the landscape to the food. You can get a vase, a bowl, a plate, or any other item as a keepsake of your time in Italy.

Italian Meat

Another idea for gifts to bring home from Italy is cured meats. If you’re a meat lover then I suggest leaving Italy lots of specialty meat, because it’s hard to find them like that anywhere else. It’s almost like each region has her own specially crafted signature meat that has been made perfectly to satisfy your cravings.

In Friuli Venezia Giulia, you’ll find prosciutto San Daniele; for souvenir ideas from Milan, you’ll find bresaola and salame; and in Calabria, you’ll very hot sausages made with chili.

Dried porcini mushrooms

Lazio and Umbria are some regions in Italy famous for the dried porcini mushroom in many shapes. The mushrooms are very tasty and add a very special twist to your meals, so in my opinion, they’re not only the best souvenirs to take home with you from Italy but among unique souvenirs from Italy.

Artisan chocolate and Biscuits

Italy is also renowned for its sweets, baked goods, and other confectionaries. Chocolate is one of the best sweet exports, and it’s a great souvenir.

Italian artisan chocolates and biscuits come in a variety of flavors, shapes, styles, and types, so there’s something for everyone. You should especially try Turin’s biggest chocolate brands like Caffarel, Perugina, and Venchi.

Pasta

While we do think of pasta as culturally Italian food, it is likely the descendant of ancient Asian noodles. While they may not be the creators of pasta they have certainly taken the idea and run away with it, creating some of the best and most unique versions of it.

Many of the regions in Italy have their very own unique pasta they are well known for. From Pappardelle to Farfalle, Campanelle, Bucatini, Acini di pepe, Gnocchi, Totellini and many many more. In fact their hundreds of variations of pasta. So where ever you are visiting in Italy, bring back some pasta.

Sun-dried tomatoes

Sun-dried tomatoes are very popular in Southern Italy, and many Italian recipes are incomplete without them. The process of making them is exciting but can be tiring, so if you want to buy them ready made, you can get them at the Mercato Centrale in Florence.

So, have you been to or heading to Italy? Which one of the above do you think are the best souvenirs to buy Italy?

Autumn In Dusseldorf’s Konigsalle | The Best Food, Coffee, and Shopping Are All in This One Neighbourhood

October 22, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

Dusseldorf's Konigsalle

Dusseldorf Konigsalle is such a beautiful sight. Fall is one of my favourite seasons for many reasons. I love that the weather is mild and the beautiful colours on the trees, to the falling leaves that fall off the trees like snowflakes from the sky.

I love it all and its the only time my hair behaves itself when I straighten it compared to the joys of Summer humidity. That is one of few reasons that drew me to Dusseldorf’s luxurious shopping Avenue that is Konigsalle. Its the dazzling colours of Autumn on this beautiful boulevard and the reflections across the canals and bridges. It extends from Hofgarten Park canal nearby.

Konigsalle is divided by the Stradtgraden canal and lined with beautiful trees with cute bridges that connect the two sides of the canal. Of course, it’s not just the beauty that draws’ people to visits Konigsalle. The main attraction here is, of course, the shopping!

Retail Therapy Dream City

Konigsalle is Dusseldorf(possibly German’s) most luxurious street. The boulevard is lined with some of the world’s most luxurious brands. The likes of Hermes, Luis Vuitton, Gucci and many famous boutiques are all here in one place. We rented a car while exploring Dusseldorf of the weekend visit but you don’t necessarily need to have a car as the transportation in Dusseldorf is great.

We had rented our car straight from the airport and as it was easier to attend the wedding we were heading to that weekend. The day after the wedding we had more time to explore the city. There is car park right next to Konigsalle so we left the car there and walked around the boulevard and into downtown and harbour area by the river.  You also have downtown or old town of Dusseldorf nearby so we explored that and the many pubs nearby as they were getting into the festive season.

My visit was during November last year so just around this time of the year. If you have not been to Dusseldorf, I highly recommend the city. Its perfect for a city break when you just want to chill and enjoy a little time away with the fuss. There is plenty to do without feeling as if you are part of the hustle and bustle.

I love exploring new parts of the city each time I visit and Konigsalle was one that I missed out on during my last trip to Dusseldorf. Flights to Dusseldorf are so inexpensive from London. I believe two returns on this trip cost us a little over a £100. That’s a bargain in my books. You can read more on my trips to Dusseldorf on the blog.

