Afternoon Tea In Liverpool’s West Tower

August 10, 2018 by admin 2 Comments

Afternoon Tea In Liverpool #itsallbee #traveltips #uk #beatles #tea #instagram #food #foodie #pretty #views

West Tower Liverpool, afternoon tea

Afternoon tea has been a popular British tradition since the early nineteenth century. My love for afternoon teas may come as no surprise on the blog as I have indulged in unique afternoon teas on a route master in London, blogger afternoon teas at Lancaster Hotel to Newcastle afternoon tea on the Six. So when friends booked a weekend in Liverpool, of course, a girls afternoon tea in Liverpool was going to be on the cards in the city that gave birth to the mother of all boy bands. Of course, I am talking about The Beatles! If you are a fan of the Beatles then my next post is right up your alley as its all about London’s best Beatles tours, some of which include a day trip from London to Liverpool for the Beatles Tours.

Our weekend saw us reunite for a weekend in Liverpool starting with an afternoon tea before taking to explore a little bit of the city of foot.  This was actually the first time I had explored more of the city since I finished a project months before this weekend trip. I used to travel by train from London to Liverpool on Monday mornings and work in Port Sunlight before taking the local train into the city for a stay at one of my favourite Group hotels that is Marriot. Marriot Hotel Liverpool sits right in the heart of the city centre and a short walk from the train station as well as many of Liverpool’s city attractions.

Afternoon Tea In Liverpool

Magnificent views of Liverpool’s dazzling skyline at one of the city’s highest restaurants, this was where we had our afternoon tea experience, at Panorama 34, on the 34th floor of West Tower. Complete with amazing views of the River Mersey, the afternoon tea at Panorama 34  are presented in the form of three-tiered afternoon tea, served with handmade sandwiches, scones, macaroons, biscuits, cakes, a glass of sparkling wine and a choice of tea or coffee. Sipping on some bubbly of the finest of  English teas as if in slow motion the hustle and bustle of the city continue on below.  Panoramic 34 afternoon teas start from £20 to £31.50. If you are heading to Liverpool then experiencing the many unique afternoon tea in Liverpool are a must. From those at West Tower to those on boats cruising the canals.

Where To Stay In Liverpool

Many of my stays in Liverpool were at the Marriott Hotel but there are so many hotels in Liverpool on offer in the city covering a varied budget. If you are heading to Liverpool as a group I would highly recommend checking out some of the student halls that are usually available for rent during the holidays as this means you can have separate rooms but share living area and kitchen with your group. This was the option we went for during this trip. In much the same way I recommended some of the affordable stays in London in my post on how to visit London on a budget.

Australia | Best Brunch Spots in Melbourne

Melbourne's Best Breakfast and Brunch Spots

It would be an understatement to say that Australians love their coffee so we set our selves a task of finding the best coffee and best brunch in Melbourne. Also, keep in mind, that you see Starbucks on every corner of Melbourne. They take their coffee seriously here, which has morphed into an obsession with quality coffee. It may come as no surprise to anyone had has read my rants about Starbucks and their none-paying tax butts.

In addition to not paying taxes, I wouldn’t put quality and coffee together when it comes to Starbucks, which has also seen them open 84 stores in the city only to close 61 of them in the 8 years since opening. They could not rise to the challenge when compared to the cafes that pour out high-quality shots that Australians are accustomed to. The coffee culture in Australia is a lot more mature than I and a lot of people expect when visiting this far away land.

I love that Sydney and Melbourne boasts a lot of independently owned cafes that not only produce great cups of joe but the food matches deliciously. Why is that you might wonder? Apparently, the answer lies in the immigration of the Greeks and Italians that made the way to Australia in the early 20th century and with them came the food and coffee!!

I wasn’t going to visit Melbourne without checking out a few brunch spots. When my friend was working, I was roaming the alleyways checking out the coffee scene. It wasn’t until she a weekend when she took me to Dench which is hidden close to the residential area of Fitzroy. If you love a good brunch, food or a cool bar Brunswick is one place you need to check out in Melbourne.

If you have been to London’s Shoreditch then I would liken it to that. It’s cool, vibrant and draws in the artsy type and fashionably cool types. The is a lot of street art around the area but also has an up and coming type of vibe to it. The street is lined with cafes, that cater to the meat lovers as well as the veggie nibblers. I have never seen more vegan and vegetarian cafes in more area.

Brunswick might seem like a little out of the way from CBD but definitely worth it if you are a real foodie. Below are some of the tasty delights we wolfed down at Dench and for more food best tours in Melbourne, check out Viator Food Tours in the city. Below are 5 other spots to check out for a cool brunch in Melbourne, in addition to a link to BroadStreets other recommendations below.

