Sydney Botanical Gardens + Views From Mrs Macquarie's Chair

I posted my top 10 things to do in Sydney which included a stop at the Royal Botanical Gardens. This is one spot that is a must, and no you don’t have to be a lover of plants to visit. It starts off from the bottom steps of Sydney Opera House and circles Farm Cove.

The gardens also feature Australia’s first and oldest bridge, which is a cute little bridge crossing a stream in the gardens.  You also have amazing plants that are about as old as dinosaurs. Walking along the shape of the cove you will have amazing views looking into Sydney CBD and its skyscrapers.

A walk through the gardens leads you to a vantage point offering stunning views of Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge from Mrs Macquaries Chair.

Mrs Macquaries was the wife of the New South Wales governor, she was apparently known for sitting on a rock and watching the ships from Great Britain sail into the harbour. Mrs Macquarie’s Chair is an exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench. From here you have amazing views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The perfect spot to grab a picture. If you are traveling solo like I didn’t get one of the many tourists circling the spot to take a picture of your if you are not the selfie type.

While exploring Sydney’s many tourist sights might take up most of your days in the city you will also need to consider where to stay in Sydney. You can read about my apartment rental in Sydney here. For hotels, apartments and hostels in Sydney, check out Booking.com, Agoda or Expedia.