Dusseldorf's Konigsalle Shopping
Dusseldorf's Konigsalle

In addition to shopping, there is plenty to see in Dusseldorf, more on this check out my posts on why you need to visit need to visit Dusseldorf. I mentioned above that Konigsalle canal are an extension of Hofgarten Park, well if you have time to spare this is another part of the city to include in your explorations of the surrounding area. Hofgarten is German’s first and oldest public park.

The park is adorned with historic monuments and sculptures. It’s just beautifully peaceful and serene places in the city and the perfect place to experience all that is glorious about Autumn with a relaxing walk in the park as you watch the season change colours right before you.

Where To Stay In Dusseldorf

Dusseldorf's Konigsalle - hotels

As far as staying near the luxurious shopping Avenue. There a few hotels that sit on either side of the shopping avenue both luxury and some mid and budget range. Breidenbacher Hof– A Capella Hotel is just pure luxury in every way possible from the beautiful staircase at the entrance to the beautifully decorated rooms and the beauty of this places is that it is literally a stone’s through from Konigsalle’s boutique stores.

The prices are just as luxurious but if you go to the other end of the canal you will have Leonardo Royal Hotel Dusseldorf which also offers clean comfort minus the luxurious price tag. On this trip, I opted to stay at Renaissance Hotel as it was closer to the wedding venue we were heading to for my friend’s wedding.

On my previous weekend visit to Dusseldorf, I had stayed at the Marriot Courtyard that is right by the harbour and near the Frank Gehry buildings. To compare prices for hotels in Dusseldorf. I usually book my hotels via booking.com but you can also compare prices with Trivago and Agoda too. You can also check out this review on Melia Seestern Hotel in Dusseldorf.

Valentine’s Day Surprises

February 13, 2016 by admin 2 Comments

I love a  good surprise as much as the next person so when I heard the door bell ring and the post man handed me a package, I was struggling to remember if I had ordered something online. I certainly wasn’t expecting any delivery. To my surprise the people at the Co-Operative Food had sent over a little Valentines Day breakfast package by way of their ‘Love at First Light’ gift box, which included that aromatic coffee, chocolate teddy, croissants and a few other sweets that never made it to the shoot below. Well let’s just say none of these will make it to Valentines Day as they have been happily consumed between me and the boyfriend. Now, I have to come up with something else to do for Valentines Breakfast as I woofed that down almost as quickly as I opened it….there is still plenty more of that aromatic coffee for the gift box so I suppose we will be okay…

10 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Travellers & Food Lovers

February 1, 2016 by admin 4 Comments

10 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Travellers & Food Lovers | valentines gifts for men | Valentines day boxes | valentines messages for her

Whether you are looking to impress with valentines messages for her or looking for valentine’s gifts for men or after valentines box idea this should serve as some inspiration for picking the best Valentine’s Day gift for your partner. Yes, Valentines is upon us once again (well in 13 days time for those that need a reminder) and as commercial, as it is I am not a believer on handing each other empty gifts for the sake of Valentine’s day. Although I will gladly accept those 5-carat diamond studs if they were coming in my direction in perfectly wrapped up Valentines day boxes. For me valentines days is simply a day to appreciate your partner’s company and if under a romantic setting then all the better. So, I thought what better way than to inspire you with 10 Valentines gift for lovers of food and travel. This post is not just for the men to take their ladies out to these places. I am an equal opportunity kinda girl so that means its also open for you ladies to treat your men to a getaway much like these below.

They have been tried and tasted(delicious!) by myself and my boyfriend so rest your heart in that you will have a great time. There is something for everyone in there too. For those that prefer time alone, those up for a little adventure while spending time alone with your partner. Did I also mention they involve a little bit of travel? Hence why I am posting this early so you get a head start in coordinating them travel-wise, if you are in Europe these are a piece of cake to get to also perfect if you are already in or near that city. Also for those across the Atlantic, Icelandic air and WoW air are offering some amazing discount that you can be in Europe for under $200. See below for 10 Valentines Day Gift Ideas for Travels and Food Lovers.

1. Spitbank Fort [Portsmouth UK] – Ever dreamed of staying on an Island, without forking out a price with far too many zeros on the price tag? We all have, well now you can. Spitbank Fort is a man made island on the Solent in Hamphire, that used to be a Fort used in the World War II. There are 3 of these on the Solent. One is privately owned and 2 have now been renovated into Luxury hotels. You get there buy boat from Gosport in Portsmouth, not before you sip wine in the departure lounge. This is truly an experience you and your partner would remember. They also offer day experience on the fort or you can have dinner and a stay overnight. Just imagine waking up to those views. More pictures on this experience can be found here on my post on Spitbank Fort here.