Gelato Lab & Co | A Slice of Italy In Siem Reap Cambodia

Cambodia is a country that calls souls to witness the awe-inspiring Angkor Temples. With flocks of tourist heading to Siem Reap to see the temple ruins, the city is lively and constantly abuzz. Food is not so far behind city explorations and in such a tropical destination you can beat the heat is not so far behind. When the heat calls so does the thirst for something cool. Gelato Lab and Co is a little gem that we discovered when wandering the alleyways of Siem Reap’s Pub Street narrow and long alleys.

Gelato Lab Co offers authentic Italian gelato and sorbets all freshly made on site and with all natural ingredients too. Made the Italian way! Ice-creams are made with the finest Madagascan vanilla beans and made using the Cattabrigga Eff 6, said to introduce air to the gelato that distinguishes it from the standard ice-creams. The put in similar effect into their aromatic coffees. The ice-creams, sorbets and the coffee are all full of flavour and a testament to the pride and joy that goes into producing food in this cafe. Its a cool and laid back cafe with friendly staff.

Kuala Lumpur | A Culinary Tour Through Chinatown

April 25, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

Kuala Lumpur | A Culinary Tour Through Chinatown

Exploring a new city is not just about the tourist sites. Food is very much as the heart of cultural explorations. When it comes to Kuala Lumpur, its got it all! Kuala Lumpur is a city that never sleeps and at the heart of it, you have the lively and bustling neighbourhoods of KLCC, Bukit Bintang and Chinatown.

Having heard great things about China town it wasn’t long before we were hunting down Petaling Street, where Chinatown is based. Day or night this part of town is bustling with food stalls, shops calling out customers for nail and massage services. We were too famished for grooming sessions, so we skipped the nail and hair salons and got right down to business; the food!

Famous for its street food and the beauty of it is that majority of it is cooked right in front of you. It’s a paradise if you are a lover of seafood or exotic food in addition to the usual Chinese delicates that includes scorpions and other weird and wonderful creatures. As far as entertainment goes, there are folks that pass through and play music next to the dinners outside, there sellers walking around the tables selling selfie sticks, laser pens, and other nicknacks.

It’s well-known as a bargain hunter’s paradise where you can find everything from souvenirs, clothes, electronics to imitation goods. Make sure you up your haggling game as you will find brands like Adidas, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Nike, the list goes on!

Even if you are short on time in the city be sure you make time for Chinatown. The best part is that whatever time or day you come it’s always lively. For tips on first timers guide on Chinatown check out Melissa’s post.

Cafe Deli-Cieux – Paris Rooftop Cafe With Views

April 10, 2016 by admin 6 Comments

Cafe Deli-Cieux - Paris Rooftop Cafe With Views

Who would dare say no to a quick brunch with 360° of Paris? No one! On my last trip to Paris before heading out to Australia my boyfriend and I decided on a weekend visit to Paris before I disappeared off to Australia for two weeks.

Having skipped breakfast in the morning it wasn’t long before we needed a caffeine break from exploring Paris’ beautiful streets. What was to be a quick stop at Printemps turned out to be a long brunch as the views on Printemps Rooftop Terrace are just breathtaking. Right in the heart of Paris you can get a bite to eat, drink and have the best view in town and all 360° of it.

Cafe Deli-Cieux – Paris Rooftop Cafe With Views

From Printemps’  Le Deli-Cieux Rooftop Terrace Cafe you can see Montmartre, Eiffel Tower, Opera de Garnier. If you haven’t been to Au Printemps then it’s high time you added it to your list. It’s pretty big, taking up about 5 buildings with an endless list of designer levels set on 6 storeys of the building.

From Women’s Fashion to Men’s and everything you can possibly need for your house, cat and dog all housed in this beautiful spot in the city. With a rambling stomach and major pangs for coffee, shopping was far from my mind.

It was breezy and cold but with the sun out it offered just enough warmth to bear. With Parisian icons in almost every direction its a shame and a treat at the same time that not many tourists know about this place.

Next time you are in Paris, be sure to add a quick visit to Au Printemps for a quick tea or coffee with a view to match when you next visit Paris. The beauty of this place is that it offer a viewing platform of the city all without having to pay for it. Unless of course you are getting some food in the rooftop cafe. Either way its well worth the trip to the top.

Do Not Leave Andalusia Without Dining At El Mirador

February 24, 2016 by admin 13 Comments

We spend a couple of days exploring Ardales, a beautiful little town in Andalusia. Typical in its style of Spanish villages which come with character-filled white-washed buildings. If you haven’t been to this part of Spain I details 7 reasons why you need to visit this part of Andalusia in my post. A couple of days into our stay in Andalusia we also took on El Caminito del Rey in El Chorro but by the time we came back from the walk we were too tired to check out El Mirador and thought instead to come back the following day. The  setting for the El Mirador restaurant is what attracted  me that most before I had even looked at their menu.

Dining that comes with a spectacular view is always a plus in my view and adds to the memorable getaway. Imagine eating your paella with panoramic views of Ardales’s Guadalhorce reservoir and the beautiful countryside. As its sits besides the lake you can also walk off you lunch in perfect surrounding. There are many viewing points from the restaurant itself, with steps that lead to the bottom as well as viewing points a few meters from the Restaurant and the Guadalhorce dam.