2. The Dylan High Wine  [Amsterdam, Netherlands] – This one is a take on the afternoon tea but for grown ups. Four mouth-watering-gran-slapping courses that will make you want to dump your boyfriend and run off into the sunset with the chef type of taste all paired with carefully selected wines. Our table was right by the fireplace so with all that wine going to my head I thought about the chef as I enjoyed an evening with my boyfriend in the beautiful ambiance of the setting. This is one of those experience that you will have to try whether in Amsterdam for Valentines Day or any other weekend escape with your partner. While you are at it the hotel itself has individually decorated rooms most of which are mini suites that will make you want to extend the Valentines Day into a permanent stay. More pictures and details of this can be found on my post on the High Wine Experience at the Dylan. You can book The Dylan here.
High Wine At The Dylan
3. Romantic Cruise on The Thames [London, UK] – Imagine cruising on the London Thames with wine in hand, jazz music playing and your lover across the table. What could be better than that? And they say Paris is the most romantic cities! I tell you London has many little gems like this that can put Paris to shame. When you are done with the tantalizing course on the boat take your partner for a walk along the twinkling lights on Thames. Yep, you can send me a thank you note in the morning. More pictures of the experience on my post on the Bateaux  Dinner Cruise here. They run these cruises at different times in the day too. You can book a table for lunch or dinner on the Thames Cruise here.
Dinner Cruise On The Thames.
4. Weekend In Paris Trip [Paris, France] – Yes, this is a bit of a cliche but one that many a girl dream of. It also need not cost a lot of money to get that romantic view of the Eiffel tower as it twinkles in the night. Think DIY on this one. Rent an apartment on Airbnb for inspiration on some of my Parisian stays. Check out my Paris apartment rental with a beautiful balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower. I also have one on Champs Elysees overlooking Arc and Eiffel Tower.  Most of these apartments have amazing views with half the fraction you will pay at a hotel. Another plus is that most host will let you stay a little bit longer while avoiding that late check out fees at hotels. Then it’s up to you to find the best wine and cheese board as you whisper sweet nothings in your lover’s ear. Extra points if you can do it in French. You can also book apartments in Paris via booking.com as well as hotels.

5. Luxury Dining With A View [London, UK] – On top of the world with your partner. Well, not exactly on top of the world but definitely on top of London. Sipping champagne with views of London in your own corner of the Shard is one way to spoil your partner but you have to be quick to get a table as this place as dates sell out fast! The Shard has many restaurants to choose from so you will have plenty of choices to spoil a loved one with fine dining and London views to boot. Even better is staying in and waking up to these views. This is of course by way of staying at the Shangri-la at the Shard. Luxurious rooms with river and city views and perfect service. Bonus points if you treat your loved one to breakfast in bed or in room service as you watch the city life below.

6. Witchery By The Castle Edinburgh [Edinburgh, Scotsland] – Scotland might have cold weather but it’s just right for getting cosy with your lover. Throw in some wine and great food in a great setting then you are well in for an interesting evening. The Witchery is a little hidden Gem in Edinburgh and hidden under the nose of Edinburgh castle. You simply must experience the food here. While you are in the city be sure to spit on the monolithian  heart, more details and top 10 things to do in Edinburgh.

7. A Weekend In Rome [Rome, Italy] – Historical buildings, hidden cobbled streets with faint whispers of that Italian music is enough to make anyone for in love this Rome. Even better if you have great company to share the experience. Although many a place in Rome do not disappoint when it comes to food. I always find that restaurants hidden behind the backstreets and way from the popular and overpriced grab near tourist sights tend to offer much better food, so stroll around those little streets and find your own little gem for you and your partner to cherish. Ours was hidden behind the Jewish Quarter or what they called the Jewish Ghettos. You can catch my Roman Holiday Visual Diary here. Check out Easyjet Holidays for quick Italian getaways without blowing the bank account.
8. Head Into The Spanish Sun in Ardales [Malaga, Spain – Andalucia] – A lot people visiting this part of Spain are mainly Spaniards. So for you that means beautiful surrounding without feeling like you are in a tourist trap for Valentines Day. Beautiful pristine surrounds and water so blue its hard to believe your eyes. The setting itself is romantic so you needn’t do much but bring some food for a picnic by the shoreline. Failing that you can also just opt to have some food in the restaurants nearby. There are also other beautiful towns that you could easily explore in this part of Andalucia for a lot longer than just Valentines day. There is plenty to do for those that love a little adventure to go with valentine’s day celebrations.
Great Orme Lighthouse Hotel - great orme llandudno
9. Wales Great Orme Light House [Llandudno, Wales, UK] – Wanna promise the moon and the stars to your lover? Well, settings don’t get any better than this one. We discovered this place on a last-minute bid to get out of London. Located right on the edge of Wales, quite literary. This place has very little light pollution so you will have stars twinkling above you and your lover like God was setting them up to entertain you and yours alone. I have heard many a proposals were made here so good luck! A few pictures from our stop in Llandundno in Wales, where you can find The Great Orme.

10. Frame your Travels[Agra, India, – Optional Destination] – As a lover of Travel and photography, I have often printed some the pictures from our travels for my boyfriend. When I do I hang them up in our hallway and just say that your gift is in and around the flat I love the look on his face when he finally discovers it. This one also doesn’t cost a lot of money and usually conjures up memories of the travel experience that was captured in the pictures. If you love photographay but want to improve then you can also get yourself or your partner on a photography course. Also, a real winner when thinking of gifts for friends and family during other holiday celebrations.

December 16, 2015 by admin 10 Comments

Christmas greetings! It has that time of year where we start thinking about what we buy for our loved ones. A couple of days ago I shared my itinerary for my travels around Asia this December. As I am traveling around the Christmas period it got me thinking about some of the gifts that would make life easier for a traveler like myself and perhaps you too. Christmas greetings to loved ones don’t get better than a well thought out gift.  I have tried so hard to bring this down to just 10 gift ideas the traveler. Otherwise this post would never have appeared with my ever growing million and one things I would like to add. So here goes:

Travellers Gift Guide: 1 – 3

I have been wanting a drone with camera for a while now but was debating whether to buy it and just before blowing a ton on pending travels. Imagine those awesome aerial shots you could take of Macchu Picchu, Angkor Wat Temples or Mayan Ruins with the DJI Phantom 2 Drone(Compatible with GoPro). When you think of those taking such pictures having such a gadget almost starts to look as essential as having a passport. Long haul travel conjures up ideas of having to find worthy entertainment. Whether this by way of music or movies on your iPad then you need a good pair of headphones. I love Bang and Olufsen products and also love the with the BEOPlay H6 you can plug a second pair of headphones so two people can listen to the same music or movie without too much hustle.
My third item on the Christmas gift guide for the traveler is the Go Pro. Show me a traveller that doesn’t have a Go Pro of these days (*raises a hand up)? Up until recently that is, I didn’t have one myself but have been dying to get one. Thank goodness my boyfriend came to the rescue bought me one just before we took to Asia. Here’s to some underwater shoots! So if you want to send special Christmas greetings by way of cool travel themed Christmas gifts then read on.

Travellers Gift Guide: 4

With number four I totally realise this is one expensive carry one for most budgets but as we are talking Christmas gifts bear in mind that you are allowed to dream as big as you want at this time of year. Hopefully the Santa working in your post code can allocate enough of a budget for your lofty dreams. You don’t ask, you don’t get. I just love the Ebby Rane Quartermaster. You don’t have to buy all the little bags to separate your items as it comes with it. Making travelling with a carry-on alone that much easier.

Travellers Gift Guide: 5 – 6

As a traveler, I am sure you travel with a million gadgets. Mobile phone, iPad, Cameras, laptop and whatever else you can carry without before breaking your back. One less thing to worry about is your mobile phone battery dying out when carrying the Portable Power Bank, which allows you to charge a few gadgets at once. I love that it also doesn’t break the bank either. The Osprey wheeled backpack bag is another favourite not he list if you love traveling with a carry-on. A bonus is that it’s also a backpack as well as hold-all you can drag around when your back just can’t take any more.

Travellers Gift Guide: 7-8

With the million and one gadgets, we all seem to carry these days and the cables they all come with, who would want a little bag to help you organise it all? Yep, I could really use the ButterFox Accessory Organiser in my life, right about now. I have added number 8, although I am in a love-hate relationship with the MyPassport hard drive. I recently broke my new MyPassport hard drive after it drops 3 times I might add. It stopped working shortly after saving my newly edited pictures from India, Greece, and Rome. I took it to Currys Digital who I paid £360 at the end of October to transfer my files to another one but it seems to pay close to £400 doesn’t exactly buy you quick service either. I am now traveling in December and have yet to receive the hard drive. Other than this glitch I have always loved MyPassport Hard Drive so perhaps it could be that they have changed parts and are now using cheap parts on the inside? Either way as a traveler you take a million and one pictures and having a back up of all your pictures is ALWAYS a good idea.