The food was great and they have a selection of salad, seafood and meet dishes and prices are reasonable. Getting via the same as the directions I provided for El Caminito del Rey in El Chorro.

Hotel D’Angeleterre | A Taste of Copenhagen

June 5, 2015 by admin 10 Comments

The first day of our visit to Copenhagen, I had planned on doing one of those free walking tours to get our barrings of the city. We were meant to meet the group at the city hall but when we got there we couldn’t find them and after walking around a while it started to rain. By now I could feel myself getting slightly cranky as our flight in was at stupid o’clock. So when we stumbled on to Hotel D’Angeleterre it was basically to find some shelter and get some hot tea down my throat before the crankiness notched up another level.

We were walking towards Nyhavn, but due to the construction site of a metro we couldn’t see that we were literary in front of it before calling it quits and ducking into the hotel. I am certainly glad we did, as the food was nothing short of spectacular!  Copenhagen has only handful of Michelin Star restaurants and of those few only Marchal Restaurant at the luxurious Hotel Angeleterre has the prestigious star rating.

I could see why after tasting the food. It’s spearheaded by Chef Ronny Emborg whose mater creations offer a dramatic culinary experience that you won’t forget(I guess hence why there is now a blog post about it). I think it’s obvious now that my travels are not just about the sights but food experiences are also a huge part of my travel experience. You can check out my other memorable dinning experiences on The Solent’s Spitbank Fort or dining at Edinburgh’s Witchery By The Castle.

The food is a French-Nordic mix with unique flavours and exquisitely executed with such passion, from the chef, to the people that serve the food. Well  I think this is the one and only time one can be thankful of being a little cranky, as I would never have walked in and experienced Ronny Emborg’s mouth watering creations. You can check out a copy of Ronny Emborg’s cookbook with his signature dishes; The Wizard’s Cookbook, although I doubt, even with the recipes I would be able to recreate his anything near his ingenious marvels.

Starter: Pickled Asparagus, Smoked Mackerel in a Dill and Olive Sauce
Main: Pork Belly and Spring Onion Sauce
Dessert: Strawberry Ice-cream with Fresh Strawberries and Smoked Milk

The Best Brunch Spots In Amsterdam

There are plenty of amazing restaurants in Amsterdam. This is a city for food lovers among many things so we were keen to check out the best brunch places in Amsterdam. Below are some of our favourites.

Papeneiland

This little spot is set on two levels or 3 if you count the basement where the toilets are. This spot does an amazing apple pie. One of the best I have ever tasted in fact and the decor is also easy on the eye too,  with rich history to boot. You can see more pictures from my food tour post in Amsterdam

Juice and Salad

I love this place so much for its healthy menu. Perfect for watching Amsterdamers cycle past. On the food front, everything is amazing! Freshly made fruit and veg juice mixes. Larger than life salad portions and all super healthy and filling food, its had not to come back here. Pictures from my visit are below. On the plus side too is that they deliver!

The Screaming Beans

This place is across from Juice and Salad and was within easy reach as our hotel was only a few meters away. Only only great for brunching but wine and dinning too.

Blauwe Theehuis

Located in Vondelpark, the perfect spot for people watching while chilling surrounded by a little nature provided by park surroundings. You can see more pictures from the post my visit to Blauwe Theehuis.

De Drie Graefjes

This cute little place is hidden in the backstreets of Dam Square. A small cafe with a cozy feel to it comes with an irresistible array of cakes to accompany the tea selection. See more pictures from my stop over on my Sunday Brunch In Amsterdampost.

Bakers and Rosters

This place is new on the cafe scene but a goodie to add to cafe-hopping when in Amsterdam. I love the vibe of the place. With outdoor seating and good food, what more can one ask for?

Vondelpark Amsterdam | Brunching in Vondelpark

February 23, 2015 by admin 23 Comments

I don’t know what it is about Amsterdam, but people seem more laid back, at ease and just so damn happy – in a rather understated way. I guess it must be a lifestyle. This may have been just me but it also seem very family oriented in all that they do. From seeing little family units biking around the city for leisure or on their way to work or school drop to family walks,  family gatherings in cafes and for the sake of enjoying each others company. As vital as visiting the canals or the many museums in the city, a stop to Vondel Park is another must. We couldn’t help but stroll through Vondel Park.

When in the capital, do as locals do! Rent a bike to explore the expansive land or just take a stroll around . Especially in good weather, this is a great place to meet friends for a picnic or just some alone time and just chill with a book. It also helps that there are  a few cafes dotted around so that you can take your time to have mini breaks in between exploring. That’s exactly what we did! Below are some of the shots from explorations and many tea-drinking sessions in the park.

Note that you can also rent bikes from within the park. The rentals are close to the entrances.