Travellers Gift Guide: 9

I think number 9 speaks for itself. I love multi purpose items and if they have an easy way to carry them, then even better. Who wouldn’t want this Loki jacket?

Travellers Gift Guide: 10 – Wearable Luggage!

With airlines going out of their way to charge for any and everything these. Excess luggage fees are one of those annoying things about travel. You want to pack as much as you can but know you cannot unless you want to pay a ridiculous amount on added fees. This is where wearable luggage comes in.  The Bagket jacket isn’t too bad. Now if someone can find me an even stylish even then I will “love you long time”. Pack as much as you can in this jacket and past while sending Christmas greetings to all the airline staff without them know you have 2-carry-ons worth of luggage stuffed in your jacket and carry-on.

So which one of these gifts will be included in your Christmas greetings to loved ones this season. What’s on your wish list this Christmas?

Christmas Shopping With A Royal Twist

December 14, 2014 by admin 14 Comments

Do you know the where you can sample and buy the Queen’s favourite chocolate? Who supplied the drinks on the Titanic? Or where London’s oldest cheese shop is? Well neither did I until last weekend. Living in London you can sometimes take its history for granted as its always on your doorstep, so there is never any rush to really immerse yourself in it. Well a weekend ago Best LDN Walks got together a few bloggers for a reinvention of Christmas Shopping in the heart of the Westend. This was not like any Christmas Shopping experience. We were going to be sampling fine wines and liqueurs, cheese, visit one of the oldest hat shops in London all the while also learning about London’s royal history. We browsed through shops where the royal family have some of the riding boats made, where some of their fragrances and groceries are made and bought.

As Currys was coming along for the walk around London we were kitted out with wearable technology by way of fitness trackers! I opted for a black Jawbone. It tracks your activity, calories burned, diet and sleep patterns. Who knew Christmas shopping could be good for your health?! It sure its great for my bank balance so it was great to know that I was getting  burning some calories as I shopped and explored. Having sampled fine chocolates, fine wine learned more than I wanted to know about King George( he gave himself a heart attack on the toilet bowl – need I say more?) You may have seen me Tweet a shot of my Jawbone results.  Having walking around London for about 2 hours I managed to do 8000 steps and burn over a 1000 calories too. I also learned where half the guests on the Titanic had the clothes tailor-made, some of these stores  are still operating today and not too far from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street. Another amazing store we stopped by is the one that supplied all the alcohol on the Titanic. We sampled some beautiful gin made especially for passed Kings and Queens. I don’t want to give too much away, you will have to go on the Best LDN Walks on your own to learn more about London’s fascinating history as well as taste some of the fine foods that the royal family indulge in.

Some of the shots from the walk below.

Harrods Christmas Festivities + Tips On Hotels Near Harrods

Every Christmas tourists(even locals) flock to the main department stores in London to see the beautiful Christmas displays. If you are staying at a hotel near Harrods  then you are in with luck for the festive season. Harrods is among the popular department stores that always has captivating displays based on various themes very Christmas. All the windows are covered up just before showdown and the unveiling is treated much like an event of the season, that must not be missed!

Adults and kids alike gather around the store to take in the festivities as the curtains are dropped to reveal the year’s display story. Usually, I avoid such places like the plaque(I cant deal with large crowds), but as I in the area I thought I would check out what this year’s creativity brought to Harrods’ Christmas window displays.

This years theme transports you to The Land of Make Believe with beautiful creations of oversized vintage toys from some of the best designers around the world. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me post Stella McCartney’s beauty princess in a shimmering dress. Harrods never do things in halves and this year is no different as their displays are via a contribution from 11 of some of the world best luxury designer brands.

Each one exuding luxe and opulence. There is a lovely pirouetting ballerina by Zuhair Murad, an oversized teddy, mini stuart mice surrounded by luxury handbags and accessories. The elaborate theme around these unique displays continues throughout the store. Below you will also spot a few from the Burberry store in Knightsbridge, which, not as sparkly and glitzy are just as lovely and enticing.

If I get the chance I may show you more of the Christmas festive windows from Selfridges or Harvey Nicols who also do amazing creations that people especially visit the department stores for.
